American Idol -the Girls

Now, I know you tough guys are all going to swear you don't watch, but I"ll bet at least a couple of you watch (either that or this will be an EPIC fail! LOL). Like I used to do at that other place, I DVR it, watch the performance, give my opinions and then watch the judges.

    1. Page Miles: All Right Now (Free) Has great stage presence but not the song I would have chosen for her. Good but didn't blow me away. (Simon loved her voice but didn't like the song either)

    2. Ashley Rodriguez: Happy (Leona Lewis)? Stunning girl. Ballads not always the best choice to start with, but... Again, it was okay, but didn't knock me over. (Judges agree that song choice was wrong)

    3. Janell Wheeler: What About Love? (Heart) Ouch, started out good but started to get "pitchy" and missed a few notes and beats. She has a very good voice, but again, I think the song choice was poor. (Judges all agreed)

    4. Lilly Scott: Fixing a Hole (The Beatles) Not digging the hair. Well, judges have been asking for originality - and this is different. I don't care for her voice nearly as much as the others, but she did step out of the box. Interested to see how it goes for her. (Judges loved it)

    5. Katelyn Epperly: Oh Darling (The Beatles) Another gorgeous girl. I like this one a lot. Good presence and great voice. Not a typically commercial song. Good job. (Soft criticism, but judges like it very much)

    6. Haeley Vaughn: I Want To Hold Your Hand (The Beatles) Interesting choice, but she did switch it up and she does have a strong voice. Okay, but not one of the better ones so far. Perhaps it's her youth? (A complete and utter mess from Simon)

    7. Lacey Brown: Landslide (Fleetwood Mac) Kind of going for the Pat Benetar look? Early pitch problems and has a helium sort of delivery. Not caring for this much at all. Not horrible, but close. (Hated it)

    8. Michelle Delamore: Fallen (Alicia Keyes) Another beautiful girl. Great job on the song, but didn't show much originality. Expect a possible Kareoke (sp) comment, but I thought she did a great job and has an excellent voice. (Judges tended to agree)

    9. Didi Benami: The Way I Am (Ingrid Michaelson)? Very "girl next door". Don't like the song (never heard it before). Her voice is okay but I expect an "indulgent" comment from Simon (if not, I'll say it). Didn't really do a thing for me. (HA! There is was, "indulgent". :D )

    10. Siobhan Magnus: Wicked Game (Chris Isaacs) I love the tone of her voice, but I like her last Hollywood performance better (Stevie Wonder). It wasn't bad, but kinda dull. (Mixed results but I think they agreed - at least about the Steveie Wonder song)

    11. Chrystal Bowersox: Hand in My Pocket (Alannis Morrisette) She's very different from the rest, but she has a great voice. I hope at some point she gets to do Janis - I think she'd rock it. I enjoyed it very much. Especially since I don't like Alannis. lol (I thought Simon was a little harsh, but the rest I couldn't agree more)

    12. Katie Stevens: Feelin Good (Michael Bouble?) Talk about your All American Girl! She's adorable. What an incredibly mature voice for such a young girl. She can straight up sing and has great charisma! I think she is definitely one to watch! (I totally disagree with the judges)

    Anyone care to comment?

Every girl sucked tonight... Worst I have heard in years for an opening top 24, but I do believe that nerves had a big role tonight... more than in past years for the females. If the guys come out tomorrow and set the show off, there may be no rebound for the girls... Sit down again this year.

Yeah, a few of the girls have very good voices, but in general ALL the performances were "forgettable". I really thought much more highly of this group in the opening rounds, but some always improve and by the end one of them could be worthy. I think early on people tend to play it safe and pick songs they know/like (as opposed to best suited to them) and end-up giving mediocre performances.

Simon's commentary, as always, was spot on.

I always figured as the show went on, all the undiscovered talent would have long since tried out. But I guess when 13 out of 12,000 get a ticket in a given city, that there are probably dozens of comparable talent rejected for every one they let through.

It always makes me laugh when they say each season is the most talented ever.

Ehhh, actually I don't think it's that disingenuous. Definitely thought it last year, and then thought possibly this year was even better.

What it boils down to is with 200,000+ trying out, they WILL find 24 good voices, so I'd say each year probably has the POTENTIAL to be the best ever. But as we saw tonight, when you actually have to perform on stage in front of a big audience and, maybe more critical, have to pick and make a song your own (as opposed to your hand-picked personal best) you get huge separation from those who can actually create and perform vs. those who just have a nice voice.

Nearly all the girls tonight have good to very good voices, and a few are excellent, but not one of them appeared to have any talent beyond that.

Crystal Bowersox is from my hometown. Kinda weird to see her on tv. She lived like two miles from parents. Never knew she could sing though...kind of a loner in school...

    Haeley Vaughn: gone
    Lacey Brown: gone
  • voewoody
I dont think Haeley is going anywhere. Lacey I agree with though Landslide was terrible.

As someone mentioned, all the girls were forgettable. Most of theml sung songs well, it was just nothing unique. There are thousands of people out there who could sing the same song just as well as they did, if not better. For example, I like the Edge Girl from Elliston, except for the fact there are girls like her singing that same song that same way, with the tattoo and dreds just like her in Coffee Houses and small clubs in every major city

I thought the worst two were Haeley Vaughn and Lacey Brown. Was it just me or did Vaughn sound like Peter Brady in the episode where his voice changed (I know, most of you are to young to remember that). Even though these two are the worst, it does not mean they will necessarily go. There is "Vote for the Worst" after all. I do think Lacey Brown is gone for sure.

Looking forward to seeing the guys, I like the ex-gang member guy with the tatts on his neck and the Jim Morrison/Robert Plant looking guy.

I think the Bowersox girl probably has the best chance of all of them. Her vocal range can do country, pop, and some older songs that are required as the competition goes on.

5, 10, and 11 for me last night.
  • gorocks99
Didi = Megan Joy from last season. I didn't care for any performance last night.
  • bigdaddy2003
Does anyone think that Thaddeus Young should have made it over some of the guys that made it?

Sorry it's not about the girls. I just didn't want to start a whole thread to ask the question.
  • thavoice
Some decent looking ladies this year. Doubt ill watch the dudes nite.....just when the ladies are on. Usually cannot stand the guys......to me guy songs should be rockin....maybe a power balad here in there...but too many are just cool enough if ya ask me.

Now the ladies...i can handle and enjo when the rock out...or slow it down.

Show is boring now. No wow factor from the judges....and the only potential for conflict among the judges is between Kara and Simon.

Very vanilla....can't see the guys being very different.

Simon is leaving at the right time.

10 and 11 were the best.
  • Nate
The rest of the show was quite dull. I agree with Lacey Brown being gone.

I think Haeley Vaughn could be good but she tries to smile way too much while she sings and it screws her up.
  • gut
I can't stand Kara. Every time she opens her mouth it's just painful to listen to. I think she's actually worse than Paula. Paula was bad, but Kara is just beyond annoying and irritating.
  • Nate
I DVR this so I just fast forward over Kara every time. Saves me from wanted to beat my TV.
  • thavoice
Kara is moderatly attractive so I watch her....but dont really listen.

    yeah..i live a sheltered life

Wow. No effing way. I could not stand Paula on the show and can actually sit and listen to the judges now.

To each his own I guess.

Kara is 100X worse than Paula. Every time she opens her mouth I just want to smack her to shut up.

LOL I dvr the show and fast foward Kara speaking(as I will the rest of the season). She is garbage, sits back in her seat and acts like her sh*t don't stink.
  • gut
    stwest30 wrote:acts like her sh*t don't stink.
Precisely....Simon can pull-off obnoxious and conceited, Kara fails miserably.

What's annoying is she acts like her opinion is so insightful and important. I could do the job of any of the "other" 3 judges. Mostly, when Simon speaks they will just expand on what he said or agree with him. It's only when they get to go first that you realize they really don't know what they are talking about because Simon is usually the only one to disagree with others who spoke before him.

My god, can you imagine what it must be like to work with Kara singing a new song she wrote? Hard to believe anyone would put up with that.
