No doubt he was going to. However I can't see Steve Williams getting into an on the course fight when Tiger returns to golf. The last thin g Tiger needs is more bad press. Will there be hecklers, absolutely! -
gibby08He wont stop them and there is no way he can protect Tiger without getting physical which will result in more bad press for Tiger and a big lawsuit.
-
sherm03What else can he do besides saying to someone, "Hey, knock it off."?
As long as the fan isn't yelling or talking during Tiger's stroke...I'm not quite sure how they'd be able to throw someone out or stop them from heckling Tiger at all.
I hope there's a lot of Happy Gilmore fans out there that will follow Tiger around and just yell "Jackass" before every one of his shots. -
krambmanMy guess is that for a while at least, most tournaments Tiger plays in will put extra security with him while he's on the course to find and throw out anyone who heckles him. He'll probably have to deal with it at least once a tournament for the first year or two after his return.
-
GoPensShouting "its in the hole" takes on a whole new meaning with Tiger...

Polar Bear 73"There are always going to be people who are going to knock you for being the number one player in the world and being as successful as Tiger has been".
Maybe Steve, the reason they knock him is for throwing clubs all around the course, and firing off the "f-word" every time he hits a bad shot. Or maybe it's because of his arrogant attitude, and a reputation for signing the fewest autographs of any of the big stars on tour.
I don't remember people knocking Arnie or Jack or the Shark when they were ranked number one. Of course I also never remember seeing any of them throw a club or curse out loud on the course. And I sure never remember any of them screwing around with porn stars and cocktail waitresses all over the world. Maybe it has nothing to do with being number one. Just something to think about Stevie. -
darbypitcher22Tiger will struggle, there's no doubt. and I'm with all of you, there's not much Steve will be able to do about it
-
SageI want to go to a PGA event just to heckle Tiger now. What the hell is a 58 year old dude going to do to me? Lol. Is he going to assault me? Try to intimidate me? Lmao.

I read that he is like 45 years old.........you must have been thinking about me, as I DO resemble Steve Williams a little bit.Sage wrote: What the hell is a 58 year old dude going to do to me? Lol. Is he going to assault me? Try to intimidate me? Lmao.
And I'm 57, sir!

ohiotiger33Lol I love when there are people out there (some of my friends) who always whined that Tiger didn't respect the game with is language, behavior, etc. on the course (for the record I don't condone that behavior), but now that this has happened, say that he should be heckled and yelled at on the course while he is playing. IMO that is much more damaging to the game of golf itself than a sex scandal ever could be. I don't care what a player has done off the course (Tiger or not), golf is not a sport where it is acceptable to disrupt a player at any time.
It is a gentleman's game, and those that heckle any players are pieces of shit.
My guess? The tour will have extra officials following Tiger's groups for a while that are ready to eject fans for stuff like this. I doubt Steve will have to do much. I love how people think the tour is stupid enough to just leave it as is. They have a team of people getting payed to figure stuff like this out, probably right now. -
wildcats20Exactly. The PGA won't let it happen. There will be hecklers and those people will be kicked out and probably receive a life time ban from PGA events.
-
tk421Not that I give a crap about Tiger, but I have to ask why would anyone yelling or heckling ruin the sport? Are golfers not good enough to play while someone else is making noise? I've never understood the need for quiet. The gentleman's game thing is crap.

ohiotiger33^^ You obviously have never played golf. Hitting a golf ball requires precision that is unprecedented in most sports. A 1 degree off center hit can make the ball go more than 30 yards off-line. These small changes in timing and squaring the club can be affected by even the slightest thing. Someone disturbing you even only slightly could make you hit an absolutely terrible shot.
I will put it this way. If I played against any pro, and you came along and were allowed to yell at him, but not me. I would win just about every time.
When your team is shooting free-throws, do you yell, or stay quiet? It isn't that golfers can't play while someone makes noise, it is a sharp noise changing the equilibrium of the moment that makes it almost impossible to play well. Constant noise would be no problem.
The amount of concentration and precision it takes to hit a golf shot is greater than it is to hit a jump shot or hit a baseball. Not to say those things aren't physically tougher, it just doesn't have the same small margin for error. A tiny fraction of a degree can be the difference between a great shot, and a poor one. -

That's bull crap. If someone can't hit a golf ball except when it's quiet, they aren't much of a professional.ohiotiger33 wrote: ^^ You obviously have never played golf. Every other golfer does that on the course. Even Jack and Arnie swore.Polar Bear 73 wrote: "There are always going to be people who are going to knock you for being the number one player in the world and being as successful as Tiger has been".

If its a gentleman's then let gentlemen play! Not spoiled brats who throws a hissy fit everytime a shot does not goes his way. As for not signing autographs for his fans, I think he forgot why sponsers pay him millions to endorse their product.ohiotiger33 wrote: Lol I love when there are people out there (some of my friends) who always whined that Tiger didn't respect the game with is language, behavior, etc. on the course (for the record I don't condone that behavior), but now that this has happened, say that he should be heckled and yelled at on the course while he is playing. ohiotiger33Didn't mention autographs.
But I did say that I don't condone what Tiger does on the course. I just believe that if this crap starts during tournaments, then it is low-class, and I don't care who the heckling is directed to.
Tiger Woods is NOT bigger than the game of golf. To heckle him and condone others doing it means that you believe he IS bigger than the game. Even he mentioned his poor respect for the game, and his desire to come back and correct it. Tiger is not the only one that does this during tournaments. But it is the most visible and is bad for the sport. Just like heckling him would be. This would signal to other idiots that it is ok to heckle golfers and could be the beginning of a bad trend in the sport. -
I Wear PantsEvery golfer swears and he doesn't throw his clubs. He slams them sometimes like everyone else (that one last year was a club slam that slipped from his hand). Seriously, got to a PGA tournament and there will be at least one dude having a horrible day and swearing up a storm
Last year at Firestone Anthony Kim was dropping F bombs left and right.
I don't think less of him for it. Sometimes you have bad days. "Blah blah blah, something about role models". Parents are supposed to be role models for kids, not some millionaire on a golf course. Adults aren't obligated to G-Rate their actions just because someone might bring their kid around. -
wildcats20Anyone see Sergio take out half of the desert yesterday after a bad shot?? It's not just Tiger, it's "everyone."

I agree with everthing but this. I agree they are under alot of pressure to perform and stay on the tour. That still should not be part of the game. It's not only Tiger and golf. I see this alot with all sports. They are pro's. IMO they should act like it.I Wear Pants wrote: Every golfer swears and he doesn't throw his clubs. hang_looseI know Tiger is not bigger than the game of golf but if you compare ratings of tournaments he was in last year to this year, people start to wonder. If you want respect, earn it!!! If you act like an ass in a pro tournament, then take the heckling too.
I'd like to know who wrote his speech. It didn't sound like he did.
Just a thought, What about a pro tournament where heckling was allowed? I'd love to see those scores. -

I wasn't saying dropping the F bomb or like words is good or shows tact. It's just that people act like Tiger is a bad person because he swears. If he's a bad person it's because he cheated on his wife not because he said words that every golfer says on the course.Darkon wrote:

I think that it's nice when athletes or any public person can be friendly or "G-Rate" as I said so that they can be a nice example of tactful excellence in x (insert sport/whatever). But I don't think someone is obligated to do that and I don't think they're necessarily any worse for it. -
benoleOh, Tiger is a Bad person all right, i hope he gets heckled mercilously. I hope Stevie gets his ass kicked right in the first cut of rough.

Did he do something to those people?benole wrote: Oh, Tiger is a Bad person all right, i hope he gets heckled mercilously. I hope Stevie gets his ass kicked right in the first cut of rough.
He is accountable to his wife, family, and immediate friends for his actions. Not you, me, or the dude yelling "get in the hole!"
