Movies I've seen recently:
Up in the Air - Really great movie. It's themes are really timely and there's a great juxtaposition between what George Clooney does to people for a living and what he experiences personally in the movie. I found it really, really clever and really engaging. The principle actors absolutely kill it, as well.
Up - Best movie in 2009. I won't get into why I think it's the best, I'll end up writing a 2,000 word review about it, but I'll just say this: I haven't seen a ton of movies in 2009, but if Up doesn't get nominated for Best Picture the whole selection process is ludicrous and the Academy is a joke.
Adventureland - Really, really funny and dealt with a lot of themes and situations that I am personally kind of going through right now. Was a very realistic representation of life.
I'm Not There - I don't know a ton about Bob Dylan, but it was a really interesting movie. Big ups to Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, and Ben Whishaw who nailed their interpretations of Dylan. Thumbs down to Richard Gere who gave a completely half assed effort.
Fantastic Mr. Fox - Very much a Wes Anderson movie. Good cast, cool soundtrack, good story, and pretty cool use of old school animation. Went to a cheap theater to see it, might not have been as pleased had I payed $9-$10.
Funny People - Really up and down and it seemed like two different movies. It had some good moments, but it wasn't very good in my opinion.
