Seen any good movies lately?

  • Benny The Jet
Anyone seen any good movies lately? Just got around to watching Inglorious Basterds and The Hurt Locker. Both were great, really liked The Hurt Locker. Also watched Away We Go, it was alright. Any other recommendations to watch of the holidays?

Public Enemies was pretty good. watching 500 days of summer with the gf tonight, heard that was pretty good.

I guess I am going to have to give Inglorious Basterds another try because I think I am one of the only people on here who didn't like it.

Just watched Brothers starring Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhall.

    Damn good movie.

    Inglourious Basterds was fantastic.

Care to elaborate for me on what made Basterds fantastic? I've read where all of these people think it was great but never explain what made it great.

    Four Christmas's wasn't bad

    Inglorious Basterds was good too

That would ruin it for you...if you liked other Q Tarrentino flicks you'd like it

Well I'm a huge Tarantino fan but I can't say I loved the movie. It failed to keep me interested and it definitely shouldn't have been titled Inglorious Basterds because they were only in the movie for about 30 minutes.

You apparently have never seen a QT movie before, since its all dialog-driven. Naturally, the "action" characters won't have long appearances in the movie.

At least you get to see the hot blonde French girl through most of it.

We watch a lot of "family" movies now that we have kids.

We watched "Aliens in the Attic" a few weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised...it was flat out hilarious at moments.

    Your standards must be falling.

It was a remake of an older movie too I thought which kinda explains some things.

Kids will do that to you. Here is a list of the last 5 movies I've watched direct from my Netflix account.

    1. Up
    2. Transformers II
    3. G.I. Joe
    4. Aliens in the Attic
    5. Monsters vs Aliens

My wife did bring home an illegally burnt copy of "The Hangover" a few weeks ago though. I had trouble staying up, since we couldn't watch until the kids were in bed...but that was probably the funniest movie I've ever seen. I felt guilty the next morning...like I cheated on my 3.5 year old.... :(

Yeah actually I have all of his flicks in my collection. I know his movies are dialog driven. The dialog just failed to keep me interested.

I heard Up was good. The rest are probably "meh".

I thought the dialogue in it was great. I'm not usually a big fan of movies with subtitles, but really enjoyed this one. Mix in the action scenes, and Pitt's character, that's why I really liked it. Plus, I enjoy war movies, even though this one isn't accurate (not supposed to be) but that time period and WWII movies I really like.

I actually enjoyed "Up" the least of the 5 I listed....but who am I kidding...I really kind of liked all of them.

Eh, I don't know. I guess to each their own. I just couldn't get into it. The subtitles were coming at me way too fast and like I said the dialogue was boring to me. Maybe I am just spoiled by Pulp Fiction.

Watched 'The Hangover' yesterday..GOAT. I'll admit it..watched 'New Moon' yesterday too. Enjoyed that one as well. GI Joe was ok. A movie NOT to watch in this or your next lifetime..Jennifer's Body..checked out that atrocious movie about a week ago. It left me speechless it was so terrible.

    (500) Days of Summer is the best movie of the year in my opinion.

If you want to go a bit old school I'd recommend checking out 1776 or Deathtrap.

    That's really all I got.

My last several weeks of Netflix plus a couple from the theaters (all Netflix movies were on Blu Ray)

Avatar 3d – Fricking sweet. Can’t wait to see again and buy day 1 on blu ray. Story a bit predictable, but left the nearly 3 hour moving wanting more.

New Moon – Meh, the wife loves the series, I go along and it’s just OK. One of the better ‘chick flick” type of movies to go to, IMO.

Angels & Demons – Love Tom Hanks, the movie was enjoyable, glad I didn’t buy it…A good rental.

Star Trek – I have no Star Trek history and loved the movie --- will buy when it’s a bit cheaper on BR. Rented it on a whim and loved it.

Up – Great movie, awesome animation work….Will add it to the collection later on…

Night at the Museum 2 – Fun movie, about what you’d expect, nothing great, worth a rental…

Hangover – Bought it on BR day one, also saw in theaters…One of my favorite movies of recent years. Hilarious.

Pelham 123 (the new one) – Anything with Denzel is usually a lock to be enjoyable. This was pretty good, kept me interested, glad I only rented it. Travolta wasn’t a good pick for the villain, in my opinion.

Land of the Lost – Disappointing. Worth a rental I guess, but definitely not a buy, IMO. Laughed only a couple times, and I’m a huge Farrell fan.

State of Play --- Great movie, good story/acting.

Year One --- I am one of the biggest Jack Black fans, but this movie was completely terrible…After seeing the trailer I was very hyped for the movie, but it’s probably one of the worst movies I’ve seen in awhile…

I’m going to see Sherlock Holmes on New Years Eve, going to see Brothers this weekend, and should have District 9 in the mail from Netflix tomorrow, wooh.
