I played these 5 songs a while back at a party, I was told to play Skrillex or I would get my ass kicked. I said fuck this and left

Honestly, it all sounds the same to me. -
AutomatikI enjoyed Skrillex's first album, it was free and different. I even like some of his tunes from Bangarang, but now he just sounds the same with recycled sounds. I'm over it. His latest single with Damien Marley is terrible.

Didn't he do an album with Korn?Automatik;1204616 wrote:I enjoyed Skrillex's first album, it was free and different. I even like some of his tunes from Bangarang, but now he just sounds the same with recycled sounds. I'm over it. His latest single with Damien Marley is terrible. -

I liked his first EP, everything else, not so much. The stuff he's making now is terrible. People were clamoring for me to his version of Promises, Scary Monsters, etc. I just said no. lol.Raw Dawgin' it;1204612 wrote:Explain yourself - lol

AutomatikI believe he produced a track for them. "Get Up"....I've yet to give it a listen.

Made a song called Narcissistic Cannibal with them, and Get up.Raw Dawgin' it;1204618 wrote:Didn't he do an album with Korn? -
AutomatikI can't stand that one sound he uses...its spreading everywhere. It's like a robot voice going yii yiiiii. I'm not sure how to explain it haha.
It's in that new SHM track "Greyhound." I want it to go away. -
Raw Dawgin' itYou guys who like dubstep - do you start rolling before listening? It seems like mind numbing music that just puts you in a trance. I just don't get the appeal.

I find myself listening to dubstep at the gym mostly, but you'll never find me mixing/djing dubstep. 140bpm doesn't do it for me.Raw Dawgin' it;1204627 wrote:You guys who like dubstep - do you start rolling before listening? It comes and goes regarding what I listen to. I have a very eclectic taste in music. -
End of LineOne thing I get a kick out of. Comparing Skrillex's set to someone Like Deadmau5 or Daft Punk.

Raw Dawgin' itCrosby - if he can do the same with less why not do it? It seems like he has it figured out over them. If i played a new song from skrillex and a new song from deadmou5, could you guys tell the difference if you've never heard it before?

AutomatikThere have been rumors that Skrillex can't even mix w/ your normal CDJs and mixer, but I believe there is a vid floating around where he disproves this. He'll always be known for his productions anyway, not really for his actual mixing skills.
I doubt that photo of Deadmau5' setup is what he uses regularly. Looks more like a production/DJ setup, not used for gigs.
This outlines what he usually has. The touchscreen Lemur is so badass.

But i can see how it's good for the gym. -

Nowadays there are so many options in regards to what someone uses to DJ. Hell you can do it with a laptop alone if you really wanted to.Raw Dawgin' it;1204643 wrote:What's the difference? this shit is chinese to me ha
But the "standard" way is what you see at most clubs. Pioneer CDJs (or Technics turntables) and a Pioneer 4 channel mixer. Simply put.... you play one track on Deck A, play another on Deck B, then beatmatch, blend, and use effects as you feel the need.
Now with the added technology of computer software and midi controllers (the things you see with little square pads/buttons) the combinations and styles of mixing are endless. It brings about the never ending debate, old school vs new school. I could go on for days. -

Is it one of those things where it's a lot easier than it looks - but since most people don't know how to do it it seems really hard?Automatik;1204654 wrote:Nowadays there are so many options in regards to what someone uses to DJ. Hell you can do it with a laptop alone if you really wanted to.

AutomatikAgain, it varies. I can barely wrap my head around what some of these guys are doing in a booth.
I got into it about 3 years ago, and honestly it's MUCH harder than I thought and I'm just doing your basic mixing.
Actually playing/spinning out is the easy part, preparation is what is hard. You find the tracks, arrange them, analyze quality and BPM, set cues, and then flawlessly put it all together so you sound like you know what you're actually doing.
Something most people don't realize....the majority of DJs/producers are HUGE nerds. Like anything dealing w/ music or musical instruments, you have to invest yourself.
Here's an insane vid for example....fan submitted. It's not your most conventional setup, just a good example of nice skills.
He's using two types of software, live remixing, and scratching at once. I could probably never do this...ever.

He only plays with Ableton, which I have played around with which is pretty easy. I would be able to tell the difference quite easily.Raw Dawgin' it;1204639 wrote:Crosby - if he can do the same with less why not do it? It seems like he has it figured out over them. AutomatikHere's another example. This gives you the idea of what a typical club DJ is doing. Laidback Luke...one of the best and my personal favorites. He goes traditional, 4 decks, no laptops.
Mixing starts at around 11min.

Not sure where in the vid you can find it, but he does a little scratch section using an effect from Transformers. So badass. -

lol...to be fair. Deadmau5 has put out his fair share of shite lately. He needs to stick to his progressive roots like he did w/ The Veldt.The_Crosby_Show;1204696 wrote:He only plays with Ableton, which I have played around with which is pretty easy.
