475? I do it all the time in my work van by just sitting in the middle.

If they would actually pop people with littering for this, it may happen.

I've said this before. The "common courtesy" you refer to is really common stupidity. You're supposed to merge when you're suppoesd to merge, doing so half a mile or more from that point only serves to bottleneck traffic more. Traffic jams are the result of too many cars for too little real estate, and so people like lemmings move over prematurely and exacerbate the problem. Instead of trying to get 1000 cars thru 1-mile of single lane you are making the bottleneck 2 miles unnecessarily - you're adding that much more starting and stopping which compounds the problem.

So, yes, when I see the line forming 1/2 mile or more from the merge I drive past all the suckers.

Every entrance ramp I drive by from home to work and work to home on I-71 does.

Another one that I get hit with every day coming home from work. Sun delays. I get it, it's bright. Squint or wear sunglasses instead of slamming on your breaks when you come around the corner and it's bright.

I only have to drive 2.2 miles to work and the max speed limit is 35. The idiots that I have to deal with are the ones that think even driving 40 in a 35 is too slow. Then when the road opens into a four lane they have to speed by you, cut in front of you, only to be caught by the Red light at the intersection.

I-75 right now. People are unaware of how to handle construction and narrow lanes. Pisses me off.

Ughh...75 is the devil's taint anyways. But with all the construction, it's even worse now. The fact that the ramp to 75 south from the lateral is closed makes me want to kill someone.

That is ridiculous...If no one merged until they had to, we wouldnt just have bottleneck backup, we would have accidents daily.

How about when there are 2 lanes in each direction, with the middle being a turning lane. Make sure you come to a complete stop in the faster left hand lane before you actually go into the turning area. That was I have to stop in the passing lane while you move over and I get "tail ended". Slow down a little if you need to, but i usually move over into the lane and start slowing down, so I don't cause anyone behind me to be affected.

And for those that want to merge all at the end, I have seen times when everyone has merged at 65mph and things went really smoothly and you never had to slow down. In Indiana they have signs like "move to right lane, merge in 2 miles, 1 mile, etc" and by the time the merge point happens, everyone is already there and you don't have to stop as everyone is there. Or we can use the "late merger method" and all come to a complete stop, because that really works. NOT!!!!!

Had one the other day where someone need to turn left and tried to get in the middle lane, but couldn't because some dumbass was driving in the middle getting to turn left the other way...a quarter mile down the road.

Nope, it's called knowing how to drive. Speed of traffic should equalize before the merge for a smooth transition. It's not like merging into traffic is something a driver only encounters at construction on a highway. The reality is, whether you refuse to acknowledge it or not, is the longer you have one-lane traffic the longer traffic will be backed up. This is why they don't force one lane with the cones miles before they have to.

But while drivers in OH are pretty bad, they aren't the worst. Attitudes like your and others are unsurprising because most OH drivers don't seem to respect a turn signal or lane changer, which is part of the problem Dthane mentions because it's the responsibility of BOTH drivers to recognize and yield at an oncoming merger. It's really not a complicated maneuver when people drive with actual courtesy and smarts.

Especially since this has been my every day drive home for over a year, and it is expected to go on for at least another year I believe...A very busy expressway in Toledo, and there is no better way to get home for me because there is effing construction at every turn.

Also, pulling out in front of me and going extremely slow when I was pretty close to you to begin with and there is nobody behind me or a mile.
I've had to drive from Genoa to Sylvania several times and have actually taken 280-75-Alexis or something along those lines OR gone down to P-Burg and take 475 up that way just to avoid the shit storm that is 475 up in Toledo. I seriously do anything I can to avoid that shit storm. I know you're talking about 24 going out towards Anthony Wayne, and that's even worse. F all of it. You're right, it feels like it's been going on for forever.

I'll echo your second statement as well.

I probably hate everything that's already been listed. One that kills me is getting my ass ridden on a one lane city road. Just a few weeks ago, I was driving by an area where the cops LOVE to hide and was keeping the needle right on 25(the posted limit). This guy rode my ass for about 2 miles and went off on me at the next red light; as if I did something wrong.

It sounds to me like "smart and courteous driving" is code for "I want to jam my way in front of a few more cars".

On my way to work this morning I was driving on a divided road and someone pulled out from the opposite side of the road into the middle. (It's not a turn lane, but the opening in the divider where you can turn) I was a good 110 yards from where he was waiting and there were no cars in front of me, and he waited until I was right there before he pulled out. And then he drove 20 miles an hour in a 35.

    Fuck you old man.
