"Low fat" is also bullshit. Eat fat, people. Just get it from healthy sources, not Lay's potato chips.

And the "6 small meals, once every 3 hours per day" is bullshit. May work for some but most can't do it effectively.

I was all about the smaller more frequent meals a few years ago. I made strides...got leaners stronger, but nothing compared to the changes I've encountered since jumping on the leangains bandwagon.

It is easily the best diet/workout routine I've done.

    Artificial sweetners scare me.

Lift heavy - squats, deadlifts, bench, rows, military press and pull ups should be you main focus when lifting. They all work multiple muscles at a time.

They don't have to be your only exercises but my advice is to work these into a routine a couple times a week. Make sure you go heavy on them though, do more sets at fewer reps with a heavy weight. If you're benching 150lbs 10 times for 3 sets...up the weight and sets with lower reps, say 180 for 5 sets 4-6 times.

I also lost weight doing intervals/sprints over distance running. The sprints are much more intense and get your heart rate going a lot better.

    Stevia is natural.

Are all carbonated drinks bad? Or is that a short way of saying sugary carbonated drinks?

They are either sweetened with Sugar or Sucralose or something else.

Stevia is natural, but you are still triggering your senses to think you are eating something sweet IMO therefore your body will prepare to digest said sweets. So if you are worried about that kind of thing don't use any.

Stevia is better for the gut than other sweeteners though. I really don't care and don't think it matter unless you are drinking them everyday. Once every couple of days isn't going to make a huge difference.

Agree with the heavy weights and the compound movements. I also run sprints, push a Prowler and walk for distance. That's the extent of my cardio. No long, drawn out distance running or standing on an elliptical for 45 minutes. Best way to burn fat is at two different ends of the spectrum...either short, intense bursts (sprints) or long walks (around 45 minutes).

As for vegtables, buy a big bag/container of 50/50 spring mix and spinach, eat at least one big salad a day and you are golden. Baby Carrots are also an easy one. Stop putting peanut butter on your fucking celery. Avoid processed foods, wheat flour and gluten like the plauge.

I promise you, just like corn and green beans may not be the best vegetable and peanut butter adds to the celery....all are way better than my typical diet and on day 2....it's all good.

Eat a breakfast not a lot but something (oatmeal, fruit, toast something in the morning ) very important to do

Cut out all pop drinks .. go with fresh lemon aid, water and ice tea

You don’t have to stop eating good food just cut back on the volume you eat per meal (drink a glass of water before eating dinner this helps) but try to eat less bread and pasta. Add more vegs and fish summer is a good time to really lose weight. Hot days, hard work in the yard, fresh fruit and vegs and grilling is a perfect way to lose weight.

Working in the yard, walking, any type of physical activity is good however it has to be daily. Did I mention sex as the weight goes the sex increases... That's a win win situation :)

I’m 62 years old 6’ and at one point I weighed in at 270 pounds over the last year by doing those simple steps I now weight 190 but would like to get down to 170 if possible. I think I can do this but I suffered a few injuries that have hindered my work outs. </SPAN>

I'm a small country. They use my rain coat as a tarp to keep Vermont dry.

Seriously....I need to lose about 40.

Actually, it's not important to do. The old "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" fallacy is also BS.

yeah you end up "grazing" and thats no good either.

In March of 2011 My A1C for my diabetes was 13.7% (should be less than 7%). The doc wanted me on insulin. I hate needles so I talked the doc into giving me 3 months to change things.
I cut back but don't know my calorie intake, I do know it's pretty low.
I belong to the YMCA in Newark so I am there about 2 hours every day. I take kick boxing and do a class that is very much like P90X.
Now over a year later I may have not lost a pound but several people think I have lost a lot. The best news is my A1C is now around 6.3%.
    My meals are
Breakfast- Fiber One cereal with a banana
    Break- crackers with peanut butter
Lunch- Peanut butter sandwich and an apple.
    afternoon break - Banana
right before work out -fiber one bar.
Dinner - what ever wife makes.
also I drink about 100 ounces of water every day.

No problem. To each their own but it's not "very important to do."

BR1986FB;1190266 wrote:Like you said, it's about lifestyle but the "6 small meals" doesn't "stoke the metabolic fire" like some of these gurus profess.

It may be more convenient for some but, like OneBuckeye said, you can get the same, or better, results eating two meals per day. Some people, like myself, are big eaters and get similar results on a 2000 calorie meal after a 16 hour daily fast.

The biggest thing is to cut out the processed shit. High fructose corn syrup is the friggin devil and it's sounding like it's the major cause of many different types of cancer.
    HFCS is the WORST. This!

Is dried fruit and nuts a good between meal snack?

And sparkling water? Is that bad or good?
