Losing Weight....Got Tips

  • Ironman92
I'm 37, fat and am trying to lose weight.

    What you got?

My plan.....get crap done outside of the house I've ignored, take in about 1750-2000 calories, eliminate carbonated drinks, eat a shit-ton less after dinner, moderate exercise, walk with family weekday evenings.....do crunches during Reds games instead of posting on here.

    Serious and funny only....thanks

More fruits and veggies and exercise daily. It's really that simple.

First and most important. Get your diet sorted out and stick with it. I'd go even lower. 1400-1500 a day.

I really don't like vegetables. I can do corn and green beans....

I had celery with peanut butter for one of my 6 today.

Corn and green beans are some of the worst vegetables. Do you want this or not?

Carrots, celery, grape tomatoes, broccoli are some of the easiest veggies to eat out there.

I'm going to exercise and be active enough that 1750-2000 will do it....plus I've got to work it down from a pretty big number. Starving doesn't work...well it does but Ethiopians suck at enjoying life.

When you feel hungry, drink a bottle/glass of water. If you still feel hungry in 15 minutes, you actually need food. Eat a healthy snack. Only have 1 big meal a day (for me, its dinner) and have 4-5 smaller snacks/meals a day. I usually go 2 eggs and some sort of fruit at breakfast (9-10 am), then have an apple, sandwich, some sort of junk food and a solid meal for dinner.

I also run 2.5 miles 2-3 days a week and 3-4 miles 2-3 days a week. As well as sit ups (5 days) and some weight lifting (days I run less) times a week.

If you dont have time for all the exercise parts, just start with smaller meals. Drinking water will quench hunger when your brain think sit is hungry. People over eat a ton because of that, so water really helps the calorie intake.

I'm slowly getting back into the jogging. I need to shed about 10 first.....I have XC runnings in July so that's the initial goal. Busy lifestyle with my kids gets the best of me. No excuses this summer.

Good for you man, legit just have to stay with it. Don't get discouraged in 2 weeks when you're not miraculously changed. I gained a ton of weight when tore my PCL and meniscus in college, running and diet change is what did it for me. NPR had a story recently that even little things ilke standing up every 20 min at work helps.

Not sure what you do for work, but every little bit helps.

Yep. Glad you echoed my statement. Its amazing how much less you will eat in a day when you are constantly drinking water. Dont wait till you are thirsty, thats dehydration. Typically, you need water when you feel hungry more than food. By the same token, you should be drinking even before then.

I started drinking close to a gallon a day (more when outside in the summer) and I probably cut my food intake in half from college (granted I ate a ton more in college anyway, but the point stands).

Im just telling it like it is.

Too many times I hear people aiming to improve their health/weight, but piss and moan the moment it gets rough and don't want to put in the effort. My dad was the exact same way.

You know what put his ass in gear? When the doc told him his triglyceride levels were fucked.

Your Dad's doc had some rough language.

It'll have to be celery and carrots.

Green Beans and Corn are pretty much why America is fat.

An obese lady came into my store the other day to ask what she could take to lose weight. I said that Kroger had a nice selection of fruits and vegetables across the street. (she was not pleased). She said "I hate vegetables just give me a pill or something"

I'm glad you aren't looking for a shortcut, they are aren't safe. Green tea is a great idea though, boosts your metabolism, gives you a little bit of energy and curbs your appetite. I'd add some green tea to your diet and like you said, exercise and eat healthy.

Salads, broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts are my "go to's"

All can be made in ways that don't taste terrible.

And all can be made within 10 minutes of wanting to eat them.

Price and actually spending the time to make healthy food is the biggest deterrent. But most vegetables dont really take much time. You can boil, steam or cook them in a pan. None of which takes too much time. The main course is usually the only part of my meal that takes time to make.

I second the green tea idea.
