I just think it's funny that a number of this site's (and in general) Christians respond to acts of people of other religions (particularly the muslims) doing something crazy as it being a sign of how evil and horrible their religion is...but excuse anything crazy done by their side as being the work of a "fringe" person/group that doesn't represent the group as a whole. No matter how many of them there are, they are all "fringe". Brings the lulz.
    1. Comparing a kid singing about homosexuals to muslims blowing up buildings is retarded.
    2. At least use something that is apples to apples like the National LIberation Front of Tripura (India), the Lord's Resistance Army (Uganda), the KKK, Christian's in the US bombing abortion clinics, etc. At least that would make sense in comparison.
    3. You won't find a majority of Christians saying all of those are "fringe" while saying all muslims are evil due to terrorists. I would LOVE to see some statistics on this proving me wrong.

Easy to call it trolling rather than accept that you believe in ridiculous shit that never happened.

Heretic;1185971 wrote:True in most walks of life. You get that with athletes, as well. The guy who never gets into legal troubles, does a lot of charity work and is a devoted family man is too boring to talk about; but you never stop hearing about the guy who waved around a gun in a strip club while coked up, leading to "they're all thugs!" rants.
Just because you keep hearing about the idiotic people in a few churches (Westboro Baptist for example) doesn't negate the statement that these are "fringe" elements of Christian religions...that is all I was saying.

Singing about homos today, bombing abortion clinics tomorrow. He's on the path god put him on, there's no way to stop it, his futures already been written.

Easy to be a hardcore militant atheist and use ad hominem attacks on anyone that believes in ANY sort of faith rather than opening your eyes to other possibilities.

In his defense he never said other possibilities don't exist - he says he doesn't know which is why he doesn't go around claiming things like you and skyhook

I think your more upset that a nerd in 6 sentences can completely embarrass your entire belief system. Your reaction is perfect given your insecurities on your faith because you KNOW deep down inside that what you believe is fraudulent. It's called cognitive dissonance, look it up. Your mind is broken.

I also find it ironic you chastise me for not being open to other possibilities. I'm sure you don't believe in the same religion your parents do and that you've pondered not only every monotheistic religion out there, but all the polytheistic ones as well. You "know" yours is correct though, that everyone else is wrong and yours is the correct religion. You can't prove it, but you just "know".

    Get over yourself.

The point is that teaching this type of hate at such a young age is only going to give this young kid an extreme view as he gets older that gays are terrible and should be dead. The only way this type of hate/racial profiling/racism/etc. goes away is if parents stop teaching their kids this type of stuff. This isn't the early twenties where we are defined by our standing in the community. It should be the age where equality is for everyone, plain and simple. The fact people are justifying this is just dumb. The kid is being taught to hate people. If you substituted blacks in there for gays, there would be a huge uproar. Because it's gays, and the majority of America is religious based, then it gets a free pass. It's hypocrisy at it's finest.

Actually he does a fair amount of both.

What do I claim on here other than things that are possible. I have never claimed to know anything for a fact with regards to religion.

    1. I have never said I 'KNOW' my religion is correct, matter of fact I'm pretty sure the 'religion' that I happen to attend that type of church has MANY things wrong. I have only said what I believe to be true and given evidence to show certain things are scientifically possible even if improbable.
    2. No, I do not believe the same stuff my parents do, matter of fact at one point in my life I fully believed evolution to be a scientific fact only later to realize this is not so.
    3. I have studied many religions, Christianity (many different denominations from Catholicism to Mormonism to Jehovah Witnesses, etc), Judaism, Hindu, Islam, even ancient religions like what the Mayans believed. I spent a lot of time when I was between the ages of 16 and 24 studying MANY aspects of what I believe and challenging every one of those beliefs.

Again, you are incorrect, I have never said I KNOW my belief system (hate the term religion) to be correct, I have just said that I BELIEVE it is correct.

Why would you believe in something you don't know exists? You believe in god and believe the bible to be true so yes, what you're saying is you believe is fact.

I am a scientist, so saying that I "know" something to be a fact takes a lot more than it would for most people.

I can say that if I throw a baseball as hard as I can and hit a house window that I believe the window will break. It has a pretty good chance of breaking, but I can not say I KNOW the window will break.

I truly believe in God, but I can not say that I know for a fact that God exists. Again, being a scientist makes my brain work a little different than most "facts" have to be proven and God can not be proven to exist or proven to not exist.

The converse is an equally interesting question. Why would one believe God doesn't exist, as there is no more evidence to support this position as that he does?

What an arrogant request. I have faith that you are wrong. Faith trumps fact; that's what believers have told me.

Yeah I suppose it is a little ridiculous to require a majority of proof before subscribing my entire life to a belief system. Thank god we have parents to indoctrinate us, otherwise no rational person would do anything but dismiss religion as a fairy tale.
