“I don’t know if I won. Some of the numbers were familiar. I recognized some of [them],’’ she said. “I don’t know why’’ people are saying differently. “I’m going to go to the lottery office [today]. I bought some tickets separately.”
    WTF is this?

not just her, but the lottery ruins more lives than it makes better. there was even a documentary on this a while back. i saw there was a 16 year old england i think, she lost all of her money by the time she was 18.

That's because most people that win are fucking idiots. Pretty simple.

Because 99% of people who play are idiots.

99% of all people are idiots. We are the 1%.

"We"? Did you read this thread? Almost everyone on here bought a ticket. I think you meant "me" as in sleeper. I did not win, and I did not buy a ticket.

Read mine again. I wasn't talking about tickets. Besides, you did leave 1% for non-idiot players.

I didn't buy a ticket, but sleeper still considers me an idiot. :(

    I actually agree with this.
  • Tiernan
99% of people are idiots and it has nothing to do with playing the lottery.

    Also true.

You have to be some kind of super retarded idiot to be able to blow the kind of money they are going to get from winning this lottery. I don't see how it's possible, although I also am able to plan ahead and budget for stuff. Maybe that's my flaw.

It's called "I'm gonna buy this, this, this, this, this, this..."

It's also called I'm going to tell everyone I know I won the lottery, so they can come out of the woodwork and take my money from me.

Yeah, if you want to cheat your co-workers out of their winnings, you just set-up a trust to collect. Say nothing to anyone. Then quietly leave work a few months later "for another job". And move to a nice sunny locale to start your new life.

But obviously she ain't no rocket scientist. Lesson here though, for those who do participate in such office pools, is to demand a copy of the purchased pool tickets beforehand.

People going broke, hating life/themselves, etc after winning the lottery really strengthens the case that most people who play it are morons.

So did that lady from McD's that claimed she won (and said she bought the winning ticket seperate than the work pool) really win?

It would be an interesting question for a jury. Remember, in civil trials the burden of proof is somewhere less than beyond a reasonable doubt.

Was thinking about this. 200 (or however many pool tickets she bought) with a time stamp clearly different (even a few minutes) from the winner might be enough for me. But if she couldn't produce those 200 tickets (i.e. "I threw out the losers")?

If all you had to go on was she had the winning ticket, and there's no video or timestamps or anything else to indicate whether it was a pool ticket or her personal ticket. What would you decide?
