Idol 2012

Just saw Phillip's cover of The Stone, pretty solid given he had to cut it down to a few minutes.

    5. Hollie

    3. Josh
    2. Phil
    1. Jessica

....Hollie next week.....but Skyler and Josh are longshot goodbyes IMO

The mostly sung the better known songs. Singing those songs are a two way street IMO. Some songs are so iconic, you better be able to bring it if you expect people to like it. On the other hand, people do want to hear the classics. If you sing a lesser known song, they might forget about you regardless of how well you sing it.

Elise and Skylar were the only two left I actually liked and with Elise gone I guess I want Skylar to win. I just can't get into Jessica or Hollie. Phil and Joshua aren't bad but I'm not huge on either. I guess if Stefano from last season can get a contract Elise should be able to grab one so I'm alright with her leaving last night.

All were excellent at what they do (outside of Phil in his duo...yuck)

Hollie killed it once and was solid the other.

Phil is good but it's the same thing every week and I'm pretty tired of watching his weird facial expressions (if you gotta poop....go poop)

    Jessica was great both times

Josh was good and is about to sing the second time.

Skylar is very good at what she does and can mix it up.

I really hope Phil leaves this week. Just too one dimensional IMO.

Hollie is getting better and better and Jessica is keeping the bar high.
  • Ironman92
    Yeah....Josh smoked it!

    IMO Jessica and Joshua....safe

    Phil, Hollie, Skylar....bottom 3

    Hollie safe

    Phil/Skylar

    Phil leaves.

Spend 5mins watching this and you will see what Phil is going for

Yeah...two bad weeks in a row for Phil. He peaked too early. I thought Sklar was awful both times....but the judges loved it.SMH.
  • Ironman92
I know what Phil is going for and as I said....he, along with the other 4 are very good at what they do.....but I don't like what Phil does.

Skylar....this had to be the toughest theme. I did not like the songs....but she can country scream....great personality. She could tour country right now for any country act and country fans would love it. I like her....her music is ok....but she is very good.
  • bigdaddy2003
I believe Phil will be heading home tonight.
  • ricola
remember all the teeny bopper girls call in and vote---they all like Phil---so even tho he should have left weeks ago, I'm afraid he'll be back.
  • Ironman92
    Goodbye Skylar.

She'll be fine and country successful.

Her performance of Wind Beneath My Wings was one of the better performances of the entire season.
  • Belly35
Could not let a country singer win again ......... :D
  • HitsRus
^^^agree with that...but I thought her first song last nite was frenetic and screachy. She deserved to go home.

The Idol directors and producers know that...Phil making it to the finals is also good for ratings.....again, he is good at what he does.

First time I have ever not really cared to watch the final couple weeks of the show. As I have said before I understand these singers may be solid but I just don't care for them all that much. Phil, Joshua, and Hollie aren't bad and I just really can't get into Jessica at all.

I've come to eat my crow about Skylar winning it all. I guess the country voters weren't out in force as they were last season. I admit as someone noted above she was not that great the other night.

Joshua has really grown on me the past few weeks. I would never buy one of his CDs, but I have to admit he is very good at what he does. I know people love Phillip for the whole Dave Matthews vibe, but I thought his duet with Joshua "You've lost the loving feeling" exposed how week his voice was. There were several notes where he sounded like Peter on the episode of the Brady Bunch when his voice started to change.

I too can't get into Jessica. I can't deny she has talent, there is just something missing for me. Maybe it is because of her age or very youthful appearance.

I am not into this season at all, but if Jessica doesn't win there is something wrong with America. She has the best voice this season and it isn't even close.

Let's be honest, no matter how much Randy tries to convince us, this top 5 was crap compared to most seasons. Hollie, Phil, and Skylar would be out around 8-10 most seasons.

Remember in seasons past when Daughtry was out around 4 or 5...do we really think Hollie, Skylar, or Phil are anywhere near Daughtry's level?

Skylar will be fine. Of the 5, she has the best chance to actually sell a few records. She'll be signed and in Nashville working on an album as soon as the summer tour is over.

Jessica = Jordin Sparks. She'll get an intial push, then fade into the sunset and end up hosting the Kid's Choice Awards on Nick.

Joshua, (Or as my eldest calls him, "vocal jesus" lol) is probably the best pure singer they've ever had on the show. If he finds someone to manage him correctly and steer him in the right direction, he might have a nice little career. His vibe is a little "1962" to be successful right out of the box though.

Hollie simply lacks the charisma to make it in this business. She'll be an afterthought within 12 months, win or lose.

Phil - The world already has a Dave Matthews. It doesn't need another one. Phil will be playing county fairs within 18 months.

Joshua is amazing, but to be honest, especially given her age, Jessica has a better voice than Joshua. I do agree with you though that Joshua has the best chance coming out of the box.

Jessica is just too 'young' right now in my opinion and doesn't have much 'star appeal' to sell many records.

I do believe that Jessica and Joshua might be the two best pure singers the show has ever had, the rest of the top 5 were not that good at all.

I think you have forgotten how some of those season went down. Remember, there were seasons where people like Jasmine Trias, Taylor Hicks, Blake Lewis and Jason Castro made the top 3-4 (Hicks won and Lewis was a semi-finalist). I think most if not all of those top 5 could compete in those seasons.

As fish noted, I think Joshua has a great voice as well. Like Jessica, dude is young (he is 19). If he were born in a different era he probably would have been a member of the Temptations. LOL!
  • bigdaddy2003
I'd be willing to bet that none of the contestants that are left will be successful. It's just a bad year.

I see her as a the next Selena Gomez or Hilary Duff...only with the chops to have an extended career singing show tunes or Broadway.
Joshua( as was noted on the show) will be big ...and they are going to take extra good care of him because of his potential.

Here are the Las Vegas betting odds for the top 5 on AI (before Skylar was eliminated)...april 27.

    http://www.americanidolbettingodds.com/.

    Phil Phillips 4/5
    Jessica Sanchez 5/2
    Joshua Ledet 5/1
    Skylar lane 7/1
    Hollie Cavanaugh 40/1

Wow...Hollie at 40-1. Gotta figure now that Skylar is gone her odds are better. ...and Phil's so-so week and Joshua's good week had to have tightened the difference.
