Idol 2012

I am starting to wonder if it is Skylar's to lose honestly.
If Skylar wins, you might as well change the name to 'Country Idol'. The top two finishers last year were country...and if Skylar were to win, you'd have to think that the demographics of the show are skewed. Personally, I think Skylar is not as good as the two last year. and should have been gone in at 9.

County music fans/voters only have one choice in their genre of music to vote for. And there are a lot of country music fans with cell phones and internet access apparently. That is what happens when you let the masses decide the contest.

I was closer than the others on here that doubted my post.

    Elise is leaving next.

Colton, Hollie and Elise in the bottom 3...with Colton going home.

    The cuts get tough.
    Well played.

Get ready for it. Skylar has that "I'm white trash and proud" quality about her that resonates with a lot of people of the same ilk. As Ringz noted she is the only one of her genre. Throwing out Elise and Hollie (the next two to go) that leaves you Philip, Jessica, Joshua and Skylar. Joshua is very talented, but I honestly don't think there are many people who are big R&B fans who vote. Jessica could win but has shown not to connect with an audience and that could cost her in the end. Plus I think she and Joshua split the pot amongst the urban voters who are more attracted to their genre. Phillip also could win, his song choices are going to be huge as there are some things that just don't work at all with his voice/style.

Ha what makes her white trash? I mean I usually agree with you about a lot of things but it could just be that people like the way she sings. Like I said before Jessica may be the best singer but if people don't care for the songs she chooses or her style they aren't going to vote for her. I thought it was funny that the judges think the people just don't connect with her. I'm not saying I'm in the majority but I don't need to connect with a singer to enjoy their work.

I think Jessica sounds like a whinny little bitch half the time do maybe that's why I don't like her. I think it comes down to Phil Phillips and skylar.

I also thought Colton's 2nd song was one of his best but I guess people didn't agree with me lol

I guess reviewing my post in hindset it comes across as derogatory. I did not intend for it to be that way. Looking back, white trash was probably not what the term I meant. What I mean is that she is a true country girl (big difference between white trash) in the true sense of the word.

I do think she is a good singer and as I noted earlier, she reminds me of a cross between Reba and Gretchen Wilson. Some will note she has some technical flaws but the thing to remember is she is only 17 years old. She is going to get a lot better. I think she is going to win some CMA Awards and sell a lot of records when it is all said and done.

People like Skylar and Phillip because of their personalities. I think Jessica's personalty has not shown yet (or alternatively maybe she just does not have a great personality). Like Skylar she too is young (girl is 16). It will all develop with time and I suspect she is going to be huge someday.

The bottom line is that at this point everyone is good enough to win. If I went into a coma today and didn't wake up until after the finale and you told me who won I wouldn't say "how in the hell did that happen?" The best technical singer isn't always going to win and the judges should know that by now. Like I said I don't buy that people aren't connecting with Jessica 100 percent as the reason she was voted off last week and probably won't win in my opinion. It could just be that people don't care for what she sings or how she sings. As I have stated before I personally like Elise better. I finally heard a cat on Youtube agree with what I said about the judges being overly outraged last week when Jessica was voted off. The average person at home cant hear what the judges hear and by that I mean when a singer is off pitch and all of the other technical stuff. It's obvious when you hear some of the jokers in the auditions that are horrible but at this point when everyone is good it's not that easy.

I am going to agree with you again. I personally like Elise (she has a lot of soul in her voice and there's something about her that I find extremely sexy). Obviously Ironman92 does not as it seems every other post from him on this thread mentions how horrible she is.

Ha I actually find something about her sexy also.

Have I ever said she's horrible? I like her the least....doesn't mean she isn't good....she is good....I just don't like her like I do the others. I don't know any of them from the man on the moon but they seem like tremendous people/kids.

Elise is good. I do believe she is the least talented of the ones left and IMO is the next to leave....but I also feel it was the best top 7 from top to bottom ever....and she was/is a part of it.

Someone mentioned Skylar should go and I have to say I disagree. She is a lot better singer and entertainer than that Scotty McQueary kid who won the whole thing last year impersonating John Micheal Montgomery every week.

AI is all about what I call "voting blocks". Like Scotty last year, Skylar will have all the country-music fans voting for her which will carry her very far. Nobody cares about Elise or Hollie so they will be the next two to go (in no particular order). As I noted before, Colton has a huge voting block in young girls who think he is cute. He will stick around for the final three with Sklyar and Jessica.

    I was right.

Looking back through all the thread I kept picking Elise to leave thinking she didn't have the fan base and seemed kinda bitter compared to everyone once reaching the top 8. She's been good multiple times but did hate her performance of You and I by Gaga....just didn't like anything about it.
  • HitsRus
Elise is hot or cold...She does some great stuff...then stinks up the joint. I can't imagine her or Hollie not going home next week.
  • HitsRus
some pretty good performances last nite...and some real dogs too....especially the second songs by Elise and Phil Phillips.

Phil has enough love to last him thru a few more shows at least. Elise, ehhh not so much. Holiie was very good but still hasn't hit a home run yet.
The cuts are gettuing tough...I'm thinking the next two weeks will see Hollie and Elise exit, but not necessarily in that order.
  • fish82
IMO, Hollie punched Elise's ticket home with the Miley song. It appeals to a large voting block, and she pretty much crushed it.

After watching that last night, I went back and watched some Queen performances. Especially the Live Aid one and it reaffirmed that no matter how well someone sings a Queen song, it will pale in comparison. Greatest frontman in rock history.

As for the show, Elise is gone. Most of Idols audience probably doesnt know who jimi hendrix is, let alone the song she sang. If she was going Hendrix , should have went Purple Haze.

Voice > Idol this year, IMO.
  • bigdaddy2003
Question. I've only watched the first part of the show where they sing as a group and I noticed they did a chunk of Queen's hit songs. They don't sing lesser known songs for their personal performances do they?

I disagree. I could really care less about the people left on the voice. I really like the way it starts though, but American Idol seems to have much better talent at this stage in the game.

I agree. The blind auditions on The Voice are great, but all the bullshit stage props they use now are annoying as hell--and IMO, it seems like most of the contestants are regressing.

To be honest, I can do without either--the Sing Off is better than both of them
