I don't take pot. I take names. Then I kick ass.

Then I turn those names into the PD for taking pot.

    Set time limit for games.
    Turn games off.
Tell yelling screaming kids to STFU.
    Make them go outside
    Say NO!

Too many parents wanting to be "friends" or afraid to say no to the miserable little flesh bags. How many times have you been out in public and seen some kid just screaming at their parents and the parents just take it?

That's also on society, to a large degree. If a parent would tell said screaming kid to STFU and maybe smack his ass, no doubt some self righteous fuck head would get all upset and call child services.

I didnt grow up with video games, or the web, or cable/satellite.

It was playing outside or working.

Rode our bikes everywhere and wouldnt be uncommon to ride into town, spend all day and then ride home or if it getting late have us get picked up after dark.

Does that usually work? At least on your kids anyway?

I don't have kids, but it sure as hell worked when I was growing up. Parents need to be parents, not friends.

I had video games, sort of the web, and I did all that. All about good parenting.

Didn't have the web yet, but did have games. But still was outside all the time because my parents weren't big fails and made sure to allocate how much time I could play.

I can participate in a conversation about step parenting....

    Very similar concept.

    Step parenting is parenting.

*Seems obvious...but a lot of people think of it as being quite different. Not me. My stepdad treats us like his kids and we treat him like a dad. I just happen to have a real dad, too...and they are both great parents.

Step parenting is a little different animal though.

Not in my family. I edited my post before seeing this...but I kind of explained it there.

That's great. Each situation I suppose is different I would imagine.

I think it is different. As a step parent ya dont always have the last say in it to the kid. "Well my dad lets me......" and it is like many times they feel like they have two diff sets of rules and values.
It can be hard enough for two regular parents to be on the same page about things, but when the kid also has a dad of his own, maybe even a step mom, the kid has too many diff sets.

I understand how that can happen and unfortunately I think my family is in the minority when it comes to the step parents role. But my stepdad has always provided for us just like we were his own children. We lived under his roof and followed his rules (and I still do, actually). I could never see myself telling him no in his own home. Do we get in fights? Yes. Do I say I don't want to do something he asks me once in a while? Of course. But like I said...his house, his rules. When I am at my dads house...it's his rules. It may sound complicated, but it really, truly isn't. It's actually really, really easy and makes a lot of sense to me.
