Argument I just got in re: Food Stamps
-
Scarlet_BuckeyeMe:
Friend:USA becomes Food Stamp Nation - http://t.co/9WyaKSB >> 46M ppl (or 15% of the US population) are on food stamps. Really? REALLY? #ComeOnPPL
Me:did you also know that 1 in 7 ppl live in poverty and the poverty rate is at an all time high, esp for children who benefit greatly from food stamps. That means about $20,000 for a family of four. It serves as a supplement to those who earn shit.
Friend:Yeah but ppl shouldn't be reproducing if they can't even provide for themselves. How you gonna provide for someone else? There's WAAAAYYYY too many ppl in this country that are LIVING off of food stamps. The idea of food stamps is to provide relief, not to sustain. If momma can't provide food for herself, then momma doesn't need to be having 4 children who are going to be free riding off the system. Let's not contribute to the deficit, let's work to resolve it.
Me:so sterilize poor ppl?
Thoughts? The World Health Organization defines reproductive rights as:
Reproductive rights rest on the recognition of the basic right of all couples and individuals to decide freely and RESPONSIBLY the number, spacing, and timing of their children and to have the information AND MEANS to do so.
If you can't be responsible for your own, and if you don't have the means to provide for your own, then you shouldn't be bumpin uglies. -

Scarlet_BuckeyeJust wanted to make sure I wasn't coming out of left field or anything like that.

Fab1bNope, I hate people having children without the means to support them. That includes my sister who is having her 3rd in Sept. She barely escaped with her life this time as i was going to kill her and her man!!
-
ts1227Children don't benefit from food stamps because more often than not their parents just use it for Mountain Dew and Monster for themselves.
It's complete bullshit that theres nothing prohibiting people from getting energy drinks on those cards -
gorocks99Just because people shouldn't reproduce because they don't have the means to support a child doesn't mean they won't.
-
Fab1bYeah the stuff they can buy with these benefits are mindblowing and some of them allow you to get cash so then you can just go buy what they won't allow you to with the card anyways!

Not targeting your sister but they (the food stamp collectors) become baby machines so they can collect more & more food stamps. Know a situation where the mother of 5 kids, by the age of EIGHTEEN, was going to get her tubes tied and her "momma" said "don't be doin' that. You want to keep those food stamps/welfare rollin' in." It's fucking pathetic. This is a subject you REALLY don't want to get me started on. -
IliketurtlesI'm with you as well SB. I really wish they would do away with food stamps. I hated to watch people come in and buy nice steaks, crab legs, lobsters(etc.) all on food stamps when I was in high school working at Kroger. I really hope they at least start drug testing people on food stamps and test for everything even beer and cigarettes if you can afford to buy those things then you can afford to not be on food stamps.

queencitybuckeyeBasic economics tells us what you subsidize, you get more of.

If that is the case, how do I go about subsidizing loose women? -
BR1986FBAnd the "baby daddy's" are as bad at mooching as the mommas. They refuse to go get a job or, better yet, deal drugs, not getting taxed. Fucking pieces of shit.

Yeah my mom works with a lady who will buy others stuff on her food stamps(she has like 6 kids and gets ridiculous amount) and will only make you pay her 3/4 of it in cash. It's amazing how much the system is abused. -

My sisters man is a POS!!!! I call him Cousin Eddie -
BR1986FBFab1b;871359 wrote:My sisters man is a POS!!!! I call him Cousin Eddie
Most of the baby daddy's are because a lot of THEM come from single moms or families with piece o' shit dads. They've never had to work because their momma was on welfare/food stamps and that's all they've seen all of their life.
What's worse is when there ARE little kids involved and the POS father takes the food stamps and sells them, at half price or lower, so they have cash for things like beer, smokes & drugs....taking food out of the kids mouths.
I can tell you a situation where the father was a drug dealer and the grandmother of the girl with him confronted him on being a drug dealer to which his response was "I do this for my kids" even though he's repeatedly taken food out of their mouths and never bought a thing for them. -

Belly35As a product of the welfare system living on food stamps and project living ... the welfare system is an anchor around the necks of the poor. Many of those on welfare that receive food subsidies do not spend wisely nor have the ambition to do so, pissing away what potential life improvement they receive only to be pulled down deeper into the entitlement mentality …
Children are victims of this system and are used as bait to catch more of the 100% free profits of entitlements. Living in the Projects families of many had 3 or 4 different fathers that never showed up nor paid anything. Some fathers shared in the profits of welfare children taking part of the welfare or living free within the Project complex.
The only way to lessen the Welfare and Food Subsities programs is to stop the production / reward benefits program of out of wedlock children and to find those who are the father making them pay their share…. If the mother can’t identify the father no social service entitlement provide… simple and direct…
To many of the welfare population will never find a way out of poverty … I was lucky and had a single parent that showed me what it will take to get out of the projects, to enjoy the good life of being self supportive, freedoms and perks that come with financial security.
Poor is easy is easy what you want?
….. People are poor because they want to be poor … -
FatHobbitBelly35;871399 wrote:People are poor because they want to be poor...
I'm not sure I agree with that. A lot of them are poor because they don't know any better, not because they want to be.
But I'm not saying the answer is handouts. -
BoatShoesIn reply to the argument.
BR1986FB brings up the familiar situations of abuse that we all know occur. But this is the exception and not the rule...especially now when we have >9% unemployment. Your friend did not give a clever retort but your implication when you say "come on people" is that people on food stamps, by and large, desire to be parasites on the national welfare state; that this is somehow, for the most part, because people are lazy and want a free ride. Everyone always wants to talk about the one baby momma they know who's a welfare queen. I live in downtown Cleveland and am familiar with this demographic. Well, that's fine....but even if we accept that those people exist and are scum...they are not the reason we are a "food stamp nation" now. There are obvious problems of abuse. I am not disputing that.
But, we are a food stamp nation because we have a dismal economy and disastrously high and persistent unemployment and believe it or not, were it not for food stamps aggregate demand would be even worse and all of those stores still selling food to these people would be adding more people to the unemployment insurance dole. Hell, there are people I know with J.D.'s that face the prospect of going on food stamps for heaven's sake. I can assure you that they'd rather be working. For most people it is heart-wrenching to have to walk into the county office and tell somebody that you can't afford to support yourself. So it seems both you and your friend have elements of wrongness in your positions IMHO. Perhaps you might have more of an argument if there was 5% unemployment but that is not the world we're living in. -

I get what you're saying and agree that assistance DOES have it's place for those who NEED it. But these circumstances I mention aren't "bad apples" or "isolated incidents." It runs rampant down where I live...bunch of welfare collecting, baby making machines soaking the system. Keep your heels from behind your earlobes at the age of 15 and we might not be dealing with a lot of this shit. -

sleeperI don't really have a problem with food stamps per say, but they should only be a temporary assistance for those that need it. The only long term food stamp program should exist for those that physically/mentally cannot work. Can't afford food without food stamps? Go steal. I'll gladly pay for you to rot in jail.
