fan_from_texasWhat's on your list? We haven't seen a good movie lately, so I'm looking for suggestions.

Lord of the Rings (I'll treat 'em all as one)
Forrest Gump
Honorable mention for:
The Usual Suspects
Zoolander
Saving Private Ryan
Life is Beautiful
The Prestige
Gladiator
The King's Speech

Needless to say, I'm a big fan of the Coen Bros. -
dlazzThe Big Lebowski is the most over-rated movie I've ever seen. I was so disappointed by it.
ib4 "that's just like, your opinion, man."
also lol @ zoolander. you should feel bad for posting that. -

Agree 100%. I think it was just too over hyped by the time I actually saw it.dlazz;857528 wrote:The Big Lebowski is the most over-rated movie I've ever seen. I was so disappointed by it.

Manhattan BuckeyeYou missed the best quote, it is:
"I had a rough night, and I hate the $&#^ Eagles, man".
The absurdity is genius. That film is as close to comedic perfection as we'll ever see. -
FatHobbitI can't narrow it down to 5. I tried this before and have a list of 75. I could cut that down a bit, but not anywhere close to 5. And I'm probably missing some.
Also, I have not seen Schindler's list or Inception. Those are both on the list of movies I need to watch. -

Okay, I give you 1-3 and 5, but O Brother Where Art Thou? That might go on my list of 5 movies I most hated, along with Garden State. I know a lot of people like it, but I just didn't.Manhattan Buckeye;857526 wrote:1) Chinatown

Put a cork in it, dlazz! Zoolander is a classic, up there with Airplane, The Big Lebowski, and Blazing Saddles in my book.
Schindler's List is great, great, great. Moving, gut-wrenching, very visceral. I don't think I've ever been so physically moved by a movie like that--it was intense. I don't think I'd watch it again, but I'm glad I did once.FatHobbit;857540 wrote:Also, I have not seen Schindler's list or Inception. Those are both on the list of movies I need to watch.
We saw Inception last weekend. Good movie, but not great--it reminded me of Memento, where half the movie is just figuring out the details of what's going on. Cool idea, pretty good execution, solid movie and worth the money, but not in my top 10. -
dlazzAirplane is leaps and bounds better than Lebowski. You are going to hell for putting those two on the same level.

Surely you must be joking. -
bigdaddy2003Coen Brothers are great. I like everything they have made. I have yet to check out two of their movies though. I believe they came out in the late 80's or early 90's.

Certainly a film that is controversial, and that gathers strong opinions. For me it is pure joy. The audacity to take Homer's Odyssey and translate it into a septia-laced Great Depression-era Mississippi background story is a bold endeavor. The film just makes me happy. I have two copies of the dvd (US and Aussie region) and when I get upset about something I just put it in and go to my favorite parts - the musical numbers themselves are enough to make me forget about any problems.
I could go to this scene every day:
"Pete: Well I'll be a sonofabitch. Delmar's been saved.
Delmar O'Donnell: Well that's it, boys. I've been redeemed. The preacher's done warshed away all my sins and transgressions. It's the straight and narrow from here on out, and heaven everlasting's my reward.
Ulysses Everett McGill: Delmar, what are you talking about? We've got bigger fish to fry.
Delmar O'Donnell: The preacher says all my sins is warshed away, including that Piggly Wiggly I knocked over in Yazoo.
Ulysses Everett McGill: I thought you said you was innocent of those charges?
Delmar O'Donnell: Well I was lyin'. And the preacher says that that sin's been warshed away too. Neither God nor man's got nothin' on me now. C'mon in boys, the water is fine.
and still get uplifted by it. -

I'll add these on my HM list. -
Manhattan Buckeye"Raiders of the Lost Ark"
A timeless classic (or is that an oxymoron?), at any rate a film that could be released in '11 and be the biggest hit of the year. A great, great film.
