Your Top 5 Must-Watch Movies

I can't figure out my next four though. Probably throw in No Country For Old Men, Green Street Hooligans, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (my favorite movie as a kid), American History X, Dumb and Dumber (my favorite comedy), and O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

I am sure there are several that I could put in front of those movies, but I can't think of all of them. I like Airplane!, the Bourne movies, the first 3 Indiana Jones movies, anything by John Candy, the Back to the Future movies, Remember the Titans, and The Green Mile.

Movies I despise that people have listed:
    300
    Old School
    Religulous
    -- more of a documentary
    Hangover
    Slumdog Millionaire
You despise 300 and The Hangover? Wow

Yeah, they did nothing for me.

I am not into the comedy where it's all nudity, vulgarity, and drunkenness. So thus, The Hangover and Old School do nothing for me. I think comedies aren't anything like they used to be. All the "funny" movies these days have to be filled with the above (and things like it). They seem to lack any sort of originality that John Candy, John Belushi (although he could be vulgar), Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd, and even David Spade/Chris Farley. I cannot stand Will Ferrell (except in Kicking and Screaming -- which wasn't a typical Ferrell-esque movie). I am more of a slapstick humor kind of guy, gimme the Three Stooges over any of these "comedians" today.

As for 300, I just wasn't too caught up in all the CGI/green screen stuff. I didn't like all the computer enhanced male bodies. Those things just didn't make a good movie for me. Maybe despise is too strong for 300, but it just wasn't a big deal for me.

Hahaha. Well, I have also been told, "You just don't like anything that is popular" or better explained, "I don't like things because everyone else likes them." Not saying anyone on here is like that, but there are a lot of people who like movies and worship movies because it is the popular thing to do.

I wont even go with my top 5, but since its a "must watch" list Ill try to go with more thinking/moving/historical importance movies. Stuff that is gut wrenching, in a good way.

    Not in order:
    1. Shawshank Redemption
    2. American History X
    3. Saving Private Ryan
    4. To Kill a Mockingbird
    5. Schindler's List

SOOOO many others that I wanted to list, but just dont make the cut. Apocalypse Now is at the very top of the HM list though. I mean, right there.
  • cat_lover
    The Godfather I and II
    Shawshank Redemption
    Blazing Saddles
    The Wizard of Oz
    Raging Bull
  • BORIStheCrusher
    American Psycho
    Memento
    Godfather 1&2
    Inception
    Usual Suspects

Noticed I don't have any comedies so I'll add..

    Airplane
    Animal House
    Blazing Saddles
    The Big Lebowski
    Caddyshack
  • Belly35
    We Were Soldiers
    Field Of Dreams
    Patriot
    Braveheart
A Knight's Tale or American Graffiti
  • Scooter1369
    1. The Patriot
    2. Braveheart
    3. Gladiator
    4. Saving Private Ryan
    5. Return of the Jedi

I think 300 was OK to bad. Worth watching once, but just not my style. I did like Sin City a lot though.

Sin City is awesome. I wish the studios would get off their duff and make the sequel rather than produce another third tier comic book film.
  • THE4RINGZ
    Full Metal Jacket
    Hangover Part 1
    Rudy
    Something about Mary
    Billy Madison

No he didn't, nice fail. Not sure how enjoying a Will Ferrell movie makes you a "fratboy/wanna be hardass". SMH at that post.

It has been pushed back a couple times. It was originally supposed to be released in 2008 or 09 but for some reason they keep pushing it back. I just checked IMDB and now they don't even have anything on it. Strange.

Well that sucks, Shit movies like Harold and Kumar christmas/smurfs are being yet. Yet an awesome amazing series is being dragged through purgatory. Doesn't make any sense.

    I tend to agree.

Fail on your part Douche Commander. He mentioned 300 for one, and Ieven listed a Will Ferrell movie myself. It was bigdaddys tone of message when he basically say "how dare you think 300 isnt awesome"

good job trying to put me down, but the only thing that happened was fail.

Ha he didn't slap me down either. I've just never heard anyone say they weren't entertained by 300 and there wasn't a tone. I was just simply in shock.
  • rydawg5
it was a ton of shock and surprise. you were "bitch slapped" with the reality that some dont like it. its not a huge diss

lol at you resorting to name calling. Nice to see you got nothing. Interesting to note that you can tell BD's tone over a typed message, good to know we have a mind reader on the boards. Little sensitive don't you think?

I agree, I've never heard anyone say they didn't enjoy 300, including girls. I suspect he's just one of "those guys" who always has the opposing view point of anything popular.
