It hasn't been posted yet...but the USWNT v. Japan game had an 8.6 rating.

    Compare:
    Giants/Rangers World Series: 8.4
    British Open: 2.6

Simply saying, Han Solo is both fictitious and from the past. "A LONG TIME AGO, in a galaxy far, far away..."

haha well depends on how you look at it. there is no number year given. i see it as we are in the future hearing a story about the past(which is still the future to the present day us)

Second largest ratings for a women's soccer game next to only the USA vs China in the '99 World Cup finals. I'm seeing ratings coming from patriotism, not the actual game of soccer, JMO. I'm not discrediting soccer at all, because I don't care either way.

You are correct. But at the same time, the big soccer events have been garnering ratings that are beating out everything but the top 3 sports. The only ratings that arent doing very well are the MLS ones, but they are still improving yearly and so is the attendance. I wont argue the patriotism bit, because it is 100% correct. But the Euros, Confed Cup, World Cup(s), Gold Cup, etc have been beating out everything but the relative games (ie, playoffs) for baseball, basketball, and anything football.

Those tournaments DO have the USA in them in most cases, but the ratings are winning the battles for the other teams as well. Then you have the UEFA Champions League, and its ratings are dong very well on Fox Soccer Channel, and there is no USA there. Problem remains getting that buzz for the domestic MLS.

You want a world class athlete who is also a world class hottie? I give you champion surfer Alana Blanchard.

Agree. The women's soccer league is not succeeding at all.

I think Rovell tweeted that Solo and Morgan play on a team that plays its home games in a 1500 seat stadium.

Fact of the matter is, the WWC final still had higher ratings. Higher ratings equals more viewers...equals NEVER a bad thing for soccer.

Either way, it cannot be proven that the ratings are coming from "patriotism." While there may be some of that, I don't see the Olympics being pouring out tremendous ratings all the time.

I am one of those who don't really watch events based on "patriotism." If I don't like the sport/people I won't watch it. I am sure there are several of those viewers who can say the same thing. Even if there were a lot of "patriot" viewers, if the game attracted more viewers/participants to soccer...then ESPN and soccer wins...and so doesn't the sponsors.

No one in their right mind would say that the WPS is succeeding. That doesn't mean that women's international soccer isn't big. The crowds were even larger than professional basketball and even most regular season NCAA basketball games.

I should have known a 7 page thread about someone I had never heard of was a pissing match about something, but I'm glad I opened it anyway. Every few years I will see some hot soccer chick, and that is the only reason I remember that women actually play soccer.
