Getting a new phone in the next month

  • gorocks99
I'd love to hear if anyone has experiences with any of the following (likes, dislikes):

    HTC Evo
    Nexus S 4G
    Droid Charge
    HTC Thunderbolt
    LG Revolution

Any other phones I should look into? I'm on Sprint now but willing to switch to Verizon because of a discount I get through work.

The Droid3 is supposidly coming out in June for verizon. Not sure how much RAM it will have.
The DROID 3 should sport a 4-inch display with 960 x 540 qHD resolution, a dual-core processor, HDMI-out, and an 8-megapixel camera that’s presumably capable of recording HD video.

I would go with a Nexus S 4g but there will be some phone release in the short term you might want to check out. One would be the revamped HTC Evo 3D or whatever it is called. Personally, I might hold out for a Samsung Galaxy S II phone if it comes with LTE support on Verizon.

The correct answer is Droid Bionic.

Don't buy one until the Bionic and Photon have been released (which should be soon). Bionic is with Verizon, Photon with Sprint. You'll also want to check out the EVO 3D. It's got some crazy specs as well. One of those three should be your next phone.

Awesome, thanks. My contract is up on Sprint 7/24 so hopefully these will be out by then.

The two best phones out on the market right now are (1) the Droid Charge (Verizon) and (2) the Atrix (AT&T).

I can upgrade in about a week but I am waiting for the Bionic to come out. There is nothing wrong with the phone I have now so I don't mind.

The Droid 3 will probably come with Motoblur, which sucks dick.

I'd spring for a HTC phone.

I think Moto is trying to distance itself from that name (motoblur). From what I have seen in recent pictures, Motorola is getting better with their skin. Somehow you have to differentiate yourself in the crowded android phone market. However, it would be nice if they would just go ahead and unlock everything like LG and Samsung have. I see that Motorola has tried to shift the blame to the carriers and said they will unlock some phones later this year, I am waiting to see if this happens.

It looks like the droid 3 is more of the same in the droid lineup. Not that is a bad thing since there is a market for that type of phone. It just won't be my next phone and I am starting to have some doubts about the bionic.

Same here. I got it the day it was released but now the power button is sluggish. I have to push down really hard to get it to turn on. I resorted to using the track ball to wake the phone.

While we're on the topic of Sprint and phones.....any word if they are getting the new model iPhone? I think I'm ready to turn to the dark side. I'm eligible for an upgrade in August and I think I'm ditching the Blackberry.

Here's something from CNET today talking about advanced testing of the iPhone on Sprint's network: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-20070879-233/rumor-apple-doing-advanced-testing-for-sprint-iphone/?tag=mncol;posts

Yeah I'm going to have to see it and mess with it in person before I buy it but I don't think that will bother me. If so I will just get a different Droid.

I'm on Sprint and Verizon LTE is superior to Sprints 4G(wimax) but Sprint is in the process of revamping it's entire network and I'm starting to think Sprint is going to go forward with Wimax and LTE or both networks in the near future.....

I'm getting the EVO 3d(which is 4g, wimax) next week and I'm looking forward to Sprints network upgrades and my cheaper bill than when I tried the thunderbolt and the outrageous bill just for one line.

Blur has definitely changed quite a bit. The Droid X2 actually has the new version of Blur on it. It is not Blur like was seen on T-Mobile and AT&T phones. Instead, it runs more in the background and is much less intrusive. The new look (like the one on the X2) is a lot neater and cleaner than the Blur of the past...and I like it a lot more.

What is this Motoblur you speak of? I thought your company killed off that brand. :)

    BGR review of EVO 3d
It took a couple days for the HTC EVO 3D to grow on me — from the build and design, to the user interface, to the 3D aspect — but after spending a week with it, I can confidently say this is my favorite Sprint phone, hands down. The Motorola Photon 4G is interesting, and from what I saw I liked it a lot. The EVO 3D, however, offers a complete end-to-end Android experience with HTC’s Sense 3.0 UI, and coupled with improvements in every area over the original EVO 4G, plus the ability to capture and view 3D content, it makes for one hell of a compelling package.

So I have a family friend who's a high level manager for Verizon, and they told me that Apple came in and spoke to some of the Verizon representatives and informed them [a bit] about the new iPhone 5 release and supposedly they were told that it will NOT be 4G. Has anyone else heard/read this? Can you confirm?

It doesn't make sense to me why Apple would bother releasing a phone that will NOT be 4G. To me, that's just #Dumb.

I highly doubt a rep from Apple came and talked at all about the iPhone 5. But it's not crazy to think that it will be a 3G device and not 4G. Not every area has 4G coverage. So why would a customer want to purchase a 4G device that will only give them 3G speeds where they live? Battery life on the 4G phones at Verizon continues to be an issue. I personally would rather have a really good 3G device that lasts me all day instead of a 4G device that won't get me through lunch without needing charged up. And Verizon still is ironing out the kinks in the 4G network. Apple may want to wait until the network is stable and ready to handle the increased traffic that a 4G iPhone would bring.
