Tiernan's World Cup 2014 Alternate Thread

An NFL team can clinch early and play subs the rest of the season, lose them all, and still advance. So can a group stage team that clinches after 2 games and decides they don't care where they finish in their group.

There is already qualification for all these world games. You have to qualify to make the Olympic games.

Sure you can, but I bet the fans of that team wouldn't be acting like morons. High-fiving and cheering about losing their games in the qualifying rounds.

    Yay! We lost!

Lol mad because hockey is not as popular as soccer.
  • TedSheckler
lol, yea. I'm mad alright. Of course soccer is more popular. Most of the countries that play soccer don't have flushing toilets or running water. How are they ever going to fill and freeze an ice rink?
  • Laley23
Soccer is, at worst, JUST behind hockey in American popularity. It will overtake it within a few years, if it hasnt already.

As for the cheering of a loss, we wouldnt be cheering a loss if we were guaranteed a spot in the knockout rounds. Youd be mad you lost. If Hockey wasnt retarded and actually eliminated some teams from the group stage, everyone who lost and advanced based on another outcome would be drunk with joy, yourself included for the USA.

If these games were reversed, and we lost...then tied on a heartbreaking goal...then got a late winner to advance it would be looked at completely different. Its stupid, but true. Everyone plays everyone in the group, no one result is more important than the other.

You said it was dumb to lose and advance, yet, hockey which you like does the same fucking thing...at an even more retarded level.

The lack of functioning toilets and showers in Sochi disagree with this fail logic. Keep on failing though. Just admit you're mad that "your" sport is a niche sport that only Canadians and eastern Europeans truly give a fuck about. The NHL regular season and stiff thread will get less posts than the World Cup thread. LOL. Enjoy your "everyone gets a ribbon!!!" format.

No you don't "advance" in hockey after losing. Everyone plays the final rounds. The group play is to determine the seeding only. Apples and oranges.

And I would put soccer just in front of bowling in popularity.

Ahh yes. The true test of a sports popularity....the number of posts. It just means there are more soccer f@ggots on this shitty website than regular f@ggots.

Now you are just resorting to being retarded since you have no substance to back up your idiotic arguments. Congrats.

The three USA games all have better ratings than any NHL playoff game. Keep grasping little guy. More and more old ignorant dumb fucks like you are becoming obsolete. Soccer is very popular with 20-30 year olds and will continue to pass down that passion. You older guys become irrelevant by the year with your arguments. Keep fighting a losing battle. It's cute.

It's more popular because anybody can play soccer. Go grab a ball and kick it around. Fun! Nice socks, BTW.

People who live in grass shacks can't afford to play hockey.

This whole thread is trolling, but we all know you actually believe this shit, otherwise you wouldn't have tried to justify Olympic hockey's pathetic tournament regulations.

Again, the ratings in the US for the WC is much higher than any nhl playoff game. Cue your next reach.

I didn't bring up the Olympic hockey comparison. I only corrected the misinformed soccer players on this site.

Congrats, it takes a "once-every-four-years event" to pass hockey, baseball, and basketball in ratings. Talk to me next year when the MLS championship is getting more viewers than the Cup finals...you know if you want a proper comparison.
  • SportsAndLady
Ted has gone full retard. 5 years ago he'd have a bunch of idiots behind him, because soccer wasn't as popular. But now he just has thavoice and tiernan, because everyone else realized that soccer is actually a pretty cool sport and they now loosely follow it, especially the World Cup.

Sad sad man that Ted is.
  • Laley23
Im not incorrect. The World Cup group stage is creating seeding to the next round and it obviously benefits you to win your group. Same as in Olympic Hockey. The only difference is in Hockey everyone gets a ribbon and can keep going. In soccer, you actually have to do something...

Soccer has getting, on average, about 500 less people to their games then hockey. I bet they pass hockey this season. TV ratings arent even close. MLS isnt necessarily beating the NHL, but soccer ratings in general are.

You think there is a reason FOX/ESPN/NBC have all bid on various leagues and rights, including MLS, through the 2018 World Cup, yet, NHL is relegated to NBCSN and thats it?
  • TedSheckler
No not everyone thinks it's a cool sport. The civilized don't care for it. It's only more popular now because of all the illegal flooding over the border. Thanks, Obama.

And I've always been a retard, so you're wrong there.
  • TedSheckler
Shouldn't you guys be discussing what kweer scarf you're going to wear for the next game?

So you, thavoice, and tiernan are civilized and the rest of us aren't. Got it.
  • DeyDurkie5
I like hockey and not soccer so that makes me less of a ****** when in reality your the biggest ****** of them all for arguing personal opinions of a sport on this "shitty" website.

Come on ted, if your gonna troll at least get to sleepers level. The shit you are saying isn't original in the least. We get it, people hate soccer. Boo hoo. We've heard it all before. Until you can come up with something original stop trying so hard to be the cool kid on a troll thread on a "shitty" website.
  • TedSheckler
Never claimed to be the cool kid. I am quite retarded, as stated.

    D'oh, you got me...

SportsAndLady;1630987 wrote:So you, thavoice, and tiernan are civilized and the rest of us aren't. Got it.
Never said I was civilized because I am not a soccer fan.
The game just bores the fuck outta me. Tried watching it when the US hosted it and gave it a fair shake but still came away unimpressed.
I was just simply stating that one of the main reasons it is the most popular sport world wide is because of how cheap it is to play and anyone can pretty much do it.
I have seen grown adults who were are absolutely worthless throwing a football or playing basketball when we do that for PT sometimes, but when we play soccer at times everyone seems like they can do it because everyone can run and kick pretty much.

More power to those who enjoy it. I am not one of them.
