You're arguing that it's good parenting to let an eight year old watch PG-13 movies.

Isn't your wife in education? Go ask her what she thinks about it. I'm not saying it's going to ruin him for life, mind you, but I'm curious as to her thoughts. Anyone's thoughts, actually, who deals with child development professionally.

In your head, thats what we are arguing.
In reality, nobody said it was "good" parenting. We said it doesn't make you a bad parent, it's not going to ruin your child, and he's not going to grow up to be a Corky just because he watched fucking Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

I watched Dumb and Dumber repeatedly before I was 11, Days of Thunder when I was 6 or 7, and The Breakfast Club before I was 8(rated R!!!!). Can't wait to tell my parents they screwed up. No wonder I turned out like Bender.

    Your kids will be retarded.

Guess who else is in education?

Good parenting involves doing only things that help your child's development, not letting them have or do things that probably won't hurt them.

    Some get it, some don't.
Where do "You're Mom" jokes rank in the list of things that help a child's development?

Again, what rule does it break?

Perfect. Go ask your child's principal if you can bring in the AV series or any other PG13 movie on DVD to show your son's class. Or, don't because we both know the answer will be "no".

Please follow the implied instructions as well as the explicit ones. Ask I92 if you can't determine what that means - he's in the education business, you know.

He won't let me bring in peanuts to school either....are those going to ruin my child?

Thanks for ignoring my question to you.

They will if he's allergic, along with multiple other children who might be allergic. It's a necessary rule, IMO.

It's interesting that you care enough for your child to follow certain rules of the school he attends AT school, but then go home and ignore them completely. Once again, why wouldn't they permit you to show third graders a PG13 movie at school or even at an out-of-school function? Are there any schools in the United States that would allow it?

    Still ignoring my question eh?

    "ignore them completely" you say?

What is your purpose on this thread? You know 1 thing about my kid and you assume everything else. You ignore that he gave an above grade level response on the worksheet. You ignored everything else I said he has done. He's a top of the class student and one of the nicest kids you'll ever run into....and regardless of my "allowing him to watch non-age appropriate material, eat too much junk and I'm a little hard on him at times"...am a pretty good parent.

....and my senior daughter, who is tied atop her class of 195 students agrees.

I've assumed NOTHING else. I'm saying it's inappropriate to let an eight yr old watch a PG13 movie. Almost all educated people would agree with me, including those who run the schools; both public and private. I'm not sure what's so confusing about what I'm saying. If your real problem is that you think I'm a jerk for calling you out about it, then say that. Don't tell me that you think it's appropriate or all the other good things your son does despite him watching inappropriate movies. Which, btw, I think is great for him/you. His accomplishments, I mean. But, that was never my point. Nor was my kid's age.

It can be bad.....especially if other facets are shitty. As a parent I help see that he doesn't have too many potentially negative experiences with such stuff. He's good to go.

    Go Steelers!

I'd guess most that agree with you are just too strict asshole parents that try to rule their kids with an iron fist. Who will ultimately fail at parenting because their kids will grow up to hate them because they weren't allowed to enjoy their childhood.

SVF, please tell me that you don't actually have kids, and that you're just busting our chops....please???

She works in the college counseling office of a private schools. She thinks you're being ridiculous. Guess we are destined to have shitty kids. Oh well, the world needs janitors and garbage collectors.

    Please don't.

However, you won't let your eight-year old son or daughter watch PG13 movies because, as far as I know, you're not an idiot.

Write it down and date it.

I'm sure I will. PG-13 movies are harmless.
