Vegas shooting thead

saltoSince the general thread about the shooting is only for everyone to discuss shock and sadness, here we can discuss the political aspects of the shooting.

saltoShould Stephen Paddock be considered a terrorist?

Did he carry out this shooting for political aims? Does the label even matter? If he's considered a terrorist, what changes?salto;1874379 wrote:Should Stephen Paddock be considered a terrorist?
Terrorism:the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. -
queencitybuckeyeUntil we find out that the fully-automatic weapons this POS had were legally-owned (I'd give 20-1 that they are not), anyone who goes on the air and uses the term "common sense gun control" (and they will) is gleefully dancing on the graves of the victims.

It's the rhetoric that dumbass puppets like said eat up. I will also wait for the details, but my money is on the weapons he used were not legal considering the damage he did in so little time.queencitybuckeye;1874387 wrote:Until we find out that the fully-automatic weapons this POS had were legally-owned (I'd give 20-1 that they are not), anyone who goes on the air and uses the term "common sense gun control" (and they will) is gleefully dancing on the graves of the victims.
Also taking this from the other thread:
I don't want to argue about taxpayers paying for this, but mental health is never talked about when this shit happens. I remember reading a few months ago, that 90% of mass shooters were prescribed SSRIs or stopped taking them. My generation (millennials) were the first to be prescribed this shit from childhood and I think we are seeing the fucked up side effects.SQ;1874382 wrote:This is the obvious answer. There's too many guns for any ban or regulation to be effective at this point. The problem is our country decided decades ago we don't want to pay for mental health anymore. Maybe we'll see the light. It won't just help gun violence, but drug epidemic too. -

Yea, that is what I'm asking. What changes is knowing if he was just a disgruntled nut-job who was recently fired (whatever) or if actually a terrorist act, political reasons.justincredible;1874386 wrote:Did he carry out this shooting for political aims? Terrorism:
Don't you want to know why he did it? -

Would the reason make me feel more or less safe going forward? Not really.salto;1874395 wrote:Yea, that is what I'm asking. What changes is knowing if he was just a disgruntled nut-job who was recently fired (whatever) or if actually a terrorist act, political reasons.

Lets also discuss how easy it is for mentally ill people to legally obtain gun licenses. -

Lets face it; if it's actually a terrorist act or just a nut job, another mass shooting will happen.queencitybuckeye;1874396 wrote:Would the reason make me feel more or less safe going forward? Not really. -

One for fully-automatic weapons? Very difficult.salto;1874397 wrote:You'll wait for the details, but still offer your opinion. Got it, thanks.

Don't be naive. Anyone with some basic tools can turn a semi auto rifle, like the AR 15, into full auto. They also legally sell bump stops, which turns semi-auto into a (nearly) full auto speed of shot.queencitybuckeye;1874402 wrote:One for fully-automatic weapons? Very difficult.
Go 07:00 minutes into video. Does that sound almost full auto speed to you?

So wait, you're telling me there are means to make things illegal or get our hands on things that are illegal? -

like_thatI want to hear said's solution since there are already laws in place to prevent tragedies like this from happening.

and doing so is as illegal as buying one without the proper license. Quit changing the subject. The problem is lack of laws or it is not. The answer is not in serious dispute.salto;1874405 wrote:Don't be naive. Anyone with some basic tools can turn a semi auto rifle, like the AR 15, into full auto. -
saltoActive/retired military within the past six years do not have to take CC classes. You can be honorable discharged and have PTSD.

Yes, which makes the idea of trying to solve the problem with prohibition laughable, as that method has worked zero times in the history of humanity.like_that;1874407 wrote:So wait, you're telling me there are means to make things illegal or get our hands on things that are illegal? -

Please link for me where bump stops are illegal in Ohio. People who raise problems without a clue to solutions tend to be pretty worthless. Other than blowing the Jordan boys, do you add any value IRL?salto;1874415 wrote:I never said I had a solution but there is a problem. Don't you agree? -

Like I originally said, bump stops are damn near full auto speed. If you're arguing against that, you're an idiot.queencitybuckeye;1874417 wrote:No need, seen them heard them. My answer is correct.
