Unfortunately, all sanctions really do is starve people. Sanctions only work (if ever) when dealing with highly weaponized stuff only made by a handful of companies from a handful of countries.

I seem to recall you mocking Obama's sanctions on Russia in response to Ukraine? What makes this different?

Not sure I said it was different. Not sure I made any comment on the news brief I posted.

Of course, if you starve an entire nation to death before they launch nuclear war against the world, maybe that's good.

Russia Invsded Ukraine and took part of the country and the warm weather port in Crimea. In Syria he said chemical weapons use would be his line in the sand but did nothing. He called Isis a jv team and allowed them to flourish by doing nothing andit took expending more troops and resources into Iraq in allowing the jv squad graduate to college level tactics.

NoKo trump trying to talk big and furious to lil Kim along with the sanctions. Trump has proven he will take the fight to enemies while Obama put the collective tails between the military legs and allowed them to grow.

Sanctions on NoKo won't work but other than that here is not much more non military to do. Getting China to go along with it is Huge and will hurt them more. Trump I talking big to them but has backed it up in other hot spots around the world.

So what is the difference between Obama and trump sanctions? Trump has proven he is willing to fight. Obama showed he wasn't willing to so sanctions wpuldnt work because there is no fear of repercussions

Yup. No doubt we are now better off dumbing down our intellect.

Doubtful the people pressing the launch buttons are the ones starving.

    He has?

All Trump has done so far is the typical bully talk that no one takes seriously or credibly. That's actually what concerns me - not that Trump is going to provoke something with his idiotspeak, but that he's going to do something overly aggressive to try to establish credibility.

Other than the 3rd grade rhetoric, what is actually different with Trump's foreign policy from his predecessors thus far? I say a big fat nothing.

Well, maybe you missed the news today.

Hard sanctions are nearly impossible with North Korea and bad Chinese firms because they just easily create new ones to get around them. In terms of ships, they just fly different flags and change the name on them, easy fix.
Maybe these will be different, but we saw in the Bush years, hard sanctions don't do shit.

Also, I still don't see how this persuades the North to stop what they are doing? A good portion of their nuclear and missile programs are internal now, so this may not cripple them.
    We'll see I guess.
I was actually expecting this move several months ago when they tested the ICBM.

When have sanctions ever actually worked? It was decades with Cuba and Castro never relented. OK, they never got nukes but NK did and Iran is almost there.

I think you hit the major nail on the head - sanctions don't and can't work until you can effectively police and enforce violators. But China, Russia - even France - don't really play ball because, as Trump would say, no one is going to have their country's self-interest take a back seat.

At least Trump is doing something....regardless if it ends up being a nothing burger......his so called "bully" talk is better than whatever Obama was saying.

THe left can spin it the way they want.......its likely a lose lose with them regardless but at least the US doesnt look like pussies.

Talk is talk. So far his accomplishments perfectly mirror Obama's, which is to say one EO undoing another EO.

Explain how Donald's "bully" talk is better "than whatever Obama was saying", as you say. What speeches in particular are you talking about?

USA maybe doesn't look like pussies, it looks like American redneck racist idiots.

Or the right can spin it, in your case.

When Obama imposed similar financial sanctions against Russia, the left was like "fantastic...this is going to cripple Russia". The right was like "mehhhh". Now Trump does it with NK, and the right and left predictably flip-flop.

And the Russia sanctions didn't do squat.

What do you mean? Trump is doing the EXACT same things, tough talk backed by useless sanctions.

Remember when Bush labeled Iran, NK and Iraq as the "axis of evil" - Trump WISHES he could come up with something as bold and tough as that.

Yes. Ramped up the fight vs Isis in iraq. Increased the campaign in afghanistan. After the chemical attack on Syria he bombed the airfields and expanded that fight. Increased attacks and authorities to strike more against al shabaab in somalia.

Gotten involved in a verbal slap fight with a dictator? I mean, a person can listen to "rocket man vs. dotard" shit all day, but all it really shows is two hilariously immature adults who not-so-hilariously have way too much say in how their countries are run.

Everyone liked to make fun of W for being an idiot. Trump has really taken that as a challenge. "They are really really bad men."
