Fake News

Gotta admit, I just figured they'd kind of slither away from the collusion story and never saw it going this direction. The only problem with the above logic is it can only happen if you don't properly source your stories.....sooooooo you can't be "discredited" but rather exposed as being of a state lacking credibility.
I actually watched that segment a little bit ago online, all 20 mins.
It wasn't actually that bad. She said that they consulted with former intel officials and all stated the documents were fake. She went into the evidence as to how they determined they were fake and did not go into the specifics about what the documents said. The real point was that the news media needs to do their due diligence on reporting.

She actually did her job there. Got a piece of intel, vetted it, and decided to not run with it, instead using it as a case for others.
Seems like we need more of that now a days.

Wow what a whining, ignorant bitch. And 8+ minute segment (which seems rather rare) where she's arguing excuse after excuse while he tells her it's not news and stop wasting your time...but she can't accept that and insists on blaming Trump for their fuck-ups.

CNN continued to embarrass themselves and had "journalists" pushing that the Poland President's wife didn't shake Trump's hand, and other news sources pretending they don't know what "The West" is (or that it's racist to use it). The left has only themselves to blame for the way election turned out. Quit making shit up AND focusing on dumb shit if you want to be taken seriously. And quit praising leaders of large fringe groups like Linda Sarsour and Shaun White.

I don't disagree, but should the media need a lecture or warning from Rachel Maddow on how to do its job? Again, this is a pretty obvious dog whistle because there's really no other reason to run the story - I mean, since when is getting a fake scoop news?

Well, according to the people on here and others, yes. Apparently a refresh on journalistic skills and reporting 101 is needed.
The only reason to run the story is to say hey guys, don't get duped like CNN or Vice.

I would agree on most on here that is the sad state of affairs for the large outlets.

    Good advice ignored.
Semi-related, my friend is working on the campaign for the guy running against Taylor. Apparently his district is one that the DNC is targeting. He won his seat with 63% of the vote in November.

But I'm not really sure they care - ratings and attacking Trump is what they seem to care about. They don't need a refresher, they need accountability.

Maddow is saying, almost verbatim "the REAL STORY here" is sophisticated [Trump officials/supporters] trying to dupe the media in order to discredit it. The whole point is Maddow trying to say they're doing their job, but being deliberately undermined by the Deep Trumpsters.

It's a dog whistle, not a lecture or a warning. Little more than a backhanded apology for sucking at their job.

What is also crazy is that CNN has no reason to stop lying and making up claims. They are so bad that they lose to shows like Nick-at-Nite in primetime yet they still had their largest 2nd quarter ever. That means they were that much worse before and that the Trump bashing and fake news is actually growing them viewers.

A lot of similarities between Fascism and Tyranny. It's time for the minutemen!

So, can anyone watch CNN anymore? I just now had it on for a few minutes (less than 10 minutes) and just couldn't take it and turned the channel. I just can't help but wonder what happened to them. Is it the owner? Is it the merger that is in process? Have they swung so far to the left as to be unrecognizable compared to what they once were? Is it Trump Derangement Syndrome? Would this have happened with any other person who won the Presidency (Johnson, Sanders, Clinton, Rubio, Kasich, etc.)?
Just... what in the world is going on with them?

CNN reached their high point during the first Gulf War in 1991. They got a lot of notoriety then for having a couple of guys in Baghdad when the invasion started. I remember watching it for all of the latest goings on during that short war. Since then it has spent 25 years slowly circling the drain.

What is interesting to me though is the outrage the right has at CNN. If the network is so irrelevant - which I think it is - why all of the constant focus on it and the associated outrage? Also, while CNN is a decided left leaning network, why does that piss people on the right off so much. Fox News is their version of the same thing.

I guess my point is: if you don't like CNN, why worry about it? It's a mess and doesn't seem to need any help staying this way.

CNN is a bush league cable station. It's ultimate failure would cause some office space to open up in downtown Atlanta. Trump is president. His ultimate failure could affect us all.

I am well aware of CNN's history, as I'm not as young as many people on this forum. However, even though CNN was never "great", it was good. And to witness such a sharp veer off the road, within a year, is astonishing IMO. I guess I just can't get used to such a 180.

That didn't happen with the two worst president Carter and Obama so the doom and gloom ultimate failure mentality is weak.

That was never the point I was making. My point was that CNN is irrelevant, so why worry about it.

Wait a minute....WaPo wrote an article accusing Fox News of fake news or lying because.....they made the mistake of not distinguishing between "top secret" and "secret", even though leaking classified info (which appears to be the case) is more than enough for jail?

    Pretty much.
