You're not even addressing the point I intended to make. As such, I'm sure I was too brief.

Whether we're artificially inflating confidence through governmental force (the housing crisis) or cutting government revenue without significantly cutting government spending, you're still inflating the market with air, and not substance.

Tax cuts, in general, are a fundamental element of individual freedom. You won't hear me complain about them, but I'm also not going to ignore the latter half of that equation: the federal debt and additional federal expenses (such as another military conflict). In order for either of them to work in the long run, both have to be addressed.

But currently, they're not, and if that continues, it WILL come home to roost.

As long as the jackasses in BIG government (of either party) continue to falsely claim that the majority of the budget is off-limits, and they can only deal with the minute segment called discretionary spending, the problem will only worsen. We have massive spending that must be cut, or at a bare minimum frozen for at least 5 years until our revenues exceed our expenditures. The spending cuts must occur because most certainly interest are going to rise and when they do the federal budget is going to be crippled with interest on the debt.

If no one is going to deal with the problem then economic growth is the ONLY remaining way to get balanced and start reducing the debt, and that is why you have to cut taxes and regulations.

The New York Times (4/26, Rappeport, Davis, Subscription Publication) reports “President Trump on Wednesday proposed sharp reductions in both individual and corporate income tax rates, reducing the number of individual income tax brackets to three – 10 percent, 25 percent and 35 percent.” The Times adds that Trump’s plan would “double the standard deduction,” eliminate most itemized deductions “but would leave in place the popular deductions for mortgage interest and charitable contributions,” and would repeal “the estate tax and the alternative minimum tax.”

The Washington Times (4/26, Miller) reports that National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, who presented the plan to reporters, called it a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to do something really big.” The Times quotes National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons saying, “President Trump has listened to those who feel they work harder today for less or are out of a job.” He added, “The president delivered on his commitment to put the force of the White House behind policies that will grow the manufacturing economy in the United States and raise standards of living for everyone in our country.”

In his statement, Timmons also pointed out the importance of “modernizing our tax code and making it more competitive,” and he emphasized that “manufacturers are committed to working with the administration and Congress to ensure the best possible pro-growth tax reform plan reaches President Trump’s desk. The NAM has waited decades for tax reform, and the need is more urgent than ever.”

The Detroit Free Press (4/26, Snavely) reports “automakers welcomed President Donald Trump’s proposal to drastically cut corporate taxes on Wednesday,” and called the proposed corporate tax reduction “welcome news for corporations doing business in the U.S. that have long complained that America’s corporate tax rate is among the highest in the world.”

    Majestic.

[h=3]Companies “Spending Massively” On US Manufacturing.[/h]Philly (PA) (5/4, Rittenhouse) reports that several companies are “spending massively to invest in US manufacturing.” Under Armour has opened “a 35,000-square-foot product-innovation center, called ‘UA Lighthouse,’” in Baltimore Maryland. Adidas “announced in March it will open a second ‘Speedfactory’ in Atlanta.” Tesla “revealed in its 2016 earnings report its plans to possibly open three more of its massive Gigafactory plants.” Amazon “said it plans to create 30,000 part-time positions and 100,000 full-time jobs this year while it rapidly grows its warehouse base.” Walmart “has made a whopping $250 billion commitment to boost manufacturing in the U.S. through 2023,” Philly (PA) adds.
[h=3]Apple CEO Cook Explains Value Of $1B Investment In Advanced Manufacturing.[/h]Wired (5/4) reports that in an interview with CNBC, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained his companies decision to launch “a $1 billion fund to invest in advanced manufacturing companies in the United States.” Cook said by doing so Apple “can be the ripple in the pond,” and added that “those manufacturing jobs create jobs around them.” Wired says of Cook’s statement, “That’s true,” and adds that “according to the National Association of Manufacturers, for every $1 invested in manufacturing, $1.81 is injected back into the economy.” Wired quotes NAM Director of Innovation Policy Brian Raymond saying “When you talk about why this matters, not only is it the billion investment, but the multiplier effect around it.” Raymond characterizes the Apple investment as “a long-term, future play,” adding that “if it’s an investment around advanced manufacturing, integrating technology into products and shop floors, it should be beneficial across the board.” Raymond further notes that “manufacturing is now digital,” and therefore “it is a different set of skills.” The Wired article also states that “a recent survey conducted by NAM found that while manufacturers see tremendous opportunity in advanced manufacturing, 40 percent say the skills gap is the chief barrier to taking advantage of that opportunity.”

[h=3]Toyota Announces Two Michigan Expansions Totaling $154M.[/h]The Detroit Free Press (5/4, Snavely) reports that “Toyota is collectively spending $154 million to expand its York Township and Ann Arbor Township R&D centers.” The Free Press adds that “the Japanese automaker unveiled a 135,000-square-foot expansion of its research and development center in York Township on Thursday,” and is also “spending about $28 million to expand its nearby operations in Ann Arbor Township so the automaker can develop more of the engines and automatic transmissions for vehicles designed and manufactured in North America.” Automotive News (5/4, Truett) reports that “1,600 employees are working at the revamped center and that further expansion is possible.”

Of course, I've schooled a few on this subject over the years...

While it's true the POTUS has limited real impact here, both Obama and Trump promote and implement policies that are well to the left and right of where more rational, responsible people would fall. Obama's policies WERE anti-growth, and many of Trump's policies promise illusory stimulus.

So there is low-hanging fruit for Trump (or any non-leftist)....but don't go eating the rotten shit that's already fallen from the tree. Trump can, quite literally, be a reckless idiot and STILL be better than Obama, simply by not being an ignorant idealogue.

I don't disagree with any of this. Obama's policies, as a whole, were ludicrous in an economic sense.

Moreover, I'm not suggesting he couldn't accidentally fall into being functionally better, but there's a difference between being "better" and being "good," and I'd be hard-pressed to say someone who ends up being nominally better from a functional standpoint is "winning," particularly when the evidence is something over which he has a rather limited influence (not to mention the fact that sniping one-off instances amounts to presenting the same credibility as anecdotal evidence).
