Lol....Why would I do that. Me and my wife are products of it and in addition, doing do would impact my children and maybe some day grandchildren.isadore;1695359 wrote:yours is just a continuing attempt to undermine public education.
Can you help me better understand the rational behind asking middle class taxpayers to pay for those who are willing and able to do so on their own? -

That might be your definition but public education doesn't have to be paid for in full for all to still be public education.isadore;1695361 wrote:for public education to be "public" it must be open for all and paid for by tax revenue of the citizenry. -

why should middle class folks pay for rich kids to go to elementary and secondary school? Public education is funded by tax dollars of the citizenry to provide that service to all. Post secondary education should be part of public education.Con_Alma;1695362 wrote:Lol....Why would I do that. and a major problem in state education today is the fact that tax contribution to state schools is diminishing so tuitions rises.Con_Alma;1695363 wrote:That might be your definition but public education doesn't have to be paid for in full for all to still be public education. -

That's a good question. I think the answer is because it a basic level of education. I don't think college level services are deemed by society to be a basic level of services.isadore;1695366 wrote:why should middle class folks pay for rich kids to go to elementary and secondary school? Didn't we speak of this already when you brought up the police and private security services? -

I paid for mine, and you should pay for yours. So where's my free 2 years of tuition - I want reparations!!! Perhaps after you've made me whole I will then be able to afford to contribute toward your degree.isadore;1695331 wrote:you got yours, screw the rest. Post secondary education should be a basic right. Of course it is hardly a surprise, you would oppose granting them that right. In the past you would have denied every extension of education to the oppressed and disadvantaged.
Or you only tax people currently 20 and going forward such that the program is ultimately funded by people receiving the benefits (sort of like social security). -

and folks like you once said that about primary education, secondary education, police and fire protection.Con_Alma;1695368 wrote:That's a good question. Our primary education system doesn't even fit that definition. My kids had to pay "fees". Lets fix that first.isadore;1695370 wrote:Merriam Webster- public school

Here's another definition. seems there's some debate with regards to what it exactly is!
[h=2]http://www.thefreedictionary.com/public+schoolpublic school[/h]n.1. An elementary or secondary school in the United States supported by public funds and providing free education for children of a community or district.
Notice is states elementary or secondary. -

It's the case. We don't currently provide free post secondary education to everybody.
Why should we charge the middle class taxes to pay for those who are able and willing to do so? -

there should be no fees, there should be no pay to play. Hey that definition 100 years ago with have been for elementary education but it evolved, and now it is taking the next natural step to post secondary education.Con_Alma;1695376 wrote:Our primary education system doesn't even fit that definition. nope...people receiving the benefit should fund that benefit. That is the essence of social insurance.isadore;1695375 wrote:tsk, tsk, tsk, screw those in need. Hardly surprise from those that have.
You can't whine about being screwed when you're seeking to stick people who already paid their own way with the bill. -

the same argument could have been made in the not so distant past against providing secondary education. society has advanced in the educational needs of the citizen.Con_Alma;1695383 wrote:Where is it stated as a basic right to receive "free" collegiate level services? -

education is not a social insurance. At one time people who paid to go to elementary school got stuck to pay for public education. Later those who paid to go to secondary school got stuck paying for the secondary education of others. Post secondary education has become a right like elementary and secondary education.gut;1695385 wrote:nope...people receiving the benefit should fund that benefit.
