The teams have equal opportunity, but it does not produce equal results. Our school system works the same way. Every student is guaranteed 13 years of free education, just like every team is guaranteed 16 games. If a student works hard over those 13, he/she will have the opportunity to attend college through scholarships, grants, financial aid, part-time jobs, etc. It is a reward for a level of excellence over an extended period of time. Most successful people in this country have made their own fortune by having the ability to provide a product or service that people will are willing to pay for. You act like everyone who is wealthy just inherited that money. That is not the case. A Fidelity study shows that 86% of millionaires are self-made http://www.fidelity.com/inside-fidelity/individual-investing/fidelity-2012-millionaire-outlookisadore;1574184 wrote:gosh a ruddies lets look at America's most successful sport, professional football in this SuperBowl week.

Footy, come on man, for one don't claim to be superior in math and then list your best areas as statistics.Footwedge;1574208 wrote:You want to relive history there Clem? The playoff thread had nothing to do with math. It had everything to do with me forgetting about Baltimore when deciphering the playoff scenario.. Again, I'll put up my math skills...especially percentages, probability and statistics with anyone here. And btw, you think it's right that you pay zero federal taxes just because you have 4 kids? Only a flaming liberal could justify that for an excuse to avoid paying federal taxes.
Statistics has got to be the easiest mathematical field. The rest of us math majors and engineering majors laughed at how easy and boring statistics classes were.
I am not talking about basic statistics that some other majors fill in their math requirements with either. I am talking senior level applied statistics that I had to take with my Applied Math degree.
Statistics is by far the easiest math field, and it isn't even close.
What's next, are you the best on this thread at counting to 16? Oh wait, you already messed that up in the Breowns are going to make the playoffs thread. -

All the teams are provided large amounts of money from tv contracts and licensing by the league and the poorest teams are allowed first pick of the new players. All done to try to make the games competitive. To do anything comparative to our social structure would required overwhelming amounts of money and opportunities be provided freely to the lower income groups to the extent their individual wealth would be comparative to the top quintiles.
Many students work hard and do not have the opportunities you list. If you would ever read the information provided on this thread, you would understand the lower quintiles have diminishing incomes, little of economic value and for most small if any chance at opportunity. And you would see for all your millionaire BS that the US has one of the lowest rates of social upward mobility of developed nations of the world. -

We spend overwhelming amounts amount of money to give the poor a free home, free food, free medical care, free utilities, free education, free cell phones, etc. Those who choose to use all of those free resources wisely, have a productive, successful life.isadore;1574546 wrote: To do anything comparative to our social structure would required overwhelming amounts of money and opportunities be provided freely to the lower income groups . -

Far from overwhelming, minimal at best. And they are cutting food stamps, lets save you a few bucks by taking the food from a poor kid, Especially as the incomes of the poor decline.Al Bundy;1574569 wrote:We spend overwhelming amounts amount of money to give the poor a free home, free food, free medical care, free utilities, free education, free cell phones, etc. Those who choose to use all of those free resources wisely, have a productive, successful life.
LOL k-12 is used the bulk of Americans. As for post secondary the stats show rich enrollment in colleges is expanding, poor enrollment is stagnating. Both outcomes are because of funds. -

College graduation rates have increased sharply for wealthy students but stagnated for low-income students. College graduation rates have increased dramatically over the past few decades, but most of these increases have been achieved by high-income Americans. Figure 7 shows the change in graduation rates for individuals born between 1961 and 1964 and those born between 1979 and 1982. The graduation rates are reported separately for children in each quartile of the income distribution.wkfan;1574729 wrote:Link, please.
In every income quartile, the proportion graduating from college increased, but the size of that increase varied considerably. While the highest income quartile saw an 18 percentage-point increase in the graduation rate between these birth cohorts, the lowest income quartile saw only a 4 percentage-point increase.
This graduation-rate gap may have important implications for social mobility and inequality. Given the importance of a college degree in today’s labor market, rising disparities in college completion portend rising disparities in outcomes in the future.

Maybe if irresponsible idiots were taught that society is no longer going to pay for their welfare and their kid's welfare, they would stop having children they cannot afford to raise.
WHERE THE FUCK IS PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN ALL OF THIS !!! ANSWER THE QUESTION!! -

If parents work hard and build a nice life for their families, their children are more likely to work hard and earn a college degree. Who ever would have imagined that? :rolleyes:isadore;1574855 wrote:College graduation rates have increased sharply for wealthy students but stagnated for low-income students. For many in the lower quintiles those opportunities are no longer there. We spend about $150,000 per student in this country on a free education from K-12. If a student takes school seriously and does well there are many opportunities to go to college for little or no money. Here is a link that has pages of full scholarships that are merit based. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships.htmlisadore;1574890 wrote:For many in the lower quintiles those opportunities are no longer there. Granted, these are not for the kid that screws around and gets a 2.5 gpa with a 21 ACT, but that kid has already wasted 13 years of free education, why do you think he will make any better use of four more free years? -

Gosh a ruddy you do not understand the total purpose for the free post secondary program. It is not just to help Will Hunting get into MIT. It is there to make sure poor kids who want to, can get a real chance to get an academic education But it is more than that, it is there to help the kid with a 2.5 gpa get the advanced technical or mechanical training that will lead to a well paying job. Or the worker who has been laid off after working for years and now needs new training for the new job market. That is also post secondary education. Of course you believe they should suffer for not being born a genius or for getting laid off.Al Bundy;1574899 wrote:We spend about $150,000 per student in this country on a free education from K-12. Belly35I like rich. I've been poor, hungry wanting more but settled for less. My mom told me, only you can change your life, change your future and change peoples opinion of you. Only you can do this, not the government, not cops, not the laws, not your boss and not me.
I didn't grow up wanting to be poor, entitlement or on welfare but I was. I'm thankful for that lesson but saw others settle for want was less than what they where worth. Government aid has its place but should never be a life style for any anyone, limit the aid and dependency will create less poor and more wealth.
Obama talks of hard work, dedication and individual prosperity but in the same breath bashes what those value will create wealth.
I work and earn for my family and myself respect... Not for the government to take... It not theirs to take.
Don't ask what the rich can do for you, but ask what you can do for yourself wealth. -
