Can we just shut the government down already?

Since 2000, household incomes have been roughly flat while federal spending has increased @ 8% per year. That is far in excess of inflation/gdp growth and the source of the problem as Clinton left a roughly balanced budget. That shrinking tax base is actually a bigger problem than the rates, but make no mistake the bulk of it is govt has grown far faster the past decade than the economy.

It's borderline treasonous to add another massive entitlement when you've been running deficits averaging over $1T+ the past 5 years.

It's not apples to oranges. You clearly didn't even have your facts right. You made a foolish statement and have continued to look foolish attempting to backpedal. Just let it go.

Much like Reid, Pelosi and a bunch of left-wing liberals. The Tea Party truly fits right in with Washington.

History has pretty much shown the "radical rhetoric" is needed to move the moderates to action.

Moderates, needed to win Senate seats, are killing the R's.
I assume the events of this week will change the dynamic, but the fact remains that every set of numbers prior pointed to a 50/50 chance or better for the GOP to take the senate....including winning a significant majority of independents.

Fortunately that will be a year away. People forget so easily this day and age.

I tell you what, I watch the news here and there, but being furloughed has allowed me to watch a good chunk of news the last 4 days and it is fucking unbearable. Cable news has easily ruined politics.

You have these **** anchors on CNN throwing softball questions to dems, but then a republican is on, instead of interviewing them, they end up debating them. Of course they get their subtle cheap shot when they end the interview/segment. When will these fuck heads be held accountable?

I used to think that when people stopped watching the fuck heads the market would dictate that they change their ways if they want to have any market share and be viable. CNN and PMSNBC get blasted 24/7 by Fox News and yet...they're still here. Clearly, Fox can negoitiate much more profitable ad rates since they have a demonstrably much larger audience. How does CNN and The Ed Schultz Network stay in business when they're getting pummelled by Fox?

I know the answer, but I can't believe certain people and corporations have endless bank accounts. At some point, the red ink has to have an influence.

    Harry Reid: "Republicans are anarchists"

I think he may be the most despicable senator to ever hold office.

If I am the republicans I add a new negotiating demand, that he step down as 'leader', or we will NEVER sign a CR.

    Fuck you, dingy Harry !!

Let's not be silly geese. Just because it came out yesterday that Fox's Red Eye that's on at 3AM has better ratings than Piers Morgan doesn't mean CNN is on the red.

Happy 100th Birthday to the Income Tax.

In 1913, the tax code consisted of 400 pages.

By 2012, the tax code was 73,608 pages.

At least the lobbyists have gotten their money's worth.

The job was clearly too big for a community agitator. Pray we never elect another one.

I mean, I'm just completely shocked that teamster small-ball is an absolute failure in Washington politics.

Fixed it, so you didn't sound entitled.

Seriously? Although people get their news from Colbert and Jon Stewart, so maybe it's not that surprising as Red Eye is basically the same just not as funny (though much funnier than Maher).

Lockheed Martin says it will furlough 3,000 employees on Monday due to the government shutdown.

The big defense contractor said Friday that the number of employees put on furlough will increase weekly if the shutdown continues.

Lockheed says the furloughs include employees who are unable to work because the government facility where they perform their work is closed, those whose work requires a government inspection that cannot be completed or the company has received a stop work order.
This is the kind of stuff that will bring the shutdown to an end. The more people that are directly affected, the higher the likelihood Congress gets something done.

    1. I was thinking you have never been right on here. Yet, you still rail on, kudos to you.
    2. It was the R's who shut it down. As such, do not complain one bit about what is and what is not shutdown.
Want to fix it, open the Government back up, then deal with the issues. But, in the meantime, stop.

Yep. But, nevermind people were saying that before the damn thing happened.
This could seriously kill some small contractors who depend on just a few contracts.
But, go ahead and shut it down for some insane stupid reason that makes little sense in the long run.

They've offered to pass resolutions to fund every aspect of govt except Obamacare.

And since the Senate has never passed a budget, CR's is EXACTLY how we've operated for 5 years. House controls the power of the purse. The Dems are shutting the govt down to force Repubs to fund Obamakare.

They've even offered to delay it a year, which seems entirely sensible. Unless you're a Democrat. And unless you're Obama picking and choosing what should be delayed.

    Spot on.

Both sides of this debate employ a wide arrangement of shitbirds willing to play politics at the expense of the Mericun Sheeple, but the Dems seem to have a clear edge on facts obfuscation and an unwillingness to negotiate.

The leftists and their pals in the lapdog media are trying desperately to pin this on the Repubs, but the Dems own the Obamacare debacle 100% including the - um - "shutdown."

The conservatives have dropped the ball on controlling the language. It is NOT a "shutdown" by sheer definition. Government is still operating. Very typical to let the Left and the commentating media define it.

"I recognize that in today's media age, being controversial, taking controversial positions, rallying the most extreme parts of your base, whether it's left or right, is a lot of times the fastest way to get attention and raise money," he said in an interview with the Associated Press released Saturday. "But it's not good for government."

When Obama got to the Senate, he said, "my attitude was I should just keep a pretty low profile in the Senate and just do the work." While the media did seek him out, "I didn't go around courting the media."

In a particular jab that seemed aimed at Cruz, who is seen as a driving force behind efforts to shutdown the government over Obamacare, the president added: "And I certainly didn't go around trying to shut down the government."
This quote was from Obama this morning describing the difference between himself as a junior Senator and these Tea Party types as junior Senators.

The House today unanimously passed a bill to make sure furloughed workers get back pay. The President has said he will sign this bill (only this bill).

I would be kind of pissed quite frankly if I was essential personnel and had to work knowing that everyone else is getting a free paid vacation.

Not that I don't think the furloughed workers should be made whole, but it is just kind of shitty for those who had to just keep working like usual.

    GALLUP: OBAMA FALLS TO 41%...
$63B Spent, $26B Taxed, $1.6B Borrowed in First 2 Days of 'Shutdown'...
83% of Federal Government Still Operating...

it may have changed with this bill, but in order to get paid for a holiday as an excepted employee, we must work that holiday during the shutdown.

Which is why it's not really a shutdown but just a bunch of political posturing by the left and supportive boo-hooing by the lamestream media.

This is a domestic Cuban Missile Crisis. A single blunder could have unalterable consequences: If Obama buckles his no-ransom stance, the debt-ceiling-hostage genie will be out of the bottle. If Republicans believe he is bluffing, or accept his position but obstinately refuse it, or try to lift the debt ceiling and simply botch the vote count, a second Great Recession could ensue.
This paragraph from NY Magazine very succinctly lays out the stakes for the next 10 or so days as far as the debt ceiling goes. There is so much on the line for the hundreds of millions of American people, and we have a bunch of clowns in Washington who have given us no reason to believe they won't screw it up.
