So, of those few who think they signed up for this disaster, at least 25% of that group does not really have coverage. It simply cannot get any more f#$ked up.
Two informative techies were on the tv the other night; they both agreed that this website could have (and should have) been completed for $5 to $10 million -- period. Instead, we are approaching $1 Billion and it not only does not work, it is so rife with security risks that NO ONE in their right mind should EVER contemplate applying.
And by the way, the website is not really the true problem; the unaffordable, unworkable, unmanageable law is!!
WHEN WILL THE PLUG BE PULLED ON THIS INCREDIBLE DISASTER? -

Manhattan BuckeyeI'm not sure what is happening with the website, I haven't tried it. But if reports are correct and it is as bad as the complaints indicate, this is a debacle. We've sent a few gifts via Amazon.com, and there were some mistakes on our part - within one minute we received multiple notices about our mistakes, how they can help us and how they can properly deliver the correct product to the correct address. Why isn't amazon.com running the obamacare site? Who is running it?

gutI generally despise conspiracy theories as ignorant cherry-picking...But I can't help but think it's "plausible" that Obamakare is designed to fuck the insurance industry to the point where single-payer is the only alternative.
That would be an unbelievably ambitious plot. I think it may be more a case of blind luck, and the debate will be about whether going back is practical or single-payer is the only option.
I actually don't think Obama is one to go "all-in". We can still fix this if Repubs somehow win the Senate. The community organizer won't bet his future relevance on this. -
believerConspiracy theory or not I sincerely believe that the negligence and failure of Obamacare, to date, was and is by design.
Obama, the Clintons, and many others on the left have advocated single-payer health care in the United States for quite some time.
Had they introduced Obamacare as single-payer from the outset they knew it would be die on the vine. So they came up with the "if you like your current plan you can keep it" ruse to deliberately create chaos and havoc within the system to prompt employers and Americans to clamor for the "convenience" of single-payer based on the Euro-Canadian socialist health care system model.
Barry is not afraid of betting his future relevance on the failures of Obamacare because he can always claim that the "failure" was a single-payer blessing in disguise. -

New Survey Shows Manufacturers Hit Hard by Affordable Care Act. More than three-fourths of manufacturers identified rising health care and insurance costs as their most important challenge, according to the latest NAM/IndustryWeek Survey of Manufacturers for Q4. Manufacturers have ranked this issue as their highest primary challenge all year.
“Costs and uncertainty are up, and manufacturers’ optimism is down thanks to the health care reform law,” said NAM Senior Vice President of Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse. “The health care law has weighed heavily on manufacturers all year long—and their concerns are not going away. It is standing in the way of manufacturing growth by seriously limiting investment and job creation.”
More than 90 percent of manufacturers stated their health insurance premiums had increased, and a significant portion have had to increase employee copays (58.6 percent), reduce coverage (27.7 percent) and/or change insurance providers (17.6 percent) to lower their costs.
Manufacturers’ views in the survey drew considerable media attention by The Hill, Politico, The Daily Caller, Money News and more.
According to the survey, the Affordable Care Act and the accompanying uncertainties have had effects that extend well beyond premium payments and have placed a roadblock in manufacturers’ efforts to invest and grow. When asked about how these uncertainties have impacted their business, nearly one-third said they had reduced their outlook for 2014, and a sizable percentage had reduced employment or stopped hiring (23.1 percent) and/or reduced or slowed down their business investment (20.2 percent).
Manufacturers cited an unfavorable business climate (76.1 percent) as their second most pressing challenge. When asked about policies that manufacturers want to see from policymakers in 2014, respondents pointed to finding ways to reduce the regulatory burden on businesses (76.9 percent) and passing comprehensive tax reform (67.5 percent) as important priorities. In addition, 86.3 percent want the President and Congress to find a long-term solution to the nation’s budgetary challenges. -

If someone gets diagnosed with cancer they can't then sign up for health insurance to pay for it, bypassing paying for health insurance their whole lives up to that point.
I had to go through a lot of paperwork for my wife when I switched jobs to prove we had continuous coverage since she had some chronic health issues that spanned the career transition.
If we did not have continuous coverage, they would not cover anything with her issues.
It freaking makes sense, but the bleeding hearts don't understand how the real world works. They don't believe that people would "take advantage" of the fact that they could never pay a premium, develop something like cancer, and then go sign up for health insurance and effectively make everyone else pay for it. No, that would never happen in a perfect liberal utopia!gut;1549106 wrote:They may be the self-proclaimed party of "science", but definitely not economics. QuakerOats[h=3]Affordable Care Act Causing Some Wisconsin Employers To Delay Hiring, Expansion.[/h]"Gannett News Service (12/21, Litke) reported business leaders say the Affordable Care Act has made some Wisconsin companies delaying hiring and expansion. Reed Hall, CEO and secretary of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., said, “eople tell me they just aren’t hiring because of that, until they know exactly what the expenses are going to be, so they know if they have any margin left.” The article noted a fourth-quarter survey conducted by the National Association of Manufacturers and IndustryWeek found that US manufacturers cited “rising health care costs as their biggest business challenge.” The survey also found that about one-third of manufacturers said the ACA reduced their business outlook for next year and more than percent said they would reduce the number of workers or stop hiring."
And this is exactly what is occurring all across the nation. This horrific law and this presidency have killed more jobs than the great depression. What a national disgrace. -

QuakerOatsA Large New Tax on Small Business
The latest ObamaCare levy takes effect Jan. 1.
Wall Street Journal Opinion
Dec. 29, 2013 6:27 p.m. ET
ObamaCare includes so many taxes that it's hard to keep track, but one of the worst takes effect on Jan. 1. This beaut is a levy on health insurance premiums that targets the small business and individual markets.
At $8 billion in 2014 and $101 billion over the next decade, the insurance tax is larger than ObamaCare's taxes on medical devices and prescription drugs combined. The Internal Revenue Service classifies the tax as a "fee" but it functions like an excise tax on premiums. The IRS collects an annual flat amount specified by the Affordable Care Act to be allocated among the insurers according to market share.
But not all markets. IRS regulations published in November excluded "any entity that is a self-insured employer to the extent that such employer self-insures its employees' health risks." Since about four of five employers with more than 500 workers and most union-negotiated health plans are self-insured, they are spared from the tax. So is insurance on behalf of "government entities," such as original Medicare (but not privately run Medicare Advantage).
This political selectivity means the most gold-plated public, private and labor plans are exempt and the tax burden falls on the saps who work for small businesses, the self-employed and individuals—i.e., the people who can least afford it.
The White House tells business that the tab will be picked up by deep-pocketed insurers, which is good for a laugh. The Congressional Budget Office reports the tax will be "largely passed through to consumers in the form of higher premiums" and "would ultimately raise insurance premiums by a corresponding amount." The Joint Tax Committee and private economists, such as former CBO director Doug Holtz-Eakin, say the tax will boost insurance costs about 2% to 2.5%. The consultant Oliver Wyman estimates the take will rise to as much as $500 per covered worker by decade's end.
Wasn't the Affordable Care Act supposed to be about expanding coverage in part by lowering premiums, not slapping on more overhead? By this liberal logic taxing cigarettes should create more smokers.
Oh, and to salt the wound, this "fee" is not deductible for corporate income tax purposes. In other words, health plans pay the tax and then federal and state taxes on the taxed amount. Mr. Holtz-Eakin estimates this unusual taxes-on-taxes rule means that the effect on premiums is 54% larger than the dollar amount of the tax itself.
The research arm of the National Federation of Independent Business calculates that the higher insurance costs will shrink hiring by 146,000 to 262,000 jobs over the next decade, with 59% of those losses hitting small business. They'll also be further encouraged to dump coverage and send their workers to the mercies of the ObamaCare exchanges. The latter was probably a main liberal purpose from the start.
Louisiana Republican Charles Boustany and Utah Democrat Jim Matheson's repeal bill already has 229 cosponsors, or a House majority, including some dozen Democrats. The White House naturally promises a veto. Happy New Year. -
