  I'm somewhat persuaded, by his actions, that he knew the consequences. Seems that the alternative was to either put his life/well-being in more immediate danger, or keep quiet about unconstitutional activity.
  
  I'd suggest his actions to be the most ethical of those available.

  I don't think he could possibly know the details of the outcome. I don't think anyone does ...even now.

  Maybe not the intricacies, no. However, I would have guessed that, generally speaking, he'd be vilified and hunted by government organizations and the large-scale media outlets.

  Well, the two I mentioned seem to have come to fruition thus far. As for asylum, I hope he finds it somewhere. That does indeed remain to be seen, though.

  He like all of us make choices that have unknown consequences. He does not know his future or what his life will be like going forward. Will he be in a U.S. Federal prison or will he be living in Iceland? There's a pretty big difference between the two.

  No offense intended (I genuinely mean that), but I would probably prefer to err on the side of caution ... ie, not trusting someone to not come after me simply because I place nobody's life in danger.

  Moreover, I'd submit that it doesn't take a conspiracy theorist to believe that illicit, under-the-table activities occur from time to time. You won't find me espousing the belief that the moon landing was faked, that JFK's assassination was something other than what was described in the news, or that 9/11 was an inside job. However, I'd suggest there is middle ground between being a conspiracy theorist and being naive. I would suggest that believing everything is done on the books (where that paperwork comes in) is naive.

  there is just too much liability in killing someone like him. people get these notions from movies that is so easy to cover up stuff etc. heck, watch the history channel and see all the crazy stuff we did during the cold war, even with all the precautions, stuff still gets out eventually. you really give the bumbling federal government that much credit to cover up snowden's "dissapearance"?
  
  
  
  

  The Fourth Amendment would suggest otherwise, as likely would the founders. If Congress passed a law allowing your wife to be raped by government officials, and a crooked judge approved it, would it be legal?

  kind of a stretch dont you say from gathering data that will most likely sit unused forever and raping? and judges on the FISA court are automatically crooked? and the founding fathers wouldnt exactly like blacks or women owning land either, but yeah, lets bring them into this debate...

  It seems the ramifications of Snowden's actions are stretching beyond just him and the U.S. Government. It's obvious that his search for asylum was going to be a tough one, but it almost caused an international incident last night with the Bolivian President having his plane grounded and searched by Austria.
