Then the rate would drop....i.e. you have 18 out of 20 people with jobs (90%) and then 10 retire and go unfilled, now your participation rate is 80% (8 out of 10).

But obviously they calculate with estimates, adjusted for unemployment claims and maybe SS or 401k/IRA distributions. So for the most part, when those people retire even if only some are backfilled the participation rate should go up.

Regardless, if the current participation rate is 62% or so, over 60% of retiree positions would have to be eliminated to negatively affect the participation rate.

True, and even more reason to look at the labor participation rate as a sign of the economy's condition rather than the unemployment rate.

    RECORD 92,269,000 AMERICANS NOT WORKING

Black Unemployment Hits 11.4%... (and obviously much higher than that)

Change we can believe in ....

In the greater scheme of things, this is not much:

    http://news.yahoo.com/president-obama-checks-stonehenge-off-bucket-list-190256099--abc-news-politics.html

But seriously, I'm sure many tourists had their days ruined because the SS took care to make sure no one else could enjoy the historical site for those few hours. In reality no one can just walk around stonehenge without some sort of educational permit. Most people are forced to look at it from a fence a hundred yards or so around the perimeter. It is a tourist trap, and traffic around it is horrible.

About Bush though, I really don't think he was that bad of a president. It was one of the worst periods in American history tragedy wise, we had the worst attack on our nation since Pearl Harbor, one of the worst natural disasters in history, a second gulf war and the collapse of the housing bubble. I can never hate Bush to this day for how he got us through September 11th, he performed admirably

    More "lost" IRS emails... http://bigstory.ap.org/article/competing-views-irs-treatment-tea-party

The IT gurus in the Federal gubmint must be massively incompetent...or perhaps we have a shit load of talented liars at the highest levels of the IRS and the White House. I'm putting my money on the latter.

This guy is such an embarrassment.

    http://news.yahoo.com/apnewsbreak-obama-delay-immigration-action-135104793--politics.html

Obama is everything that is wrong with DC. Narcissistic, everything driven by politics and cynical. If something is the right thing to do (I don't agree on this one), you don't wait to do it after an election. We can't get rid of this ass soon enough.

At this point, I'll settle for Lois Lerner going to jail. At least take her pension, damnit....she deserves a lengthy prison term This is criminal times three, and politically motivated.

EVERYTHING about this Administration is politically motivated. There has been absolutely nothing about Obama & Co. that shows me these buffoons actually have the best interest of all the American people in mind.

IRS needs to be gone...... Along with the EPA and few others departments, each state regulate taxes, energy and education.

It worked just fine; we used to have a juggernaut of an economy. Today, under the marxists, we have no growth, no wage growth, record numbers out of the work force, record food stamp roles, and regulators and bureaucrats out the wahzooo. Better wake up.

You could argue that the greatest expansions in our economy in the past 100 years occurred under liberal presidents (Roosevelt, Truman, and Clinton).

What saved Roosevelt's ass certainly wasn't the New Deal. WWII had far more to do with his "great expansion".

Truman enjoyed the inevitable post wartime boom. ANY POTUS would have enjoyed that bonus.

Clinton inherited Reagan's economy. And he got some help from a Republican-controlled Congress, the dot-com bubble, and an artificial housing boom.

    "the dot-com bubble,"

That killed our economy for nearly a decade. Now we have social media that gets its money from where? I have a twitter account (but don't tweet), and a FB account and never once looked at an advertisement.

Hard to believe that we used to live in a country that actually made things.

Hasn't Obama inherited Bush's economy then?

    Advertising real estate

It would be as if a few companies owned all the billboard and newspaper ad space in the world back in the 80's. They'd have been worth a few dollars too.

I'd say creating websites that billions of people in the world use every day qualifies as "making things." Sorry it's not steel beams or copper pipes or whatever your wet dream is.

Indeed...and Barry has managed to double-down on that debacle.

No POTUS "inherits" anything. They all ask for the job, and they all know full well where things stand when they do.

Yes, and he completely trashed it, and continues his assault upon it.

Question. On his own. Not compared to Obama. Do you consider Bush a good president? Because any conservative I know with half a brain does not.

I love how the same people who constantly complain whenever anyone mentions Bush's suckitude in reference to Obama are super-quick to point out that Clinton benefited from Reagan. I mean, at least with Bush-Obama, there's a direct succession. With Reagan-Clinton, there were four years of lies and failure in between their 8-year reigns.
