2012 Democrat Party National Convention

  • gut
DNC doesn't even get started and already they try to associate Ryan with Hitler.

Dick Durbin on Fox responding to a direct question with outrage over what he thinks the question is implying.

This could be the best comedy of the year.

And with that you can sum up the difference between today's Democratic Party and the rest of us

haha I was just about to post this very same video!

Government is the only thing we all belong to? Really? What ever happened to "government for the people and by the people"?

    Crazy stuff right here folks.

LoL that's essentially what the phrase "government of the people, by the people and for the people" means...
  • HitsRus
“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government — lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.” – Patrick Henry
“…a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.” – Thomas Jefferson
“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” – Thomas Jefferson
...and so let's watch the DNC in that context.

I was very impressed with Deval Patrick....

and I'm even more impressed with Mayor Julian Castro....we'll be hearing alot from him in the coming years

    CNN Flash Poll:

80% say Mayor Castro is giving a better keynote than Gov. Christie

You really don't think he meant we're the governments belongings right? seriously... right?
  • HitsRus
Fraud. Not that I wouldn't expect it. Castro grandmother is latino....but he doesn't even speak Spanish fluently. His heritage is only important now that it can do something for him.

    You cannot be serious??

    That's a disgusting statement

I don't see it as saying "we are government property"...but I see the video as elevating government to the status of being a 'club' that is good by nature, and I think that is contrary to history and to which this country was founded. If this is some organization that we all are 'part of'...then it is our duty as Americans to restrain it and limit its' power as outlined by our founders.

we're all a part of the government ie: we're a republic.

He's only important to the Democrats because they hope he can deliver the demographic. He doesn't speak spanish fluently. Fact.
Both sets of my grandparents came from what is now Slovakia. They were very ethnic.....but strangely...two generations later I don't speak the language fluently. Just how important was my heritage that I didn't even learn to speak the language? Now I'm proud of my heritage, just as I suspect he is...but that is not quite the same. If I was a 'rising star', and Slovaks were an important demographic...I would suspect the Democrats would run me out there as an ethnic Slovak to try to garner Slovak votes..."see...He's a true slovak". That would be a fraud...just as it is here. It's a political ploy... period. Maybe even worse...he lives in an area that has a strong latino influence...but he still hasn't taken the time to learn the language. I think Rosetta stone costs about $395....send it to him.

we're all a part of the government ie: we're a republic.
Then let's work to limit it and restrain those from hijacking it to their political purposes.

Are you really talking about trotting out people of color as political ploys? At least the people on the stage matched the people in the audience at this convention.

I've got to agree with Britt Hume. All these humble beginnings speeches are growing tiresome. From Nikki Haley to Bob McDonnell to Marco Rubio at the RNC and now we're starting with Mayor Castro at the DNC. I get why Ann Romney gave her speech. People believe Mitt can do the job but likeability is his issue so her speech helped to bridge that gap.

As for the First Lady, I think she gave a good speech and it will rally that base but I don't know how much it'll do in the grand scheme. It showed President Obama is a nice guy and good family man but heck many speakers at the RNC said the same thing. It's all about the job performance. I picked up on the line about the President not being afraid to listen to good ideas but he has ignored his own self appointed budget committee's recommendation with no explanation. I also did not like the tone of her speech. It was all about how the last generation sacrificed and how we must sacrifice and continue to suffer and struggle for the next generation. Whereas the RNC had a similar tone but they emphasized that the recession is not the "new normal" and that we can have a great society while leaving our children in the position to succeed just like we do. There was a stark contrast in messages IMO.

Edit: On another note I live less than a mile from where all this is going on. Regardless of your political affiliations being around an event like this is pretty awesome. Minus all the roads being blocked but that's only a minor issue.

I thought the RNC was terrible but the DNC is beyond words.

When will Republicans stop pretending like all of the Founding Fathers would agreed with them? If John Marshall would have written his opinions in this day and age they would have been burning him in effigy.

    From Mrs. Obama's speech:

"When it comes to giving our kids the education they deserve, Barack knows that like me and like so many of you, he never could’ve attended college without financial aid.

And believe it or not, when we were first married, our combined monthly student loan bills were actually higher than our mortgage.

We were so young, so in love, and so in debt.
That’s why Barack has fought so hard to increase student aid and keep interest rates down, because he wants every young person to fulfill their promise and be able to attend college without a mountain of debt."

Isn't the size of the debt(mountain - the amount owed) un-related to the interest rates? Do the democrats understand economics?

I really thought the line from Castro about Intelligence and Drive not being the key factors in regards to getting into top schools. Its because someone didn't get into Pre K.

This guy Ben Swann with Fox 19 in Cincinnati I think is the only real journalist you will find remaining in this country. I can't imagine he will keep his job much longer, and it will be a tragedy when he is gone.

They obviously don't. The obvious answer to lowering costs of education is to fire up the printing press and just give out more money because creating money out of thin air is a great way to lower costs. Also all the money we have spent on education has paid off well obviously.

    From Mrs. Obama's speech:

"for Barack, success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives."

So why are they harping so much on how much money Romney makes?

Ben Swann has a lot of good videos out there. You are probably right, he will be let go soon I am sure.
