Quit hogging all the "A's" ...it's not fair...time to redistribute GPA's

  The upper 10% are getting all the good jobs...it's not fair for the poorer student. Honors students need to contribute some of their GPA points to their lower ranked classmates.

  I gave up my 4.0 GPA in high school for girls, sex, fast cars, parties, drinking, drugs, fights, street racing, drive ins and stayout till 2 in the morning on a school night ...... my 1.9 GPA helped those other kids get that 4.0 GPA

  This is really a poor representation of what the left's position is. In this scenario, studying = hard work, and GPA = wealth; leading you to conclude: hard work determines wealth and studying determines GPA.
  
  But the left's complaint is that the system is slanted to favor the rich staying rich while simultaneously screwing the middle class and poor. So in this scenario it would be like some of those with the 4.0 GPA only had to do 50% of the homework and exams. i.e. the millionaires and billionaires who grow their money via their stock options and little else.

  Exactly....some people are naturally intelligent and getting high grades comes easier for them. So really, the two situations are comparable. I think was a really well-done and thought provoking video. Bravo to these students who clearly grasp reality better than some people who are many years their elder.

  Not that I agree 100% with the left, but this is definitely an over simplification of what they think.

  Is that really a negative? I mean, seriously? Talented and hard-working individuals usually do not regress. A more accurate statement might be the system is slanted toward the status quo, but I don't think that is an indictment. It SHOULD take effort and talent to climb the ladder - aside from luck it's very difficult to create value when you bring none to the table. An ability to put screws in a car door doesn't add value and doesn't give you market power, especially when a machine can do it (or two workers in Mexico for 1/2 the cost). Now the guy who created that machine can and does realize some value.

  I don't see the poor/middle class getting "screwed". The wealth gap is a problem, and it's global. The potential and opportunity is and always has been there, but globalization has reduced the ability of people to extract excess value for doing non-value added jobs.

  Unless said people work for the government that has a virtually unlimited revenue stream and near total lack of accountability. I've mentioned this often (including here), but the battle in the next decade or so won't be along the traditional "conservative" vs. "liberal" line but rather the ever expanding public sector (and increasing rent seekers) and the productive private sector. We've seen how well that has worked in Western Europe, yet we continue to go down that path.

  Well as a kind of intellectual exercise lets take a look at the issue. Lets look at that top 10% and compare. Maybe lot of them are starting on third base and every time they score they claim to have hit a home run. I am sure they are much more likely to come on from higher income groups within the community. That their parents are more likely to have a more advanced education than the rest of the community. They are more likely to have had books in their home, have seen their parents enjoy reading and have been taught the value of education. They are more likely to have special tutoring for important tests like the SAT or ACT. They are less likely to be expected to take extension responsibility in the home for child raising of younger siblings or be expected to make significant economic contributions to the family.

  I think she's saying we should arrange marriages because smart, successful people passing on those genes and work ethic to their children provides those children an unfair advantage. I don't know, maybe we should consider this - I would certainly be open to being set-up with a supermodel.

  It's not that the car needs those screws as much as the people who put the screws in need as much money for their family as the engineer's family. :thumbup:

  What the hell does this even mean? I know it is a term used often in the UWS arena and in MSNBC programs (Chris Matthews tends to state this often) but if this is what the DEMS are offering now, it is a tough meat to swallow.
  
  I wasn't born on third base, my parents had a trailer until 1980 (thanks to the Carter years) but I have to apologize because I'm white, I have blue eyes, and my hair was blonde (now more grey)?
  
  Three wordsn (with a contraction). Life isn't fair. Three more words. Big $^#%ing deal...if someone was born rich. I'd love to have the attractiveness of Brad Pitt. I'd love to be as athletic as Lebron James. I'd love to be as smart as the late Steve Jobs. I'd love to live in a family that will inherit a seven figure trust. God didn't create me that way, but I get by with what I have. I don't b$&%^h about it, we have good lives. We aren't starving, we don't want for anything other than luxuries and we try to do the best we can to create a better environment and economy for others.
  
  This administration has focused on class warfare and an idea that the government should provide everything and that human nature should be thrown out of the equation. It doesn't work. If we have a child that is born on 3rd base, we're the ones that put him/her on 3rd base and we aren't apologizing for it. The United States is in a transitional mode and we can choose....go back to the ideals and values that made us exceptional, or continue a downward spiral. The nation panicked in '08. I'm not letting that happen again in my social circles. And I won't apologize for it. This administration is bad for our country's long-term future. They need to be voted out of office.
