Just like CPD isn't taking people who haven't been through a police academy or have x years of corrections.
Not even close to the same thing. And I would say not true even. Most departments look for good people first. As one retired chief I know told me: "You can train a person to be a good firefighter. You cannot train a firefighter to be a good person."

Most of the big departments will send you to the academy regardless of your prior certs. Most departments would rather train you their way, than to have someone who was taught differently.

Believe me or not, the fire service is one I know a lot about.

It is the same thing. Just because it is not listed as a minimum requirement, doesn't mean it isn't a requirement.

Columbus is the only one around here that does that.

I know a decent amount too. 4 Uncles who were/are fire chiefs. 5 cousins who are firefighters, 3 friends who are firefighters.

Of the ones I've looked up, 0 require any certification to get hired.

    Wrong.

    Wrong.

I would bet most didn't require certs to get hired. Whether they had them or not is irrelevant.

Minimum "requirements" aren't the same as actual requirements.

    Wrong.
Who else in central ohio has their own academy?

They all had to go get certs because they couldn't get hired without them. It was a requirement. The older guys not so much, but that was all 25+ years ago

Probably none. Most use the Columbus Fire academy. I'm not sure why are asking though. I said that most department will send you to THE academy (being in Columbus), regardless of your prior certs or training. In a sense, they don't care about your prior training.

Yes you are. You said firefighters are required to have certification prior to getting hired. This is false.

Now you are (falsely) saying that it isn't required, but we all know that secretly they only hire this with certs.

What departments? In my experience, the only departments that require prior certs are those not governed by civil service. There are some, but not many.

Delaware, Sunbury, Westerville, Nerk, Marion, Johnstown and Harlem. They couldn't even get an interview till they had certs

Ah, ad hominem debating logic huh? Typically shows whoever resorts to ad hominem is wrong on their side.

And trust me, you don't want to start comparing mental capacities, you will come up short.

City. He is with Harlem now though. 3 of my cousins are now with Harlem. My uncle was one of the founding FF there and was Chief for years. They went fulltime 2 years ago and the 3 "came home"

I'm fairly certain any department that falls under civil service commission does not (or cannot) require prior certification.

    Isn't Sunbury volunteer?
