    They are paid on the GS scale. Your lowest wage workers are going to be GS-5's, a good amount above minimum wage.

    In the Columbus market, a GS-5 makes 32k per year

    It's a matter of degree. McDonalds employees get training on how to make fries, but that doesn't make them a chef. We're at roughly the same level here, from what I've seen.

    Jesus, folks, if you don't like it, don't fly. I'll bet most of you bitch if the flight attendant puts too much ice in your cup. I've flown a hell of a lot since 9/11, been full body scanned, patted down and had carry on bags inspected thoroughly by hand. It's not that big of a deal. Get to the airport a little early. Once you get through security buy a newspaper, take a chill pill and relax.

    I don't disagree but to state that are not trained professionals just isn't accurate which was what my response was to.

    Maybe I'm not getting this.

    Why can't we have a metal detector and canine crews at all domestic airports?

    Metal detector will catch the knives, boxcutters etc....dogs will sniff out the rest.

    I certainly trust a German Shepherd over the $10.00/hr guy groping me...or for that matter the $12.00/hr person viewing my body image.

    So, your choice is to either have your junk seen/measured or have it groped? Nice...

    My last set of flights was in October to/from Europe and they had these units but I was "lucky" enough to go through a regular metal detector line.

    Why can't we have airport security like the Israelis do? They don't have to suffer the humiliation of being groped and treated like criminals just for going to the airport. When's the last time someone flew an Israeli plane into a building?

    "I don't know why everybody is running to buy these expensive and useless machines. I can overcome the body scanners with enough explosives to bring down a Boeing 747," Rafi Sela told parliamentarians probing the state of aviation safety in Canada.

    "That's why we haven't put them in our airport," Sela said, referring to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport, which has some of the toughest security in the world.

    Sela, former chief security officer of the Israel Airport Authority and a 30-year veteran in airport security and defence technology, helped design the security at Ben Gurion.

    1. Someone tries to sneak explosives onto a plane in their shoes. Everyone must now take off their shoes.
    2. Someone tries to sneak explosives onto a plane in their underwear. We now have the searches where they physically touch your genitals and breasts for the women.
    3. Someone will eventually try/succeed in sneaking explosives onto a plane in one of their body cavities. Don't think it won't happen? They don't search there currently. Result: TSA now makes cavity searches mandatory.

    Still okay? Nothing to hide after all, please bend over and spread em. Don't think it won't happen, either. It's the next logical step, TSA is completely reactionary.

    For those of you "I have nothing to hide, it's ok with me" people, I have a book I'd like you all to buy and read to your kids before flying. After all, they have nothing to hide either, it should be ok with them. We can't possible have profiling because "You don't think terrorists are smart enough to start using white people and children to blow up planes?" Better start getting them used to it, I guess.

    Thanks. I thought I got that technically right...after all that's the part I was focusing on.

    It is possible to be a trained professional who is a goober. I see 'em more often than I would like out there in the world. ...Goober for sure but dag gone it a trained professional while still being a goober.

    Completely agree. A hound's scent is far more effective than the video evidence. All I see is a dude's junk. A non-trained hound can sniff their owner at 50 yards, and can hear them at 200 yards., I can't believe that we can't train dogs to sniff out a potential plane terrorist.

    We can. We use the dogs to find the types of explosive these scans are meant to find all the time in police and military work. The dogs are actually the first thing they use as they're the most effective at locating it. I have no idea why we can't use them here too.

    Kids like dogs. Kids don't like being touched by strangers.

    Some people are frightened of dogs but hey get over it….. Dog, Scanning or Body Search pick one…
    Many of us are use to the occasional wet dog nose in the groin or ass sniffing so using a dogs is a good option something we can relate to as normal ......
