Gotta love it. John Stewart and Colbert never cease to entertain. Nice to see him call out EVERYONE, too. I think i hate Chris Matthews as much as he does, which only makes me like him even more haha.

    Anyone planning on attending? :D

PTown, you'll be in DC, so you better! I would imagine he'll have some fun guests and the like as well. Hopefully some guest appearances from formers/current correspondents as well.

Ehh, I have a life, so I might be busy lol.
    I will probably.
    Great, great concept.

I didn't go to any tea parties, so this is pretty much a dead end also.

Oprah makes it legit? Shes part of the reason why we have this mess. Without her no one knows who BHO is.

    Celebrities mocking hard working Americans..HILARIOUS..
  • cbus4life
There are lots of hard-working Americans who support this...those who attended the "Glen Beck Rally" don't have a monopoly on hard work. I have plenty of friends, all who have full-time jobs, pay their bills, support their country, etc., etc., who are very excited about the rally.

So, it will mostly be hard-working Americans mocking other hard-working Americans. :D
  • CenterBHSFan
But, why should the tea party or its supporters be mocked?

Or is it just the GB rally that should be mocked? (I didn't go nor was I interested, but what harm did it do to be mocked?)

Is that really what this is all about? Mocking people who make a show of protesting and wanting things to be done better?
  • Glory Days
because the Tea Partiers(and other types of rallies) tend to kinda be out there sometimes at their rallies yelling and screaming stupid things etc.
Because we're looking for those people. We're looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn't be the only ones that get heard; and who believe that the only time it's appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that person is actually Hitler. Or Charlie Chaplin in certain roles.

Are you one of those people? Excellent. Then we'd like you to join us in Washington, DC on October 30 -- a date of no significance whatsoever -- at the Daily Show's "Rally to Restore Sanity." Ours is a rally for the people who've been too busy to go to rallies, who actually have lives and families and jobs (or are looking for jobs) -- not so much the Silent Majority as the Busy Majority. If we had to sum up the political view of our participants in a single sentence... we couldn't. That's sort of the point.
its also going to be about nothing in particular(or politics) and probably just have a bunch of comedy stuff going on.

It's about not taking ourselves so seriously. This idea that "the other guys" are somehow exclusively ruining the country (this thought process comes from all political sides) is in fact, ruining the country. Screaming, shouting, calling people Hitler-like or Marxists when they aren't actually those things are counter productive to us actually making any progress.

    That and it's funny.
  • CenterBHSFan
I see what your saying Pants & Days, but if we don't take ourselves seriously, how can we expect our government to?
  • I Wear Pants
Taking ourselves seriously isn't the problem. It's taking ourselves too seriously. This idea that every single thing is a matter of upmost importance where there is no wiggle room for other's ideas or viewpoints and that compromise is a defeat is disheartening. And it really is coming from all of the political movements right now. Not just the Democrats, Repulicans, or Tea Party supporters.

because its becoming too serious and basically turning people off.

I don't think it is about mocking anyone, i just posted what i did earlier to counter what was said about "celebrities mocking hard working Americans." That wasn't correct, and I used the "mocking" comment to try and make the point that it didn't make any sense to mock anyone.

The tea party doesn't deserve to be mocked, obviously, and that isn't the point of the rally. Just a group who doesn't feel like they can fit in amongst the radicals on both sides of the spectrum, and are looking for a voice.

If anyone actually pays attention to John Stewart on general, or the announcement in particular, you would know that he pretty much is disgusted by the left as much as the right, at this point.

Stepehen Colbert made a mockery out of congress yesterday.

The plight of migrant farmworkers isn't your typical grist for a comedy routine. But it was on Friday -- in the House of Representatives, of all places -- when San Jose Rep. Zoe Lofgren invited comedian Stephen Colbert to "testify" at a hearing on the topic.

But not everyone was amused, with some critics accusing Lofgren of making a mockery of Congress....

Congress does that all on their own IMO.

This. I rarely watch Stewart, but it is clear that both sides are pissing him (and a few others) off. Basically what I got from the point of his rally was trying to create something where it is still actually acceptable to be a moderate, and/or just have a passive opinion, since everything has become so polarized and a screaming match over nothing.

I admittedly have been turned off by political discussion compared to before since well before the 2008 election, simply based on the fact that it's about impossible to have rational conversation with anyone anymore. No one wants to listen, they just want to spout off. I'm not saying anyone has to agree with anyone, but people have just stopped even listening to one another. What I see is the plans to get more people involved in politics backfiring massively, because while people got involved, they never took the time to actually familiarize themselves with any reasonable idea of what the fuck is going on. This get-together basically gets at all of that.

Quite true. They are some where between a circus freak show and the star wars bar scene.

Ha! Two hilarious examples! I personally loved Bill O'Reilly's subtle disdain of Congressman Shadeg's using Maddie as a prop. I think Star Wars bar scene is a very good analogy!

That’s because our country is filled with repeaters and most only repeat what they see on TV.

You’re taught what to think not how to think.

Soooo... this rally is just going to be some comedians, with the audiences shuffling around - no specific topics of interest.
    Some heckling and inuendo.

That's how I feel. Hell, last week, I had to sit through a 5-or-10-minute argument that never quite reached "shouting match" levels, but came close between two guys who are lifelong friends (I'm a more-recent friend of both) over politics. The "my way is the only right way, compromise is for pussies" attitude is what's ruining this country more than the ideals of either side. If this rally can bring that notion to the forefront and run with it, it will be a success as far as I'm concerned.
