So, a few times Israel is attacked by various ME countries and in the process Israel kicks their butts every time.
The treaties to end the wars give Israel some land, and now Israel has to give it back?
That's just plain retarded.
We should give back Mexico most of the west (the demographics are already there), we should give back Puerto Rico and the Phillipines to Spain, etc.
Matter of fact, we should give back everything east of the Mississippi back to Great Brittain.
So, the US would be left with the land that includes the Lousiana Purchase, Florida, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii?
Sounds good to me.
This is BS, you attack a neighboring country and lose (big time) don't cry 40+ years later for your land back. -

jhay78Netanyahu will put Obama straight pretty soon when they meet in DC.
As for American Jews, when will they wake up and stop supporting this President?

Mega dittos -
WriterbuckeyeThis will be the second time Obama has done something overtly anti-Israel just as the prime minister was due in the US.
I doubt that's a coincidence. -

At which point they'll shake their heads -- then head into the nearest voting booth and push the buttons for candidates with a "D" beside their names. -

Umm, anyone that knows the issue knows that this is the mainstream view and the only practical way to get any sort of agreement. Ignoring a Palestinian state without pre-1967 borders and swaps here and there ignores the reality in the region.QuakerOats;773914 wrote:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110519/ap_on_re_us/us_obama_mideast_palestinians_1

W pretty much also said this in his Presidency and was also backed up by Condi Rice in the 2008 Annapolis Summit.
I watched the speech, pretty good overall. Broadly speaking it was a nice overview of the U.S. position on the Arab Spring. -

The thing is its not just American Jews. There are Israeli leftist Jews who think that if they just tore up the settlements and retreated back to pre 1967 borders, the world would love them and so would the Arabs. Its amazing how divorced from reality these people are. Not only do they have world history to use as a guide and the history of the last 100 yrs in the region, they need look no further than the Gaza Strip. Israel dismantles Jewish communities and pulls out. Now the launching pad for Hamas rockets is a little closer.Writerbuckeye;774343 wrote:At which point they'll shake their heads -- then head into the nearest voting booth and push the buttons for candidates with a "D" beside their names.
I just read that the opposition Labor party in Israel's leader (Tzipi Livni) praised Obama and said his plan is in Israel's best interest. She even went on to blame the current impasse in the peace process on Netanyahu. -

Only thing is those areas the U.S. took we made them full citizens and added them to the U.S. Or, we gave the Philippines the option to be a free state.
Israel is doing none of that. Instead, the occupation areas have no rights, no states, they are not Israeli citizens and live a life without a country.
Israel is facing a painful reality, if it does not do something to create a two state solution, if there is one giant state, the Arabs outnumber the Israelis now. That means no state solution equals no Jewish state. Or, it turns into another South Africa, with a minority ruling the majority.jhay78;774170 wrote:Netanyahu will put Obama straight pretty soon when they meet in DC.

Ehhh, American Jews are not one giant voting bloc. It is very diverse. Between Jewish friends I have it is a 50/50 split on approval of the Presidents. Young Jews today do not see Israel as the older ones due. They grew up with a strong Israel and do not see a point in the occupation.
All of this said, I still blame both sides for not obtaining peace because in view neither sides really wants peace. Both leaderships do not want to make those tough choices or decisions on the matter and enjoy the viscous cycle. -
I Wear Pantsmajor, that's because a tiny concession of land doesn't stop all the other crap that Israel does to Palestinians. If you think it's a one way "oh poor Israel" street your eyes are closed.

majorsparkI think the Israelis should handle their Palestinian problem like we did with the American Indians. Herd them up onto reservations on the most worthless pieces of land they can find within their borders. Then let them operate casinos on the reservations. Give them all kinds of tax exemptions. Everyone will be happy and the Jews will have a great place to gamble and get cigarettes on the cheap.

I Wear PantsAnd there's the Republican "family values" way right there.

Conceding the Gaza Strip was not a tiny concession for Israel. A historic enemy controls the southern border. The coast penetrates 25 miles into Israel. That would be conceding 13% of their coastline at the time of possession of the Gaza Strip. The Israelis do however retain maritime control over all 195 miles of coast. Gaza is roughly 140 sqmi in area. Israel 8,500.
Similarly it would be like the US conceding Washington state. Similar in land area and sharing a foreign border though not with a historic enemy. Or conceding Florida. The us would have to concede 1,700 miles of land coastline. Point being Israel is a very small state. Conceding control of Gaza was big for them strategically and geographically.
Name for me one nation in the history of mankind that does not have blood on its hands. My eyes are wide open to the realities of this world. I do however have enough discernment to separate the sheep from the goats.I Wear Pants;774414 wrote:If you think it's a one way "oh poor Israel" street your eyes are closed.
Context here is conceding Gaza. Hamas now controls it. They are openly hostile towards Israel and engaging in random offensive hostile actions against them. Its just another foothold in their campaign to drive the Jews into the Mediterranean Sea. They will not stop until they are dead or the last Jew is driven into the sea. -
I Wear PantsIsrael is also openly hostile towards Palestinians.
I don't have a horse in this race. I think they're both wrong. -

When you say "openly" hostile do you mean the Israelis randomly fire inaccurate rockets into civilian areas with no apparent military targets?I Wear Pants;774697 wrote:Israel is also openly hostile towards Palestinians. -

The Israelis also openly allow the practice of any religion with their borders. If that's not hostile, I don't know what is.
Now the Saudis, Syrians, Jordanians, Egyptians, etc, etc, all of whom have laws against conversion from Islam, and are openly hostile, ERR, I mean friendly, to other religious groups (especially Jews & Christians)- now those nations have got things right. -
WriterbuckeyeIsraelis are awful compared to the peace loving Palestinians.
After all, you have to believe only in peaceful ways if you elect Hamas to lead you.
