The Ruskies want a deal on missile defense, mainly a legal treaty that the SM-3 won't touch their nukes. Which the U.S. won't do unless the Russians agree to limits on their tactical nuclear weapons. And even then, the U.S. probably won't sign a legal treaty saying that.QuakerOats;1135390 wrote:ptown, how do you square this up:

Basically, what the President is saying, is any discussions on missile defense or nuclear arms reductions will have to wait until after the election due to 1. The President does not have the manpower to head into discussions, and 2. It makes no sense to head toward a deal when no way anyone in the Senate will touch it.
What the adminsitration will offer is to allow the Russians to see the burnout data of the SM-3 Block II B to show it can't hit a Russian ICBM, which it can't. Plus, we will invite the Russians to participate in the NATO system. (Radar mainly)
The President is not going to cave on missile defense, not at all. He is not suddenly going to kill the SM-3 Block IIB. He just wants to get a hell of a lot of the Russians before we start any dialogue on regional missile defense architecture.
So, I didn't and wouldn't make anything out of it. -

How much is gas right now? Did it double in 3 years because of increased demand or decreased supply? Oh, it didn't, that's right. How did the DOW break 13,000? Is the economy booming all of sudden? Oh, 20 million+ are still unemployed. I guess it is just crazy speculators gambling with grandma's retirement money, right?BoatShoes;1135556 wrote:Almost half a decade of "imminent inflation" and counting... -

Indeed, I'm glad the Dow is up, but it's because that's the "safest" place to mark money right now for investors here and overseas. What else are you going to do with your savings. Bond rates are in the crapper, interest rates are still being artificially low and if you hide it under your mattress you are left with inflation at the gas station and the grocery store.Cleveland Buck;1136590 wrote:How much is gas right now? Has it doubled?Cleveland Buck;1136590 wrote:How much is gas right now? Did it double in 3 years because of increased demand or decreased supply?
It's been steadily increasing since about 2003-4 (in large part due to increased demand). On April 10, 2006 it was $2.76/ga (Midwest avg). April 7, 2008 it was $3.40. April 12, 2010 it was $2.93. Last week, $3.98. That's an annualized increase of 6.3% from 2006. -

I went from $1 to $4 while they blew up the bubble in the 2000s. Then fell below $2 after the bubble burst. Now it is $4 again 3 years later even though supplies are as high as they were at the peak and demand is lower than it has been in at least 20 years.gut;1137227 wrote:Has it doubled?

This is a crock of Santorum. Global demand for gasoline is way up over the last 10 years. US demand is up slightly as well. US refineries are antiquated, but running at about 80% capacity.Cleveland Buck;1137387 wrote:I went from $1 to $4 while they blew up the bubble in the 2000s. Gas pricing will not go down because the gas companies will dial back production to keep thier order files and delivery times long.
Even if oil goes back to 80.00 per barrel, you will only see a modest decline is gas prices.
Maybe Obama shoould declare a national energy emergency and prohibit the export of gasoline  -

You have to pay attention to the seasonality. Demand fell off a cliff in the great recession so of course there was some over correction. But the fact is it's only increased an average of 6% a year since 2006.Cleveland Buck;1137387 wrote:I went from $1 to $4 while they blew up the bubble in the 2000s. Gas prices are not determined by US demand, it's a global curve. China and India are using more and more every day. Article just the other day that even the Saudis are using a lot more of their own oil. -
QuakerOatsNEW YORK/WASHINGTON, April 2 (Reuters) - Higher gasoline prices have cut demand in the United States to the lowest level for the month of January since 2001, data for from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed on Monday.

http://www.infowars.com/cispa-hr-3523-the-new-sopa/Due process? Probable Cause? Screw that. Some US legislators are intent on being able to monitor all of your online activity, lurking in your internets like pedobear at a playground. The bill H.R. 3523, or Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), appears to be the next brewing threat to internet privacy and freedom.
Accord to the EFF, the bill contains “sweeping language [that] would give companies and the government new powers to monitor and censor communications for copyright infringement. It could also be a powerful weapon to use against whistleblower websites like WikiLeaks.”
As long as “cyber security” is cited as a cause for violating your rights, the bill would apparently give a green light to governments and companies who wish to spy on user activity. ISPs, search engines and social networks would be able to make your data available to government agencies, leaving you with virtually no privacy.
“It effectively creates a “cybersecurity” exemption to all existing laws.”
The Republicans, Democrats, and their hybrid king Barack are not going to stop. The free flow of information on the internet is one of the last obstacles to their goal of absolute state power. The media knows better than to cover the story this time, so people will have to spread the word. -
