District Shockers!!

Tapper had nothing to do with it. There was NO WAY criteria for two was met, time was irrelavant. Rooney blew that match. Main referee verbally and physically showed no points. AFTER the buzzer Rooney insisted it was two. Main ref even gave an initial shocked look at even the suggestion. Main ref had the right call but not the coconuts to make it. Huge problem all weekend as the assist officials seemed to overrule their partners all weekend. More points put on and taken off than I have ever seen.Dirtyscramble wrote: The Strope call was horrible, if the tapper would have tapped the reff quicker then they would have never called it 2 terrible
It is obvious that the good ole boy system is in place in the Central Ohio officials district. The officiating was HORRIBLE all weekend. I hope it was the farewell tour for the whole crew. NOT A SINGLE ref at the Darby district deserves to be working this weekend and that includes those that will wear their pretty red sweater vests as scorekeepers. Even their rotation was suspect. Officials rotated in pairs and it was obvious who was the "dominate" of the pair. Cut expenses in half and eliminate half those contracts as the assistant official was/is a complete waste. If you don't have the grapes to make and stand by the call get in the stands.
The selection process has to either be addressed, audited or simply overhauled. It was so bad that RR almost looked like he belonged.
Then again, this is a complete new thread. -
Turk182!Overall great weekend of wrestling at Darby, as usual. There is so much talent in Central District, including the kids that always come from Centerville. ...but ...
As I digress, I have to agree with some of the reffing comments. Strope from Lancaster was totally screwed by a horrible call, and I also agree that Luft got totally screwed in his "go to" match. Absolutely astounding that these guys think they are why everyone comes, and not the wrestlers. There were several other bad calls during the day. The poor kids that got screwed out of a ticket to the Schott are devastated. And one particular horrible ref that cost several kids their ticket will likely post some sentimental bull of a post that shows how much of a humanitarian he is about putting his arms around a kid crying in a hallway (probably after same said official just screwed him out of his shot - to the Schott)...what a joke. He knows his stuff, but is simply the most arrogant and pompous horses rear end that I've seen. (and I am sure he was the assistant on the Strope call).
It's a joke and a shame. I think it was summed up by the total lack of any kind of recognition by the crowd when the refs were announced before finals. I swear I heard a cricket.
Good luck to all the kids from the central district this week! -
USMCdevil05LOL! great post turk! Officiating was terrible.

Not quite sure which arrogant and pompous horses rear you are referring to, but Rooney was the assistant that blew the Strope call. I think that is his name. Same guy that blew the Fox-Hoppel heavyweight title match in the Schott a few years ago to a chorus of boos.....Only explanation is that he must be one hell of a politician. He was not alone. Collective the group flat out stunk up the joint.Turk182! wrote: Overall great weekend of wrestling at Darby, as usual. And I agree the lack of recognition spoke volumes! -
Guru2another big shocker was seth mccurdy (103) from hayes. he was ranked 14 in the brakeman and went 2 and out. what happened there?
-
USMCdevil05He lost to edwards and then to spearman.
-
Bam175Glad we were away from the central district officiating this weekend.....it was bad enough at sectionals......the east refs were at least consistant and didnt take any matches away from any kids .........

Turk182!shank- I could be wrong on the Stope match, but the one I am referring to was definitely THE Match Official on the Luft match, and in on several other horrible calls this weekend. I don't know, maybe he was the Match official, because I'm not sure, but I think those two were paired up all day?
I do remember that Hoppel-Fox match a few years ago. Actually, vividly, because I had my coat on and heading for the door and stood in the aisle above to watch that one before I ran for the bus! I could not believe that call, either. The entire bus was talking about it all the way to the parking lot! Another example of an official deciding a match.
The trouble with the sport is that many of the calls are subjective, not really like baseball (not counting balls or strikes, of course) or basketball...more like calling holding in football, I guess. The HS call for OB is so bad. It needs to be more like college somehow. Either all in or all out, or something. (that's an entire new thread). And with all of the new funk going on, "control" is getting harder and harder to establish, IMHO. Tough calls, no doubt, but 1. get it right, this is for all the marbles and 2. don't let the coaching staffs ref the matches for you.
And Spearman is very good, and quite frankly, he got shafted this weekend in a match too, as I recall ! -
ShankapotamusTurk, Finney and his partner had the Luft match with Finney as the official. Different pair had the Strope match.
-
Turk182!Well, I think you have the answer to your original question...
AND - I also agree with above post, that the "tapper" missed the official on the first swipe, and had to re-tap him. I really believe that caused the whole problem in that particular call. I know it costs more, or maybe you lose your assistant ref for the last 10 seconds, but the "tapper" should be a "ref", not a volunteer or even worse yet, a kid! (although did not see any kids working tables at Darby this weekend...but have in regular season tournaments.)
I did however see an example of great officiating where the official went to the table and asked the tapper "did you get me early, right on time, or a little late"...the guy must have been honest and said,"well maybe a little late", because the ref came back and waived it off and it WAS the correct call. That was a great job and that's how it should be done...talk it over and get it RIGHT! -
Snakeskins84Let me be upfront and say I am a TV fan but the Luft match did bother me for 2 reasons..First of all it was not a TD and then 2nd of all when Luft said something and stomped his foot he was immediately assessed a 1 pt. penalty..He didn't curse or carry on..The official overreacted..With this being a go to match and recognizing the intensity the official should not have overreacted..And by the way Luft lost by 1 pt...Thank you Mr.official, you cost the kid a trip to state..I don't want to hear any justification, you were just flat out wrong..

cruiser_96How noone has mentioned bad officiating and the Longwell/McDougle match in the same sentence is beyond me. If not overall bad officiating, then at least the CRAZIEST call I have ever witnessed in my short history of going to wrestling tournaments. I thought Moody was going to come even more unglued than he already did.
-
JAKAHow bout in the finals at 130 when both Shivener and Taylor thought the match was stopped because Taylors arm was nearly broken off! granted Shivener would have still won soundly, the ref definately should have protected Taylor alot more.

Absolutely the worst!cruiser_96 wrote: How noone has mentioned bad officiating and the Longwell/McDougle match in the same sentence is beyond me. And guess who was officiating it? You got it, the same two clowns that have been scorched on this thread.
It was ironic that Longwell and Strope both got screwed on bad calls and ended up having to square up for the go to match against each other. Longwell was nails in that match. He let a bad situation turn in to motivational fuel to drive him to state. -
CthelitesNot to pile on these 2 clowns(but I will because they deserve it!)
They hit a kid with stalling with 3 secods to go to force overtime after the kid had built back to base after getting broken down 3 times in the last 20-25 seconds.
For the life of me, I don't have any idea on what stalling is anymore. There were times when I saw a kid just turtling up on bottom and the top guy is out to the side trying to run stuff and the TOP guy gets hit???? -

State qualifier Sr Terry(But) also didn't make it out.USMCdevil05 wrote: I agree. That 112 class was super tough! 2 great kids didn't make it out. -
Punisher112How about 215 at Claymont. Chase Redman not rated anywhere. Takes 1st place In a strong weightclass.
-
falcon81I was sad to watch 2x Spring from Loudenville not get out his senior year. Great kid. I also thought Fortune would get out at 119.

Yes i agree. Both of them should have atleast taken 3rd.USMCdevil05 wrote: Luft and Strope were screwed on bad calls by the refs! -
ksig489Try to get a stalling call on the top man in the East district. Wont happen.
-
ShankapotamusStrope had his chance for 3rd and was soundly beaten by Longwell. No excuse, Longwell deserved to win. Of course, the match started by Strope being awarded a penalty point and then the puppet master pulled the string and it was taken off the board. I for the life of me can not figure out how an official can make a call on what he saw only to have another official tell him he didn't see it. Kid must have felt like he was fighting the entire world the whole weekend.
-
USMCdevil05
Yes I was talking about him and Strope from that 112 class.Cthelites wrote:

alaahWe had our share of bad central districts officials at Heath also............
There was alot of the "good ole boy" networking going on too.
Saw officials start counting back points immediately with out even looking and from his feet, then in the same match when the other wrestler's back was exposed the same official took his time getting around then awarding a reversal then deciding to count backs. Seemed to be directed towards certain teams, and coaching staffs........
Experienced alot of it at the Utica Sectional too.
They need to be policed........ -
RefmanFirst off....Turk 182 and Shankapotamus....the name my name is spelled Feeney.
As far as my calls being terrible or that I am arrogant or pompous...I welcome you to sit with me , anytime, anyplace and go over ANY call you want to as we watch video and then make the same statements. Its about criteria. Plain and simple. I have no dog is any fight nor care who wins or loses. I would summarize that you on the other hand do in one way or another. I dont hide behind a screen name. Everyone knows who I am and my email and phone is out there for anyone to call and discuss anything they choose too.
Bash me or any other referee all you want...but until YOU are in our shoes, seeing what we see, knowing what we know, you will NEVER truly understand why we make the calls we make nor will you understand the criteria.
Did I see "bad" calls this weekend? Yes. Were all the referee's on the same level? No. We wont please everyone as long as someone wins and someone loses.
My class for new referees starts tonight by the way....for any of you that wish...email me or call me and if you are a poster on here and you are one of the bashers hiding behind a screen name...I'll pay for your fees -
Tony Meadsee guys, if you ask refman his criteria for a call he will glady tell you LOL goodluck at state boys! dont let the match be close enough where a questionable call will ruin your chance for a win!
