D-III Northwestern Sectional 2010

  • 1_beast
Well lets open up a little sectional talk...bring More than just the WCAL teams into the chat. Lets hear from everyone. This looks to be a slobberknocker. I see a few State quality kids that may not get out.

Lets get the sectional chats going. We still have WCAL, and I think OCC and Pac Championships...but Sectionals is 9 days away. The pinnacle of the season is upon us:

    Black River
    Canton Central Catholic
    Chippewa
    Dalton
    Hillsdale
    Loudonville
    Manchester
    Mapleton
    Northwestern (West Salem)
    Norwayne
    Orrville
    Smithville
    Triway
    Tuslaw
    Waynedale

I say we talk about individual weight classes. Who are the top contenders in each weight???
  • 1_beast
    Right off the snap....Raber (orr) 2nd D-II 171 2009 and Hall (Chi) D-III 4th 160 2009 ( 160lb weightclass)

    and

    Scheafer (NWN) 3rd 189 and Beam (Way) 2nd 171 2009 (189lb weightclass)

are 2 matches that make this worth the price of admission if they happen, there are plenty of solid wrestlers that could prevent these matchups.

Here's a building block for starters. Thought I'd better jump on this since we're not going to state as a team according to Bucksman. No particular order, just a place to start. Kind of hard to know who's out there from all the schools. I think we've only wrestled 3 or 4 of these teams and even at that they were missing studs etc. Good luck guys...it's goin' to be fun!!!

I think Logan will make it it to 135 after wrestling 140 and 145 most of the year for Tuslaw. I look for Tuslaw to get 10 to districts with Powell (103) and Eliett(152) in the line up now. What a loaded sectional!
  • Wildbear
Thanks falcon81. Again this is just a starting point to see what we're getting into!! No opinions for now just records. Top guys pulled from Brakemen and District predictions. You got kids with better records get them up here. I know Manchester's pretty tough but I know little about them being out of the local area (Wayne County).

    J. McCluggage 160 Waynedale 19-12 wrestled JV at start of season working his way into a slot on Wayndale Roster only lost 1 JV match I think.

It's time for some sec. talk, 4days away. Have some of the picks changed after this past weekend?
  • mt1514
    Falcon81,

Did Hunter from Manchester wrestle last saturday? If so, what weight?

    Thanks
  • OSU_09
Which weight classes have the most depth?
  • Wildbear
I tried to go over results for the weekend but with kids moving around in weight classes, kids sitting out with injury kind of tough. I have edited or adjusted the prediction roster to reflect what I've seen or know. Chippewa sat out the WCAL so not able to assess the whole team. Some weight classes pretty predictable for who's top two but looks like a real battle for the go to matches for 3rd and 4th.

    My champion picks:

    103 - Kyle Ferguson (Manchester)
112 - Scott Spreng (Loudonville) Can be fast and strong but has to bring it to beat Grier.
119 - Zack Nelson (Tuslaw) He just seems to win and has a history of it!
    125 - Josh Kapper (Manchester)
130 - Shane Brown (Manchester) Seems to have a strong record etc. but if Widder bring's his "A" game look out!
135 - Justin Petersheim (Waynedale) Been improving all along and wrestling with intensity. Hungry for a state run!
140 - Zane Nelson (Tuslaw) I've seen him wrestle when he's feeling good, fast paced, intense! With no weight cutting..will be trouble. Stanley (Waynedale) coming on strong since beginning of season will be good match up.
145 - Tyler Topp (West Salem NW) Very physical but slow. Lewis may pull it out with technique, smart wrestling.
152 - Zeb Beam (Waynedale) Been wrestling strong all season. Seems to find a way to win. Drake will give run for money but a big question mark
on health?? Elliot (Tuslaw) could be a sleeper here!
160 - Dennis Raber (Orrville) Hall is tough but Raber finds a way to the top. Can he handle the weight cut, hold stamina? Lost big to Utley. Has he adjusted? Held out for injury precaution over the weekend. This could be the big match of the weekend (maybe).
171 - Tyler Siegel (Waynedale) Have to give the nod. Solid record. Has beaten Remenaric twice but hear he's coming on strong!
189 - Kurtis Schaefer (Northwestern) Big win over Beam past weekend. Not even close.
215 - Justin Schafrath (Chippewa) Been solid all season and record shows it.
285 - Kyle Kelly (Manchester) Seems to have done well this season in big tournys. Richards is pretty solid though. Could be a good one. 3 and 4 spot wide open. I've seen a lot of these kids wrestle. Who brings the biggest heart and kicks it in gear will be moving on to Maple Heights! Good luck fella's the stands will be making some noise !!
  • swinginahammer
    Topp wrestled 152 at County
  • Wildbear
Yeah...I heard he was on a hunt for Beam, but couldn't find him ;). Maybe next year!

Although several weight classes have nice depth (112, 160, 171) it won't be surprising to see a few people migrate elsewhere for a district ticket.
The one class where nobodies going anywhere and is already crowded is HWT. This class will probably have 9 or 10 guys with winning records and 6 or 7 realistic contenders for advancement.
I think Kelly, Richards, Martin & Flinner will move on, but Gove or Reusser may have something to say about that. Kelbly, Neuendorf, Cary and Srock are major longshots for advancement.

just an opinion, not the gospel.

a few names that needs added to your list...
    125 Curt Moore(Nor)
    130 Logan Studer (Nor)

A group of us old Husky wrestlers are meeting up Friday night after sectionals. I wanted to extend an invite to my huddle friends or anybody who wants to talk wrestling & hang out. I would ask that we keep it to just adults please. We plan to go to the Wooster Tumbleweed shortly after the end of wrestling Friday night. Hope to see you there!

Wildbear. Nice list on the champs. Hard to argue. There's a few of those matches where my heart is leaning another way.

Theres no chance for Topp to go 152. Oh! Have I ever mentioned that Tyler excels at farming.

I got another chance to see the Orrville hwyt & he looks tough. Works with a purpose all 6 minutes. I would hate to see him get left @ home. What are the chances of getting all 4 guys to state out of this section? I know that that Dailey from Independence is tough.
  • 1_beast
Feeling the the need for the Weed...but if I were to make an appearrance, my identity, 1_Beast, may be compromised....i certainly wouldn't want to let the cat outta the bag. :) Maybe I can show up in disguise.

Show up as a Huskies fan. Or would you rather die a thousand deaths?
