1_beastlol Mt514.... i agree, i think most everyone in the gym did too. To many matches were NOT decided by the wrestlers!!!
Good Job Bears!!!
Good Luck to all the wrestlers advancing from Northwestern Sectional @ Maple Heights! -
mt1514Hope seigel is ok, would be a bummer if he can't perform up to his ability, and miss out on a oppertunity getting to the Schott.

Wooster RoosterThta one older ref was quite possibly thw worst I'v eever seen. He had woudl call penalty points in the final secodns for no apparent reason. When I saw him out there before the Hall-Raber match I cringed, They're both great kids, but let the wrestlers decide it, not your penalty calls that come out of nowhere. Seriously people were afraid what he'd call- it eas like he wanted to be the star, well you had your chance about 40 or 40 years ago guy. Now let these kids decide it, not your ticky tack, rabbit ears calls in the final seconds.

AtopthesummitCongrats to Tuslaw for beating the "mighty RELOADED BEARS" lol........Tuslaw is a young team that will be around for a few years. Looks like the BEARS just aren't re-loaded enough...sorry Bear fans. DA BEARS, DAA BEARS...
To me is to you as you say you aren't.^^ -

first period ref awards Hall with takedown then Raber with reversal then changed it to just a take down for Raber, then in second Hall rolled across his back and Raber was awarded 2 back points without any count and less than 1 second on his back. In third Hall takes Raber down and ref hits Raber with a fleeing call tying score with only seconds left. in overtime Hall take Raber down for win. frustrating match for both young men having to battle each other was hard but battling the ref as well... further note very classless act by Orville coach after the match going out in the hallway and screaming loudly about how they got screwed and Chippewa shouldn't even be there. No other schools said one word other than the fact they were happy to see the kids got to wrestle. maybe thats how they do things in div. 2 but in div.3 the schools try to support each other and don't cry. Orville hang your head in shame!golfman61 wrote: What happened in the Raber match at 160? I heard there were some bad calls to force the match to overtime? -
FlashYou mean no one said anything at the tournament. In previous FH forums there were a lot of people who cried and mostly WCAL fans and said they shouldn't be there, that the OHSAA was making an exception to the rules. Seems to me you want to blame everyone else: first the state for not finding you didn't wrestle enough duals, then Waynedale for getting an advantage at the state duals , now Orrville for complaining. I personally agree the Chip kids shouldn't be punished and be allowed to wrestle and I agree if what you said happened then it was unfortunate. Seems to be temporary frustration from a young coach after watching one of his wrestlers who put his heart and soul into it being denied. Although it wasn't right I'm also sure it didn't have anything to do with not supporting the other wrestlers from this district. I'm sure the coach will learn from this and his unfortunate remarks to the paper. At Orrville we don't hang our heads , but correct the situation and come back out and go at it again. Raber and Hall will get to meet again if they're the best then it will all work out. At Orrville we can count to 20.

Red RumWhat a wild sectional! Congrats to Tuslaw, a "young" team losing 5 seniors, next year they'll be really young? Anyway, nice showing, wicked freshman class.
The officiating was some of the poorest I've seen and I hate to say it, but it altered the outcome of more than a couple matches.
I have to wonder if Schaefer-Beam III will happen this week with Royal Brettrager in the field.
What's the word on Siegel? Is he going to be 100% for districts?
Maple Hts 112 field looks exceptionally tough. Grier better bring his "A" game and Harter needs a career performance. Good luck to both along with Spreng & Perez. -
falcon81Raber /Hall Match very good. Both very good kids . Consider both kids friends. Both kids need to learn from match. Raber, Never never never get out of your stance with only 20 seconds to go. The ref wouldnt have mattered then, and thats what "You" control. Hall, You had a little help from the ref IMO but you created your own luck and the call by taking a great shot in the end. Your both going to do great at districts and face each other again. Ignore the Ref bashing and excuses , it doesnt make you better. Raber had a good attitude afterwards ,don't look back. Hall enjoy the win but not to long. Refs have bad days, IMO that ref had a bad day, we all have them.
Coach Stanley your a class act and very gracious . Fun team race. Your fans are loyal but more than a little crazy!!LOl.. Ganging up on my brother in law Mr. Perez. Funny story!!LOL -

I didn't see him give Raber a reversal. He just waived off the takedown I thought WHICH WAS A GOOD CALL! He made the call too quick but it was amazing watching Raber's hips come out like that. I'm sure many officials would have gave that takedown. His butt was flat and Hall was in very good position for what looked like a secure takedown but just as fast as he went flat Raber legged under and came out on top. As for the rest of the match/tourney.... Lots of questionable happenings.82airborne wrote:

I think this should be an eye opener to the OHSAA/Coaches in how important it is that they vote on officials individually and not as a whole. Also FOR COACHES TO VOTE PERIOD! Lot's of good officials sat out this week and more next week. Hopefully next week will be better at Mentor/Maple Heights! -

I was just using them as an example since they got thrown into this division this year and they are the new teams. Realistically now that I've had time to think I'd say Loudonville goes south.... Waynedale goes south (Lots of Holmes County kids...Holmes county is the cut off. It is in the east district according to OHSAA)trifan wrote: Why should Triway go somewhere else when they are only about 15 min. away from this sectional? Orrville and Triway are much closer here than Manchester or CCC!
Hillsdale could go west. CCC east. Then leave the rest. IF Triway and Orrville stay D3. Loudonville is the for sure the one I'd move first. LONG DRIVE for those folks. -
truthtellerOHSAA should move them in this order--- ccc 1st ,manchester 2nd. loudonville 3rd, tuslaw 4th & if you need to move 5 make mapleton 5th & leave waynedale at northwestern.Just my opinion.
-
trifanDidn't really think Loudenville was that far away from Northwestern. I guess I was looking more at traveling time for the kids when I made my earlier post. I thought that Manchester and CCC probably had the longest drive time. Hillsdale and Waynedale are pretty close here too. I think sometimes those long drives back and forth wear on the kids.

So you'd like to see two weekends in a row of the county tournament?!?! I'd think it'd be more beneficial to get a few of the county teams out. Think it would really let the WCAL shine and get even more of the boys to districts and chances at states.truthteller wrote: OHSAA should move them in this order--- ccc 1st ,manchester 2nd. loudonville 3rd, tuslaw 4th & if you need to move 5 make mapleton 5th & leave waynedale at northwestern.Just my opinion.
According to mapquest. Loudonville is 39 minutes from NW'ern. 49 from Utica. I think they'd take that trade off. I really thought it was more of a drive from Lville to NW'ern than 40 minutes. If Waynedale were to go south that would also be closest one too but it's over an hour then heath for districts which is 30 mins longer than Maple Heights. So realistically the state probably wouldn't allow that one. Hillsdale could go to Huron or Plymouth. Manchester/CCC could just as easily go to Rootstown. I think it'd help the congestion out quite a bit getting a rid of a few of them. In my opinion I'd like to see county schools bolt but who knows if anything will be done. -

Heck Holmes County doesn't even acknowledge Waynedale and you think the state will.........ask someone who isn't from Waynedale what school districts are represented in Holmes County and I am willing to bet you get West Holmes and Hiland. BTW I would like to thank the Nelson Twins for inviting Jerod and Zeb up to practice at the barn I was told by the boys they will be going along with a few others. Thanks for being such as class act guys.WGBplayer wrote:

WGBplayerWell of course they won't acknowledge it because the high school is in Wayne County but a fair majority of students live with in Holmes County. I was using for the argument sake of sending them south. All of Holmesville is in there and at least half of Fredricksburg if not more is. If I was them I'd use it as an excuse to head somewhere else. Look at what West Holmes did. I'd want that too!

falcon81Swinhinahammer., I'll give the twins your compliment and yes we welcome any kid willing to work really hard from anywhere. We have Coach Doc Bennett from the OTC here at the house and Man cave for the week. Unfortunately both twins are down hard with Bronchitis , got shots today, in bed right now. Sucks but Zack wrestled sick all weekend still wrestled fairly solid.
On the schools that should move, Tuslaw should stay, we are close , The daily record has always been good and fair to Tuslaw. CC and Manchester for sure to rootstown. Loudenville out , Maybe. This sectional may be tough but it sure makes for a more exciting weekend and prepares the kids better for districts. It does hurt those kids on the edge that would have got out any where else. -
falcon81What was the biggest surprise of this sectional if any ? Opinions?
-
1_beast*7th and 8th seed at Heavyweight advancing-not surprising to me, but im sure to some
*Beam beating Scheafer-again surprised "some"
*Hall beating Raber-surprised "some"
* officiating being so terrible-unacceptable
*Tuslaw winning team title-I called it early in the season..but the mustangs/league called me a sandbagger.....hmmph
*Mullins not getting out- -
Red RumThe biggest surprises for me personally were...
1. highly questionable officiating
2. Mullins (215-WD) not advancing
3. Adamson (130-NWN) advancing
4. Orrville coaches prolonged gym & hallway tantrum
5. Drake over Beam (didn't see that one coming)
Grier/Spreng, Hall/Raber, Beam/Schaefer were anything can happen matches to begin with so I wasn't too surprised by the outcomes.
Heart goes out to Kelbly (HWT-SMV) wrestled well and nothing to show for it. Probably next years HWT favorite in the WCAL.
Gotta congratulate Tyler Topp, always overlooked and underappreciated. Way to make a statement. Keep it up.
As far as the sectional merry go round, it seems to me that Manchester, Chippewa & CCC would be the best candidates to go to Rootstown travel wise. That would leave NWN sectional with 12 teams and still a tough tournament. -
fb167I'm sure Manchester wouldn't mind going to Rootstown, they probably would have had a good shot at winning the title there this year.
-
rtherthrwyathnknwyaBiggest surprises:
1-Presence of sausages in the hospitality room at the beginning of finals
2-Two and out by Hanna Hall
3-Gove over Kelby (poor officiating considered, thought Kelby would win)
4-Forth place finish by Tyler Harter
5-The line to get in for finals. Pretty sure they had that working out different in their heads
Shocking number of "throw up" timeouts taken by different wrestlers at different weight classes on different teams. Part of me wishes that injury timeouts are at the official's discretion, but the other part understands that the fewer things in the hands of the ref the better off we all are. Ask Smithville.
Good luck to all this weekend. -
yupitsmertherthrwyathnknwya, thats asking for trouble. Leaving something like that into the officials hands would never work. Some (not all) cant get call right that are black and white, how in the world would they be profesional and non bias with something like that?

My shredded side agrees with you, but my frosted side wishes things were different. I guess the irrational fan in me gets aggravated with "throw up" timeouts. Such is life.yupitsme wrote: rtherthrwyathnknwya, thats asking for trouble. Leaving something like that into the officials hands would never work.
