He is a good kid, I wish him well. I know he is going to have a few tough matches this year. The perry Kid is pretty tough. I do believe he will win though. What schools are talking to him?

Enough to have helped him become better while at Ridge! ;)

He's a force, but pinning his way through the DI state finals is bold talk. He may not even pin his way through Sectionals and Districts.

He was only able to register an escape and 2 pt near fall vs. Akatsu at Pick North.

We'll get see them go at it again this Saturday at Jerome, then again at Westland (Sectionals) and Darby (Districts).

Not to nit-pick, but didn't he lose by default to someone it the City League last year. I thought there was a blast douple that was called a slam and the opponent did not continue. When I saw his undefeated record in the State program last year it struck me as odd, because I know he lost that match. Regardless, he's a good kid and I wish him the best of luck. 100 wins, not a big deal. State title, very big deal.

He already beat the Perry kid. Bitter got it right. I think I recall him losing because the kid stayed down and took the cheap win. 100 wins is good but I think with all these dual tournaments now a days we should bump up the win mark to 125 or so??? State title = huge deal! 100 wins now a days still a good feat but not so much anymore.

First of all, don't get me wrong here. A state title, placing at state or even a district title is a much bigger deal for sure when it comes to the sport of wrestling. However, I disagree that 100 wins doesn't mean much anymore when it comes to taking the measure of a young man.

One thing about this sport more than any other is the toll it takes on the body. I see some very very good kids who miss significant chunks of seasons or entire seasons and don't even get a sniff at 100 wins. Throw in the potential for the FUNK, ineligibility, missing weight and the frequent illnesses prevalent in an obviously close contact sport, and there are numerous factors that can keep even a great kid from stacking 100 wins.

Often, we even see state champions who fail to reach this milestone -- not because they aren't good, obviously, but because, well, it can be a long season and, "coach, maybe that shoulder should rest a few weeks before sectionals, you know?"

Instead, I humbly submit that while 100 wins may not necessarily be the ultimate measure of athletic dominance -- that's clearly defined by how far a wrestler gets in February and March -- what 100 wins does reflect is a kid's DEDICATION to getting better, TOUGHNESS to battle through injuries, FLEXIBILITY to perform against a wide range of opponents, WILLPOWER to keep making weight, DESIRE to fight just that much longer and win against a better opponent, and, yes, LUCK!

And, of course, it says CONSISTENCY -- the ability to do all those things four years running to the best of their ability.

The kids who can grind out 100 wins on the back of sheer DRIVE without as much talent as those who win state titles, well, those kids have something special. And when it comes to the qualities that I want in an employee, co-worker, soldier, boss or friend, I value those qualities listed above much more than the single-purpose TALENT and SKILL to win on the mat.

In other words, talent and skill will make you a great wrestler. Dedication, toughness, adaptability, desire, willpower and consistency will make you a great man.

Well said and I concur! Especially when, as a freshman, you aren't even in the lineup or you take a lot of beatings!!

Yeah, I knew he had already beat the Perry kid, but I think I was alluding to the fact that he would be tough to pin. Either way, Travis is a good kid, and Like coach Chuck said he is a funny, wrestling loving son of a gun!!
"SWIPE" Chuck, tell travis I just Internet Swiped him! He'll love it..

To get 100 wins and 2nd in the state as a junior seems pretty good to me.how many of you made it that far? Not me or just placed 1-8 or make it there

I didn't mean it as it's not a good milestone to reach or a goal! I meant it is easier now because of the more dual tournaments these days with guarenteed 5 matches. Back 10 15 years ago we saw a change from the traditional brackets to alot of dual tournaments. which you will give you more "opportunities" to win more matches because you are wrestling in more matches. I think it is an awesome thing, im not saying it's bad. I was just saying that there are alot more matches wrestled now and more opportunities for those wins. If that makes any sense. lol! None the less 100 wins is still a great milestone to reach and it should be noticed and celebrated!

I get where you are coming from....and add to that with the new state duals format, and those matches not counting against the points? Well you get the drift. Just curious.....what is the theoretical maximum number of matches a wrestler could conceivably get in a season now? Remember the Opfer kids at Sandusky SMCC? They routinely wrestled upwards of close to 65 matches a season. If they would have had the state duals too.....add a potential for another 9 matches? Now you are talking maybe a potential number of matches in the mid 70's? In one season? Granted this is an extreme case....but the potential is there for a wrestler to approach 300 career matches! Wrap your mind around that!

Still....I agree the 100 win mark should still be celebrated. There are so many variables that go into the equation.....Congrats!!

wow i didnt think i would get some of these replies just wanted to put it out there that the meat head has been one of the best in central ohio

A punk a%# coaching move in the league last year is one of his loses as a junior rules is rules but if you were there u saw the kid get up and get back on the line then a coach acting like a bi%$# to help try to get those advancement points to try to win the league title (good job on taking third btw)

you guys have fun on here picking it apart

coach1 ment to talk to you at licking heights just was to busy getting my a whipped with all these young guys looking good man hope all is well phyiscally u look good kid

My two cents, for what it is worth, is that 100 wins will always be an impressive feat and a great inidividual goal, but that folks will just sort of discount the accomplishment vs. what it meant in yester-year. Sort of like 1,000 rushers or hitting 50 home runs. Still impressive and nothing to sneeze it, just not quite a difficult as it used to be given changes in the game.

Just in case anybody looked at which team finished 3rd in the city to see which coach he was talking about, West actually finished 3rd in the city last season. I believe he is talking about the team that finished 2nd. I for one am a huge Gusan fan and was very disapointed with what happened that day.

Totally agree. That's why I have never had a problem with that loss not being registered on his record last year. Similar situation happened this year. My 182 slammed the Briggs kid. Ref called it illegal. Was close but probably was illegal. Instead of the herminator taking the cheap win he had his kid restart from bottom, take one second off the clock, and then had his kid call injury time so our kid still won the match. That's how you run a class program props to the herminator! War Tuscan!

Bewarethefatmanroll, Glad your kid won but the herminator's decision worries me. (you even said it was probably was illegal) Hopefully his wrestler was fine after the match.

the slam could have went either way, it was on the border, but I would call it illegal, and the kid was fine.
