gusan should be over 100

BeagoodsportThis quote is taken from the OHSAA website and attributed to Commissioner Dan Ross. “As you are aware, the OHSAA- and interscholastic athletics in general - is about educational athletics, meaning that wins and losses are secondary to the life lessons learned through school sports and that the values that school sports teach are paramount.” With this in mind, I wish athletes and coaches would realize that some kids who are competing for their schools are there to belong to something in their high school, to learn discipline and sportsmanship and build memories for life. Some kids know that they are not the most talented and walk on to the mat at times knowing that they are mismatched. For an athlete who is projected to be a state champion to let a kid up when he could clearly pin him and then push and shove him around the mat before slamming him so hard that he has to forfeit due to injury is classless and inexcusable. I call that kid a bully, not a good kid.
Bitterrunner-up;1379412 wrote:Not to nit-pick, but didn't he lose by default to someone it the City League last year. I thought there was a blast douple that was called a slam and the opponent did not continue. When I saw his undefeated record in the State program last year it struck me as odd, because I know he lost that match. Regardless, he's a good kid and I wish him the best of luck. 100 wins, not a big deal. State title, very big deal. -
BewarethefatmanrollUhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh? The quote doesn't apply at all to the situation or the match in question last year. You obviously have an ax to grind here. Way to be an internet ninja.

snugglyhippoWhen I first read this, I thought, wow, Dan Ross said that! But then I read closer and realized it was a bit of commentary by the poster. Don't know Gusan and I was not there so I would not comment on that event. I will say that I have seen him at times "not know his own strength" if you will, and I get really nervous when I see him wrestling a person who is horribly overmatched. Maybe I am just getting old. Mismatches that should not happen seem to be one of the greatest causes of injury I have seen in my time in the sport. Ever since I watched my best friend (220 lbs. of chewed bubblegum) wrestle Eric Poehler in 1991 as a freshman, I have worried about these mismatches...

It is what it is
Mismatches happen...in all sports...like a DVI football team playing a DII city league schedule...you do the best you can and compete! Gusan overpowers A LOT of kids, but he isn't dirty or a bully!!snugglyhippo;1386595 wrote:When I first read this, I thought, wow, Dan Ross said that! Snuggly, I feel your concern and have asked myself if I was getting old, but I realized I am much smarter about those situations. I think I know your buddy in that match, Maybe..snugglyhippo;1386595 wrote:When I first read this, I thought, wow, Dan Ross said that! wtf are you talking about it is the toughest sport out there phusically if you have a kid that is new or is in one of those mismatches DONT PUT HIM IN THE WAY OF A MONSTER PERIOD
i will say this my kid this weekend wrestled in the finals at cities vs alexander from northland kid is a beast my kid is a first year wrestler i told him to go hard and wrestle would i have been mad if he would of got hurt yes would i be upset if got embarrassed no i knew without a shadow of a doubt he was going to lose i talked to anthony personally and said dont be a bully and he was fine with that getting three or four takedowns then pinning my kid all was well
same boat last year vs westerville central hvy the coach asked travis to take it easy get some work but dont be a d&*$ about it two takedowns a half and that was it if you saw what happened explain why the kid got up and then got set untill his coachs were screaming sit down we need a trainer grow up either go hard or dont wrestle either way i dont care but dont take a person issue you got and try to use this as a platform -

I witnessed a superior athlete walk up to the athlete he had just injured and say "good match" and then stand there and laugh in his face - classless. -
Bitterrunner-upThere are classes people in all walks of life, it has very little to do with athletic competition.

nykcTook the words out of my mouth Bitterrunner-up
I also know of a wrestler who beat a kid that was wrestling in shoes with holes in them and the sole ripped. After this kid pinned him, shook hands with the coaches he bent down, unlaced his boots and gave them to the kid. -
BeagoodsportSeems to me this is a perfect place to talk about sportsmanship. Good for Anthony Alexander for taking the
High road. I wish him well. He has some amazing moves. -
BeagoodsportWhat a great story!

From your perspective, Travis is a bully and picked on the heavyweight from Centennial, slammed him and mocked him post match.
From Coach Chuck's perspective, Travis hit a legal blast double, that came down hard and was called an illegal slam, your kid (I am assuming you are affiliated with Centennial) popped right back up and ran to the line to restart the match, one of your coaches then coached the heavyweight to stay down so you could take the default win, and get team advancement points.
I was busy coaching my guy, so I can't comment on what actually happened. but Seeing that your heavyweight wrestled my heavyweight the following week at sectionals and was fine, and seemed no worse for wear walking around the rest of the tournament when I saw him that day I'll trust the word of Coach Chuck and everyone else who watched that match.
I know all about bullies in wrestling, and typically those kids end up getting what is coming to them. I know Travis, and I wouldn't classify him as that. A loveable knucklehead at times for sure, as most teenagers are, but I have to step up and defend him here at what seems to be your attempt at spite.
My heavyweight was terribly mismatched against him last year, we got blast doubled, we got tilted, we got lat dropped, and my kid was better for it. Travis didn't go out there with the intent to hurt my kid, as well as he didn't go out there with the intent to hurt the Centennial kid. You are entintled to your opionion, but you are trying to drag a kid's name thru the mud here, which isn't cool. -

The incident that I saw was this year and I doubt that those commenting on an incident last year saw what I witnessed. I witnessed unnecessary roughness and everyone that I know felt the same way. Not trying to
Drag anyone through anything. Maybe he was caught up in a moment and didn't know his own strength. But it wasn't cool ! -
Westie101Travis is a good kid and for you to call him a bully online, especially behind a screen name is just plain wrong. If I were Travis(especially his size), I would have torn that place apart after getting screwed over like that. If you think Travis was being a bully to a helpless kid, you should see what he did to the kid he wrestled in the state semi-finals.

coach1I was there it was a good throw the kid started cusing at Travis and so did the coach the kid was fine he got his feelings hurt because he didn't know what hit him.its just a parent that's upset their kid got hurt

Was the "incident" you witnessed called unnecessary roughness by the officials at the time?Beagoodsport;1387075 wrote:

USMCdevil2005You're all arguing over something that happened a year ago. Lol. Water under the bridge. Let it go.

coach1No the kid told the ref he didn't want to go on this happen last Thursday hd vs Dublin coff mom ran on the mat with a cane at travis AD had to stop her
-
Westie101I think some of us were talking about two seperate events. I thought everyone was talking about the dq incident at the ccl last year. I saw some pictures from the coffman match being discussed. Looks like the kid gave Gusan pressure and got tossed pretty good, probably didnt have a very soft landing. I can see how that would cause a mother to panic.

nykcWouldn't that make the mother the bully? Attacking a young man with a weapon. Kudos to the AD for stepping in and saving this young future state champ from central ohio
