Or as rassler said do it strictly by geography with no funny business.

That is my point. Do it by region and call it a day. So one region has 8 of the top 12 teams. And!?

    Whatever, dude.

The problem with switching Mount Vernon is that it doesn't look like geography, it looks like they were seeding with the Region breakdown. Set the Sectionals before the season. Seed them, top 2 come out and go to Regions, re-seed, champions go to state. And whoever is best comes out.

moving mt vernon was uneccesary and just gives critics another thing to point to. shouldn't have been done, imo. the only black mark in what appears to be a good first year for this.

setting the sub-regions before the season (and/or using cruisers strict geographical breakdown), and seeding them later, is a great idea and significantly lessens the possibility of someone calling favoritism, which is the kind of criticism that can really hurt a program like this -- which, overall, i really really like.

Why didn't Akutsu and Walker of Marysville wrestle? Walker sick or hurt? Would liked to have seen that.
I was also wondering why they didn't wrestle. What is going on with Dublin Scioto? They've been hammered by everyone this year. With as dominant as their freshman class was in middle school I thought they had a lot of talent to step into the lower weight classes. I know freshmen have to take their lumps, but they have not even been winning freshman vs. freshman bouts. It doesn't look like they are doing a very good job developing the talent. They gave up 8 pins and 2 tf's. Even their upper classmen were pinned. I've seen them a couple of times this year. I can't put my finger on it, but something is not right with the team... desire, coaching, something, I'm just not sure what it is. Tenth in the district and supposedly a young team last year, can't win anything this year.

Lots of attrition and injuries amongst that Davis team from a year ago. Of the 16 weight classes, 2 were 7th graders and 1 weight was always vacated. That leaves 13 remaining 8th graders to "move up". 4 wrestled as a side sport but no longer wrestle (1 was very good, the other 3 were .500 types). That leaves 9 remaining. Of those 9, one (McHugh) moved to Liberty (big, big loss). That leaves 8. Of that 8, two were injured early and have not wrestled much this year, and another (Michel - 103) just recently began his season and is 2-1 (I believe) in varsity action since returning to action. That leaves 5. Of those, 3 of them are at 220, 170, and 145. VERY tough weights for freshman. The two remaining are at 116 and 126. They were .500 type wrestlers last year. I wouldn't expect them to set the world on fire as freshman.

The top scorers on that Davis team were Michel (80), Scoliere (110), McHigh (126), Demas (134), Watson (205) and Lumpkins 245. Just about everyone else were .500 to .750 types. 8th grade dominant though, for sure. Of the above mentioned "big 6", 1 is still in MS, 1 moved/transferred, and 1 no longer wrestles. Of the other 3, 1 is out for the season with an injury, 1 just got healthy for the first time. The 6th (Lumpkins) has been dominant at JV at 220 and won a handful of varsity matches at 220.

Many of the kids who have been getting varsity starts as freshman (especially at the lower classes) were actually B wrestlers at Davis.

All that being said, Scioto will take their lumps next year for sure as well as the Jr class is very thin. The JVs, made up of all 9th and 10th graders, has finished 2nd in the past 2 tournaments they participated in. If these kids stick it out, I think they could have a season like Thomas Worthington is having, in my opinion. Solid line-up of upper classman = lots of victories.

The big hope is that they stick with it. Scioto has good-to-great feeders in what they get from Davis and the Little Irish program. The problem has been keeping them on the mat at Scioto.

I was looking at some of the matchups next week on the ohsaa site and they incorrectly have teays valley moving on with a 37-31 victory over gahanna on the bracket.

Quit this nonsense of waiting for your sectional assignment until Febuary. OHSAA needs to
TELL each school in October what sectional they will be in for both the individual and team tournaments. Run your team brackets as you would the individual tournaments- Section Champ qualifies for Districts and District Champs meet in 4 team bracket for the title. Three dates and you have your champion. Each region of the state would have representation. Why make it complicated?

I like this idea but why not only take the top 1 or 2 scoring teams from the sectional individual tournament, seed them, and have them all wrestle in a 4 or 8 team bracket for the title.

They will change it. Should have been that way though. Both teams match up well against each other. It was a god night of wrestling!

Agreed. He is a stud. He will definitely be the most decorated and successful wrestler in Dublin's wrestling history. He has a legitimate shot at being a 4 time state placer and 3 time state champ. Why would he end up at Coffman? He goes to Davis, the main feeder for Scioto.
