Division 1 Central District Championship at Hilliard Darby

Westie...I know you love The City League, and you know I respect your opinion, so who do you see Alexander beating to place?

    Noah Forrider
    Matt Hammer
    Angelo Amenta
    Mike Labry
    Nick Barber
    Mitch Newhouse
    Jake Ryan
    Adam Sams

I look at him as just outside of the top eight as far as skills go. Now, I guess he could place if a couple of them knock off each other, but it's hard to argue him being one of the eight best guys at the weight. I could see him taking eighth, winning in the first round and then losing to Barber in the quarters and then beating the winning of Ransom and Davis to place. Honestly, as I look at it, he got a great draw to place. Compare that to Matt Hammer (who has a win over Newhouse) who will likely win his first one and then lose to Forrider and then have to beat Ryan to place (same goes for Ryan and Newhouse who have to go through each other with the loser getting the loser of Forrider/Hammer to place).

I think he can beat labry, amenta, sams, and maybe even Hammer. The kid is hard to wrestle.

Miller/Delande- Yea Delande might have stalled but that's why he was hit 3 times for it, so it's not like he wasn't punished for it. In my opinion the best kid won. He will definetly have to step it up this coming weekend, but I still think the best kid won. If I were Miller I would have kicked him and made him wrestle me on my feet and psuhed the acton a little more.
  • Bitterrunner-up
I don't think he can beat any of those people.
  • Bitterrunner-up
let me correct that, I'm sure he can, but I don't think he will.

I don't remember posting that he will place, if I did my mistake. My post was more directed towards the comment that he looked sloppy.

And after yesterday's action, I just had to make a shout out to one of them...cthelites. I know he and his son are really hurting right now. This sport brings tremendous highs, and unfortunately, at times, the lowest of lows. It seems almost cruel that the wrestling gods could snatch a state berth away with 1 second remaining in the match....literally, 1 second. But that is reality...and that is the sport of wrestling.

When I talked to cthelites yesterday, I did not have the words.....what can you say? But I wanted to let him know that I've been thinking about he and his son today. I know the hurt is very real now. However, I'm convinced that this will make it all the more sweet when that kid walks out of the tunnel at the Schott one year from now.

    Hang in there guys!!
Thnx brother! And thnx to the many other well wishers that reached out to us.
The hurt runs deep! To see all the blood sweat and tears your kids go thru for a season and let it come down to that one defining second is cruel to say the least.
Im really proud of Jake and how he handled it with class. Going out for the 5th place match was very tough for him and he battled thru it.
We had a talk and I told him how some things in life arent going to go his way and wont seem fair but some how you will need to plow thru it. Going thru this adversity will build character and make him stronger in life. The sun will rise and set tomorrow and life will go on.
We talked about being a state alternate and being ready just in case...the last thing he wants to do is cut down again, but sure enough the kid went to the gym today and is back with his team right now working out again just in case. I dont think I could do that! The kid is taking it better than me lol.
I love you son! Im so proud of you! You had a great season with some big wins over some great kids and some tough losses along the way to great kids!

Congrats to Seth McCurdy on what was an unbelievable move and match! I didnt get a chance to see you last night, but told your Dad to tell you.
    Good luck at State Seth!

Lites - I passed along your well wishes to Seth. What a great match. I would like to thank you and your family for being the great people you obviously are. Not only did our sons have as close a match as is possible our families just happened to be sitting beside each other in the stands. Good luck Jake in the future.

Good to hear from you.....very classy!

As far as cutting down one more time "just in case", ask the district alternate who had the opportunity to make it into the district bracket last Friday at Darby when one of the wrestlers from his sectional did not make weight. Oh wait.....that's right......he did not practice all week and was not even in attendance at Darby when his name was called over the loudspeaker. Very few ever get a 2nd chance, and it's a shame that his was wasted. I'm so glad Jake is not going to go down that road! Probably the best thing to get right back into that room!

As far as "the kid is taking it better than me".....definitely the truth. Kids are very resilient....more so than we give them credit for. Tougher on us old folks because we love them so much.....but then that's not a bad thing.

I have been able to watch Donatelli quite a few times this year and I have been a fan. His match with McCurdy was beyond exciting to watch. They went at eachother like warriors and like men. It was going to be a sad sight either way. Congrats to McCurdy and also to Donatelli since he has handled it so well.

Great posts, guys. I love the positive vibes.

Also, at 152, I failed highlight/give props to freshman state qualifier L. Staten. Great job and congrats to you and yours.

watched the video at least 10 times, MY GOSH it was close but never was pinned. Kudos to Sunkle for losing his first match then coming back to major quality opponent such as Tullius and Deluse, and then winning 9-2 with about 30 seconds when he gets tossed fighting off his back to state qualification with a final score of 9-7. Congrads, never seen a kid practice as hard as he does. so intense in the room and on the mat and then humble off the mat.

I second that. Classy response, Mr. Donatelli. Lesser men refuse to give credit to the better wrestler on a given day and instead make excuses for the loser. It's nice to see someone set a better example.

As the mom of a two time State Alt, I absolutely feel your pain cthelites! The heartbreak of being THIS close and missing is horrible. Jake isn't done and he will reach the state tourney as well. I applaud him for handling it with class and for getting back and ready to go just in case... you never know.

From my angle Sunkle wasn't pinned. Man, that kid has gotten good over the years, hes going to be Dangerous this coming weekend, and don't even get me started about next year...

started wrestling as an 8th grader. The amount of work he puts in is tremondous. Look for him to do big things this weekend and even bigger his Senior season!

Equate Alexander's "sloppiness" to his lack of experience. He's a third year wrestler. This is his first full year of Varsity wrestling. Just think how good he would be if he had started in middle school.

A pretty disappointing Day 1 at the Schott yesterday for the Darby District. Round 1, 20-36 record, Cons 1 12-24....that's 24 two and out, ouch!
  • Cthelites
    Ouch is right!!!!
  • HilliardDad
only 4 Hilliard boys left out of 9 who went as well. 3 still in championship bracket though!
  • maddog140
Yeah central district still has a wayyyyys to go. But maybe now that we are only sending our boys, not combined with another area, more kids will get exposed to what it takes to not just get there but place, we will start elevating of game!
  • james_holter
Rahmini, Riley, Gutierrez and Wimer representing well!
