to my knowledge Lyltle and Majoy aren't in the Garfield District, i'm like 100% sure, but i forgot about Rodgers. So at Garfield i predict Rodgers, Srock, Kelbly, and Orr HWT all with placement potential to make the showRed Rum;1088535 wrote:Jesus H,
I leave and the thread goes friggin' viral.
Bloody-
friends like you completely erase the need for enemies.
BearBoy-
All the tough HWTs are coming out of Garfield. Lytle(projected champ) & Majoy(ranked #1). Along with Srock, Kelbly and Rodgers. Thats 5 of Brakemans top 7.
The NWN sectional will probably get 1 or 2 down to Columbus. Although it would be cool if it played out your way.

Laugh it up, gimp. -
hoppyLet the true battles begin!! Good luck to all the wrestlers in the upcoming weeks. Good moves on the part of Waynedale for a possible team championship at state. Losing my son to knee surgery for the second year now (lucky still has sr. year) I might jump on that band wagon. Our few parents that show up usually get stuck sitting by the Waynedale group anyhow. I think other schools use us as a buffer.
Just curious as to what weight Orr is at. -
UncleGrizzlyOrr is slang/short for Orrville.

Get out your pencil and write this down. The state provides the software for the tournament. The results are uploaded directly to the state via Baum. Baum is in complete control of the information. The software they provide is so archaic the you can't export the info to PDF or anything.CoachB63;1088544 wrote:gee you mean the technology is in place to be able to post Brackets, in a timely manner????????????????
BAAAAhHHHaaaaaaaaaa
Please take this knowledge and direct your bracket complaints to Baum.
As to the weight class changes. They were changed based on nationwide research. The regional affect is complete irrelevant. Give it 10 years (cuz I'm sure we'll all still be debating wrestling then) and I'll be able to point to more weak state champs from 125-145 back in the day rather than ones from 170-HWY -
RedRider1I wonder if Genoa's wrestling coach will be "a little disappointed" upon hearing the news of Beam dropping to 160.
You know...like Waynedale coach Louie Stanley was "a little disappointed" that Orrville's Dennis Raber dropped down to 171 and didnt wrestle Jonathan Beam at a tri-match a few years ago.

Huh. -
RedRiderTraditionBearboy you are correct that Lytle (Swanton) and Majoy (Huron) are not at the Garfield District, but they do come out of the same district so they will be in the different half brackets in the state tournament (assuming they are 1 and 2, or 1 and 3).
The nice thing about heavyweight at the Garfield district is that it is relatively deep.
As I see it Srock from Chippewa is the best wrestler in the heavyweight division at Garfield. I think he is frustrating at times because he is so confident in his ability. Due to his confidence in his ability he is very comfortable in close matches. In watching him he has another level that you rarely get to see in his matches. An example of this is in the finals at the Bill Dies Sharp from West Branch was able to hold him down in the first 30 second tiebreaker. In the second 30 second overtime Sharp escaped and it looked Srock came live hitting an inside trip to win with just seconds left. I think he is better than what he shows, but is content winning close matches and that could hurt him at some point.
Rodgers from Wellington is a returning State qualifier. He was 4th at the District to Flinner. At the Chippewa Invitational Tournament Srock pinned him in the first period. He also took 6th at the M.I.T. I would say he is tough and has an inside track to qualify, but I would not say he is a lock.
Zuberer from Kirtland is an interesting individual at this weight class. He was 5th at the District last year and lost twice to Flinner (the first by pin and the second an 8-4 decision). I have not had the opportunity to watch him this year and he is somebody I would keep my eye on at districts.
Kelby from Smithville is another interesting individual. He went 1-2 at districts last year. When I watched Kelby last year I thought he was going to make a bigger impact at the district level. Kelby runs in the 6'4 to 6'5 range and he should be able to run underhooks and body locks and dominate the competition with his leverage, but he just does not score very well. With that being said, his height allows him to keep the score of his matches with good competition low and gives himself a chance to win. I think he is a borderline state qualifer and if he can start to generate some more offense against strong competition he could be a 4-5 placer at state.
Lehtomaki from Orrville is a senior and wrestling in his first year of varsity for the past 3 years he has wrestled behind state placer Ruesser. He was a relative enigma until he took 5th at the Top Gun this year and it put himself on the map. A week later he was pinned by Srock in the second period. He is as strong as a bull ox, but sometimes his inexperience can hurt him. He will have to win a big match/upset somewhere at the district to qualify for state.
Dressler from Garfield Garretsville was 1-2 at the district last year. I was able to watch him wrestle at the Dies where he took 7th place. He is another tall wrestler, but I do not think he possesses the athleticism of Kelby. His height could give his opponents some difficulties and he could pull out some upsets and put himself in a position to qualify. Right now I see him on the outside and he will need to win a big match to reach state qualification.
Some others to think about: Mild (Brookfield) and Hanzel (Manchester) -

Thank you for pointing out the obvious information regarding the brackets. If you want to see the brackets walk out in to the hallway where they are posted and get a look for yourself.
Here's another helpful tip for those of you attending a sectional this weekend or may have a son wrestling in such an event... forget about the brackets, the programs, and the price of popcorn, rather focus on getting to the mat and wrestling harder than your opponent. Winning solves all problems (well, most problems anyway).
You're welcome in advance. -

Interesting you mention that.....but have you ever thought that Bears Coach may be disappointed Felipe isn't at 160?RedRider1;1088946 wrote:I wonder if Genoa's wrestling coach will be "a little disappointed" upon hearing the news of Beam dropping to 160.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious...the amazing thing is, as a fan....Im interested in more matches before/after my son. A program is handy to look at brackets and follow things. (stay with me here). At State tournament...there are 10 mats and 3 divisions....A program is very helpful in showing match numbers and following "other" kids of interest!THE4RINGZ;1089030 wrote:Thank you for pointing out the obvious information regarding the brackets. Always providing insight from Apple Creek
Edit: I can only worry about the the my son, his teammates, brackets, programs and the price of popcorn as they wont let me on the mat to wrestle as you suggest...only the kids are allowed!
Hope this helps -
1_beastGood Luck to all the kids that have worked their butts off to achieve their dreams. The time has come....take care of business 1 match at a time!
Bears...keep moving forward and keep your heads up! This is step 1 of the New Season!!!!
