Northwestern DIII Sectional
-
Red Rum189
Contenders:
Gotta go with Kurt Schaefer (NWN) 22-2 with Zody (TRI) as runnerup.
I think the other two placers come out of the following group.
Eisenhour (CHI)
Hilty (SMV)
Miller (CCC)
Badertscher (HILL)
Farabaugh (TUS)
Waynedales 189, can't find the name. -
Red Rum215
Contenders:
Ryan Weber (LOU) 25-5 is my pick here.
I also see Wyant (ORR), Cleaver (WD) making it out.
The last spot----
Wiley (SMV)
Sas (BR)
Shook (CHI)
Zimmerly (NOR)
Altenberger (NWN) -
Red RumAnd last but not least, the double bubba division...HWT
The Northwestern sectional once again has a large contingent with winning records.
Eddie Flinner (TRI), Sam Reusser (ORR), Zach Srock (CHI) & Paul Kelbly (SMV) are my picks to advance. Flinner is my pick to win but they could finish in any order.
The other guys that have a chance to spoil my predictions are Joey Benzo (CCC), Austin Cary (LOU) and if the stars align--Joey Workman (NWN) -
Red RumThats my 2 cents on the Northwestern sectional, I'm pretty sure I left out some people or got them in the wrong class.
These predictions are meant to create a platform for analysis and discussion. I'm no Brian Brakeman, so cut me a little slack if I f****** this up to badly. Here we go--------lets get some discussion going. -
1_beastRedRum you have done a fine job here!!! To throw in my 2 cents on the 2nd 7....
145 Seems to be pretty set in the foundation you have set, even if some kids drop from 152, i dont see much changing.
152 looks prettty cut and dry, the top few spots look to be secure with several bubble wrestles looking to battle out or drop down looking for an easier route
160 a class loaded with equal talent IMO, question here, Does Halll drop to 160 in chase of that elusive title.
171 Hall and Bender will be a clash...once again, im not sure if Bryson can make the cut to 160, but if he wants that title hes gonna need to get out of the 171 bracket, after these 2 white and Hilty look to be next best
189 Does Zody or Badertscher have enough fuel to push Scheafer?
215 Weber and Wyant....Cleaver moves on too. Wyant looking to return to columbus, conditioning is a question here...i know its 215, but if you get a kid with a motor...upsets could happen in the 3rd period
Double Bubba~ Looks spot on.
One thing i have noticed yet again this year is the incredible disparity in mat time. You have some kids with 30+ matches ALREADY, at this point in the season, while other are punching the clock half for as little as half that amount. The mat time is effective in developing frshman or newer kids. The main work is done in the offseason, but live matches in season, and you will see kids getting better.
THANKS RedRum!!! Very insightful and very close to what i foresee! -
rtherthrwyathnknwyaMy sources tell me Wyant is out of the season with health issues.
Reading this makes me realize that soooo many weight classes are up in the air.
Thanks for the rankings Red. -
1_beastI did notice Wyant did NOT wrestling in the Tri wednesday night, Orrville's Senior night, however he was recognized! Too bad, he's exciting to watch.
-
zoocrewWyant broke his hand, not sure on his return. He is one big 215 pounder.
-
Red RumAny status on:
Wyant (Orr)
Vogelhuber (Dal)
Grier (Nor)
Hope all are healthy for the tournament run. -
1_beastGrier wrestled last night picked up 2 wins at 125, Bucksman? Borofan? and Brakemen seem suggestive that Grier is a better fit at 130, but inside sources say hes confident at 125. Brakeman has Grier #6 in the State at 130 and Moore/Studer at 14, looking at rankings, Norwayne has solid shot at getting a kid out at both weights.
-
mt1514Sorry if this has alredy been answered. Burge got expelled, never did wrestle this year.
-
Clever GuyYeah I did hear Grier returned and was at 25...
Don't count Wyant out. I understand he removed his own hard cast?? Doing so makes me think he was supposed to keep it on till after sectionals, and simply wants to go broken hand or not. sheesh! Vogelhuber, as I understood, was diagnosed as done for the season originally. That's rough on a senior. If that's my senior season I'd do all I could to return, BUT, that's quite a challenge to jump back in action when it's kill or be killed. Let's keep everyone healthy through sectionals eh?? And we apparently lost Manchester. Did we gain anyone? -
Clever Guy^ We didn't lose Manchester to injury, as that may read to some. They're scheduled to Rootstown I believe...
-
Jmar25Vogelhuber will try to wrestle. Count on it. Don't know when he'll give it a shot but he will for sure. No doubt in my mind.
-
republicPowers injured? He just tf at 140 last night against Kenston, and is wrestling at the WVA Duals this weekend.

A Sectional BW-3's meeting should actually take place, however im still unclear on how rthrhjkthknwyihg guy got "stiffed" on a t-shirt, lol tell us the story
on RedRums suggestions:
103 looks like a solid prediction,I think you gotta put Hozen in front of Tschiegg, J Young is tough but light, may surprise some folks
112 I see Shelby Hall left off the list, sitting at 12-7 after 2 wins last night, took Gregan to ot in jr high county finals(should of won the match), Gregan held on for 2 periods and the Ref let him.
119 Biggest question here is if Perez stays at 119 or jumps back to 125, How could you forget Burge? another scrapper is Berry...is he staying 119 or going 125? Both weights are brutal at Districts
125 Again, this time the question is Grier? He wins this weight at sectionals, but good luck at districts. 125 at Garfield heights is solid, anyone with the weight has a better shot at 130 with Jacober and Walden possibly bumping to 135,(Grier would be top 2 @130 at Garfield Heights), this leaves 130 more open for state representation from Northwestern Sectional.
130 Fortune and Moore battle here with Wardell figuring in considerably. If Grier comes here(bumping Moore to 135) its still a dogfight. This sectional has a potential 3 kids making it out of Garfield Heights district, (again, factoring in Walden and Jacober moving to 135), dont forget Powell. This is a possibility if Steiber goes 140 and Clark comes to 135)
135 Nelson is the favorite, with Vogelhuber out(rumored broken hand? arm? will he be back in wrestling shape?) If Vogelhuber is healthy hes top of the crop with Moore(providing grier bumps) also advancing, the last spot is a dog fight between several good kids, Lucas(BR), Byler (Tri), Marthey (Tus) and factor in the always tough Studer(Nor)(If Moore dont bump) This weight also has potential for 3 qualifiers out of Garfield Heights in the right kids are at the right weights. Another note is the always tough Powers(CVCA) rumored to be injured, opening up this class at Garfield Heights a little.
140 Hersheys to lose at Sectionals, If the aforementioned Norwayne kids Bump...Studer get out here as high as 2nd, with Johnson(Dal) being solid, here is where i question Daltons schedule, this is wide open for a McCluggage (Waynedale) to sneak through. Dupont also could come through here and wouldnt surprise me a bit -
1_beastmy bad Mr Republic, just goin on a rumored injury (as stated) thank you for clearing that up. The kid is a hammer and i hated seeing him hurt last year. perhaps im just confused all together...it happens! Best of luck on your journey, kick some butt in WVa
-
Pin emThat is what I heard also beast. Hope he is 100 percent. Hate to see a senior with so much potential out.
-
republicthanks beast, CVCA has been idle since top gun, he did default at the end of the semi final with a minor strain injury. Back and ready for the stretch run, good luck with your remaining regular season, and Sectionals.
-
rtherthrwyathnknwyaBeast, I forgot to comment about the "stiff" on the t-shirt. If you recall I was to provide a T in exchange for your attendance. I provided the T, you did not attend thus "stiff."
Per Lord Brakeman the strongest weight classes are 140 and 152 with the most ranked wrestlers. Poor showing sectional wise this year in the forecast, but I know we can outperform it! -
1_beastLOL I actually was there, but was in fear of my life and personal saftey when i saw that mass of blue and grey..i quickly exited and got outta there. I did like the tye died shirt you had for me. This year, it may be a go. Just need some more GOLD folks for safety precautions!!! (Applebees? last year? Correct?)
-
Red Rumttt
-
1_beastLooks like it Tuslaws or Northwesterns to win....Bears are stripped of 2 of there wrestlers and wrestle a weak schedule.
-
1_beastguess after this weekend we'll have alot more insight
-
1_beastwell fellas?
-
mult1286Manchester is a talented team as well, but you are right I think it will come down to the 3 mentioned.
