Here is the final ranking for this sectional. I have results from several duals of importance and both the EOWL (thanks to gardens35 for the EOWL complete brackets) and PTC Tournament, so some catching up is needed. It is inevitable that the ranked wrestlers will finish different as seeding will come into play. I'll get as many up tonight as I can and finish tomorrow. The purpose of my doing these rankings is to let all know who the wrestler to watch are and to also get a little recognition to some of the young men who work very hard, but don't get the accolades that others may get. I hope this is helpful and it has been a fun year for me.
Seeding criteria is here:
http://www.baumspage.com/nesect/index.htm I will try and put an order to the seeding, but as I don't know all the wrestlers records (and many will be seeded by record), it will be an imperfect process. I am only listing wrestlers that are seedable in this process (1st paragraph).
103
1-Nemec (Crestwood) 2-Lott (Field) 3-Anderson (W Branch) 4-Oliver (Louisville) 5-Spencer (Canfield) 6-Prizant (Poland) also Barthalow (SE)
Anderson should be the #1 seed here (by virtue of his third place finish last year). If my interpretation of the seeding criteria is correct, records will be used for the remaining seeds. Nemec should be the 2 seed with a 26-7 record. Probably Spencer #3 at 24-9. After that I'm not sure. Lott is 23-11, I have no clue on Oliver's record (he is a returning DQ) and may be underestimating him. If they are the 4 and 5 seeds, they will meet in the quarters. Lott beat Oliver at Top Gun (I don't have the score). I have Prizant at 16-11.
Nemec is coming off a PTC Championship. He beat Lott 10-2 in the semifinals. After Nemec I think it will be a dogfight for the remaining 3 spots. Lott took third at the PTC event. Oliver lost a close 3-0 decision to Minerva's tough Smith in a dual and Spencer took 2nd at the EOWL Tournament (where Anderson and Prizant did not place). Barthalow took 5th at the PTC (losing 16-0 to Lott along the way).
112
1-Graham (W Branch) 2-Alger (Crestwood) 3-Frost (Canfield) 4-Kubitza (Field) 5-Gibson (SE) 6-Duran (Poland) also George (Hubbard) St John (Marlington) Malone (Salem) Ford (Alliance)
Seeding should go like this-Graham #1, Alger #2, Gibson #3 then on record. I have Frost at 22-8, Kubitza at 27-8 and Duran at 23-11.
Graham is a heavy favorite here and took 2nd at the EOWL tourney (losing 10-5 to Howland's Perry; beating Frost 4-0). He also teched Ford and pinned Malone in duals. Alger went through a blip in his season where he lost to Kubitza and Frost. I think he has righted the ship, but the battle for the remaining places will be fierce. He is coming off a 1st at the PTC (beating Gibson 1-0 in a semi). Frost had a pin over Malone in a dual, but didn't place at the EOWL tourney. Kubitza took 3rd at the PTC, beating Gibson 4-0 in the conso finals. Duran defeated George 4-1 in the EOWL tourney for 5th/6th. George beat Ford 12-11 at this tournament also. Malone pinned Ford in a dual.
119
1-Romy (Louisville) 2-Schauffhauser (W Branch) 3-Jones (Alliance) 4-Walkerow (SE) 5- Weisent (Marlington) 6-Shields (Poland) also Mayfield (Field) Dunkin (Crestwood) Kay (Canfield) Briceland (Salem) Halicki (Hubbard)
This is a very tough weight class with most of those listed having a chance to win this. I don't think I've ever ranked a weight that every school had a wrestler get my attention and get listed before (I've been doing this for quite a while). Here are the records that I have. I don't have the dual box score for Alliance/Louisville and those matches are important here. I have no records for Romy or Weisent, I have Schaffhauser at 17-9, Jones at 18-9, Walkerow at 21-15, Shields at 21-10, Mayfield at 23-12, Kay at 19-12 and Briceland at 17-14.
Here are the recent results I have. Schaffhauser has beaten Jones 3 times lately (10-3 in a dual, 4-3 and 13-6 at the EOWL). He beat Briceland 3-2 in a dual and lost to Shields 1-0 at the EOWL (where he placed 5th) also. Along with the matches already listed, Jones beat Briceland 9-3, Halicki 12-4 and placed 6th at the EOWL Weisent did lose a close 2-0 match in a dual to Canton South's Tucker.. Walkerow took 4th at the PTC tourney, where Mayfield took 5th. Among Mayfield's matches was a 4-0 win over Dunkin. The match that really stood out to me was his 2-0 loss to the very tough Gunter of Coventry. Shields took 4th at the EOWL where he beat Kay 4-2 along the way. The latter also had an 8-4 win over Briceland in a dual.
125
1- Reed (Canfield) 2-Kager (Crestwood) 3-Perry (Hubbard) 4-Shelton (W Branch) 5-Bylene (Marlington) 6-O'Brien (Louisville) also Hauter (Salem) Munger (SE)
Reed may be at 130 but I look for him here. He would be #1 there also. Seeding should be 1-Reed 2-Kager 3-Perry then on record. I have Shelton at 18-10 and #4
Reed won the EOWL at 130 last weekend, beating returning state champ Matasic (Jackson-Milton) 13-8. Kager won a PTC title for the 2nd time this weekend. Perry took 4th at the EOWL (beating Shelton 4-0 along the way). Shelton also lost a 7-5 OT dec to Northwest's Blankenship in a dual. O'Brien lost 6-3 to Minerva's DePalmo in a dual. Munger took 6th at the PTC tourney, beating Varndell 14-12 and losing by fall to Kager along the way.
130
1-Estock (W Branch) 2-Oliver (Louisville) 3-Fejedelem Crestwood) 4- Sampson (SE) 5-Rapone (Canfield) 6-Swigart (Field)
The rankings are as I see them now. Reed may be here and I have heard Benedict may drop (I have no results for him at 130, I'm not sure that he can drop now). Either Canfield wrestler if here would be ranked #1 and the first seed. If they stay as I ranked them, Oliver would be the #1 seed and the rest on record. I have Estock at 26-6, Fejedelem at at 28-15, Sampson 19-10 and Rapone 20-10.
Estock is coming off a 3rd place finish at the EOWL tourney (his loss, 8-1 to Matacic) and he beat a tough Harris from NW by fall in a dual. Both Fejedelem and Sampson made their debut's at 130 last weekend. While Sampson beat Fejedelem 11-9, I still put the Crestwood grappler at 3. Sampson was 4th and Fejedelem 5th at the PTC. Rapone was at 140 for the EOWL meet and took a very good 3rd, beating some of the ranked 140 lb'ers.
135
1-Benedict (Canfield) 2-Hupp (W Branch) 3-Ladich (Field) 4-Gonzalez/Shafer (Marlington) 5-Hillier (Crestwood) 6-Hawkins (Alliance) also Lepar (Louisville)
Benedict (if here) will be the #1 seed with Hupp #2. It should be on record after that and here is what I have. Ladich is 23-5, I don't have records for either Marlington grappler, Lepar or Hawkins. Chaney (Hubbard) may be here and would be ranked #4 but I will rank him at 140.
Benedict beat Hupp 4-1 in the EOWL finals. Ladich took 3rd at the PTC tourney. I have Gonzalez as Marlington's wrestler here but he has split time with Shaffer. Hillier placed 6th at the PTC meet. I still have Hawkins ranked here but results for him have been sporadic at best.
140
1-Fox (Field) 2-Bates (Marlington) 3-Chaney (Hubbard 4-Lodge (Salem) 5-Faulkner (W Branch) 6-Daprile (Canfield) also Lovejoy (Louisville) Larsuel (Alliance)
Seeding should be Fox #1 and Daprile second. I would not be surprised to see Daprile at 145 or Bates for that matter. Daprile would still be seeded above Bates at either weight (based on his sectional 3rd last year). Records for the remaining wrestlers are 22-12 for Chaney, 24-11 for Lodge and 22-9 for Faulkner. I don't have a record for Bates but would figure him as the three seed.
On to some recent results. Fox had a dominate PTC tournament, taking 1st. Chaney placed 2nd at the EOWL meet, beating Rapone 9-2 along the way. Lodge and Faulkner have met three times recently. Lodge won by fall in the first two, but Faulkner got some revenge with a pin in the EOWL 5th/6th place match. Daprile placed 6th at 145 in the same tournament.
145
1-Horovitz (Crestwood) 2-Pidgeon (W Branch) 3-James (SE) 4-Z Lias (Hubbard) 5-Eckhart (Field)
Horovitz will be the #1 seed here regardless of any weight changes (Bates and Daprile may be here). After him the rest of the listed wrestlers will fight it out for 2nd. I have Pidgeon at 17-11, James at 20-14 and Eckhart at 9-7 for seeding purposes.
Horovitz placed 3rd at the PTC meet (pinning James (5th place) along the way). Pidgeon lost to Daprile 13-8 at the EOWL tourney.
152
1-Porter (Crestwood) 2-Poyser (Louisville) 3- McGinnis (Field) 4-Seifke (Marlington) 5-Nadeja (Hubbard) 6-Paynter/Page (W Branch) also Audi (Poland)
Seeding will be important at this weight. Porter is #1 and Seifke #2. After that I think records will come into play. McGinnis is 30-5, Nadeja 17-5 and Audi 18-15. I have no record for Paynter (he did go on the mat for a forfeit win at 160 in a dual last week). If Page is here he is 5-5. I have no record for Poyser. He was injured before sectional last season and will be seeded on record. This will be a grueling weight from the quarter finals on. One thing I do have to compare some of these grapplers is results against Graziani (Boardman). Seifke has a 5-4 win at the Hephner, while Nadeja (8-6) and Porter (3-2) both have lost to him.
Porter is coming off a championship at the PTC Tournament. He beat McGinnis 7-1 in the finals. Nadeja took 2nd at the EOWL meet. Audi beat Page 5-4 at the EOWL also.
160
1-Lamancusa (W Branch) 2-Matarrese (Crestwood) 3-Mirto (Canfield) 4-Kaplan (Marlington) 5-Brokaw (SE) 6-DePasquale (Hubbard) also Schuster (Salem)
Matarrese will be the #1 seed with Lamancusa 2nd. The records for the rest (that I have) are 23-5 for Mirto and 15-7 for Brokaw.
Lamancusa took first at the EOWL tourney (pinning Mirto in the finals). He also pinned Schuster and DePasquale lately. Matarrese Took first at the PTC meet, where Brokaw took 5th. DePasquale placed 6th at the EOWL.
