2010-11 W Branch Sectional Rankings

  • firestonefan
Here you go. I do these annually but never on this site. If you like them Walsh sectional is next. I will update weekly from this point. Give me some feedback!!

I don't have any results for Salem, so they won't be in until i get some results and what weight's they are going. I know they have some wrestlers who will be ranked when it is all said and done.

Also I don't have results from some of the duals that would impact these rankings. Notably, the W Branch & Alliance duals with Poland and Hubbard. Don't beat me up too bad as I will change things if needed when I get some scores. Some of these wrestlers may yet drop a weight. These rankings will be updated at least a couple more times before the Sectional and changed accordingly.

As always, I don't know it all and these are just my thoughts. Some may be at a different weight and I don't have that result. Hopefully this will give everyone an idea of who to watch and how all the wrestlers have been performing. Not every wrestler is going to go to Firestone or Columbus, but I feel they deserve a mention for their hard work. Your input is valued so let me hear any differing opinions and results I may have missed.

Teams: Alliance, Canfield, Crestwood, Field, Hubbard, Louisville, Marlington, Poland, Salem, SE, W Branch

Looks like another two team race with W Branch and Crestwood. Last years team title went to the Devils by 4.5 points. They have most of that team back. I look for them to repeat, with a strong fight coming from the Warriors. Most of the other squads have some holes in their line ups but have some excellent individuals. I am really impressed with Poland. They are close to having a full line up. Great to get some new schools involved as teams. Hopefully in time, the Bulldogs will develop into a strong program.

I will start going the weights shortly and post them when I can. I should have them all up today. I am going to try one more time to find some of the missing results.

    DQ=District Qualifier

    103
    1-Anderson (W Branch) 2-Nemec (Crestwood) 3-Spencer (Canfield) 4-Oliver (Louisville) 5-Prizant (Poland) 6-Lott (Field)

Most of the names are the same as last season. This will be a hotly contested weight. Anderson is a returning DQ and has been wrestling well this season. He has finishes of 3rd at Mt Vernon and 5th at Riverside. I may be under estimating the freshman Nemec. My records have him with only two losses this season (Assad & Mancini). He has championships at Aurora and Hudson, while finishing 3rd at Kenston. And yes this is Paige's brother. Spencer and Oliver look to be next. Oliver won their meeting here in the 3rd/4th place match up last season. Prizant has a 6th at Riverside (losing by fall to Anderson) and Lott placed 2nd at Hillsdale.

    112
    1-Graham (W Branch) 2-Alger (Crestwood) 3-Gibson (SE) 4-Kubitzka (Field) 5-St John (Marlington) 6-Bradley (Louisville) 6-Ford (Alliance)

Graham is the returning champ heads the field here. The returning State Qualifier has 1st's at Mt Vernon and Riverside. He also beat Gibson 13-3 last week. Alger took 2nd last season. He has been wrestling well, taking 3rd at Aurora (119) and 2nd at Kenston. Gibson was the runner up at 103 last season. He has a 9-4 win over Kubitzka this season.

    119
1-Schauffhauser (W Branch) 2-Romy (Louisville) 3-George (Hubbard) 4-Walkerow (SE) 5-Weisent (Marlington) 6-Jones (Alliance) also Mayfield (Field) Dunkin (Crestwood)

This should be a very competitive weight. Schauffhauser placed 4th at Riverside and has a 9-5 win over Walkerow. Romy and George were both District Alternates (119 & 112 respectively). Walkerow is a tough and physical wrestler and has a fall over Mayfield. He could be ranked too low. Jones placed 2nd at Oak Harbor and Mayfield 2nd at Hillsdale (125).

    125
    1-Kager (Crestwood) 2- Shelton (W Branch) 3-O'Brien (Louisville) 4-Dunbar (Canfield) 5-Shields (Poland)

The sophomore Kager is a returning champ (119). He hasn't missed a beat this season, taking 2nd at Hudson, 4th at Kenston and 1st at Aurora (130). For the 4th weight in a row we have either a W Branch or Crestwood wrestler at the top. Shelton took 5th at Riverside.

    130
    1-Reed (Canfield) 2-Estock (W Branch) 3-Perry (Hubbard) 4-Oliver (Louisville) 5-Campbell (Crestwood) 6-Swiggart (Field)

Reed is a solid #1. He is coming off a 3rd at the tough Medina Invitational, his loss by injury default. He was a State Alternate last season and is a 3X DQ. I'm not sure about 2/3 as I need the dual result between these two (if they met). I know Estock has been behind Mellinger and is a very good wrestler. He has finishes of 2nd at Mt Vernon and 2nd at Riverside. Perry is another 3X DQ, twice at 112 and last season at 119. Oliver is a solid #4 and a two time district qualifier. He will meet Estock this week in a dual.

    135
1-Benedict (Canfield) 2-Hupp (W Branch) 3-Fejedelem (Crestwood) 4-Sampson (SE) 5-Ladich (Field) 6-Hawkins (Alliance) also Schafer (Marlington) Lepar (Louisville)

Benedict is also coming of a 3rd at Medina, losing to eventual champ Mirman (Highland) 11-9. He was a state alternate last season. He will be pushed by Hupp, who has finishes of 2nd at Mt Vernon and 3rd at Riverside. Fejedelem has had good results this season, wrestling some tough individuals. He took 3rd at Aurora and 4th at Kenston. Ladich has an injury default over Sampson in their dual (it was a close match) while Hawkins placed at 3rd at Oak Harbor and a 9-5 win over Schafer.

    140
    1-Fox (Field) 2-Chaney (Hubbard) 3-Faulkner (W Branch) 4-Hillier (Crestwood) 5-Rapone (Canfield)

Fox was a State Placer last season (7th-130). Instead of resting on his laurels, he went to Fargo and wrestled himself toa runner up finish in both styles as a Cadet. The hard work is seen as results on the mat. He has garnered championships at Hillsdale (145) and Hoover so far this season. As far as the other wrestlers, all are capable. Chaney and Faulkner have wrestled, still looking for the results. He was a DQ two years ago and placed 6th at 125 at this sectional last season. Faulkner is another newcomer in the Branch lineup having a good season. He has finished 4th at both Mt Vernon and Riverside. I have some mixed results for Hillier and Rapone. With some of the tournaments coming up in a couple of weeks (Top Gun, Dies among others) I look for another name or two to be added to this weight.

    145
    1-Horovitz (Crestwood) 2-Bates (Marlington) 3-###############on (W Branch) 4-Daprile (Canfield) 5-James (SE)

If all these wrestlers stay here this looks like a tough and balanced weight. Horovitz is a 3X DQ (still looking for his 1st sectional crown) and qualified for Columbus in 2009. Some results from this season:2nd-Aurora, 1st at Hudson and Kenston. Bates is a 2x DQ.
###############on has finishes of 3rd at Mt Vernon and 6th at Riverside. Daprile was a DQ last season at 140 (beating Bates in the 3/4 match) as was James.

    152
    1-Porter (Crestwood) 2-Poyser (Louisville) 3-Seifke (Marlington) 4-Paynter (W Branch) 5- Eckhart (Field)

The top 4 here are solid. Porter was a sectional champ and ste placer (7th-140) last season. He has finishes of 1st at Aurora, 3rd at Hudson and 2nd at Kenston. He also had an impressive win against Keifer (Chanel) in their dual. Poyser was a DQ in 2009 at 145. Last season he was injured shortly before sectionals and unable to compete. He finished 4th at Hoover. I look for this to be a great match up (if it happens). Seifke has qualified twice to Firestone while Paynter has finished 2nd at Mt Vernon and 4th at Riverside. Eckhart has a 5th place finish at Hillsdale. Nadeja (Hubbard) may be here and make it even more crowded. He is ranked at 160 for the time being.
  • firestonefan
    160
    1-Lamancusa (W Branch) 2-Matarrese (Crestwood) 3- Nadeja (Hubbard) 4-McGinnis (Field) 5-Kaplan (Marlington) 6-Mirto (Canfield) also Monroe (Alliance)

Like 152, this is another stacked weight class. Lamancusa was a state qualifier at this weight in 2009 and an alternate last season. This season he finished 2nd at Mt Vernon and 1st at Riverside. Matarrese was a state qualifier at 145 last season. He was 1st at Aurora and runner up at both Hudson and Kenston. Nadeja has been hampered with injuries the last couple of years. hopefully he will stay healthy during the stretch run in 2011. McGinnis twice has qualified for Firestone and was 1st at Hillsdale this season. Kaplan was a district alternate last year. He and McGinnis have a common opponent in Amos (Wheeling Park), McGinnis losing 1-0 and Kaplan 11-2. Mirto may be under valued here. He was a DQ last season at 152. Monroe placed 6th at Oak Harbor. I did notice in Bucksman's latest rankings he has Mirto qualifying to Columbus, while I don't have him getting out of his sectional.

    171
    1-Ryba (Crestwood) 2-Lawrence (Southeast) 3-Lias (Hubbard) 4-Kuhn (Marlington) 5-Karlen (W Branch) 6-Conway (Alliance)

Ryba looks very hard to beat this season, coming off a 5th place finish in Columbus (152) last year. I would not be surprised to see all the Crestwood wrestlers from 145 to this weight drop a class before sectionals. Ryba , this season has finished 1st at Aurora, 2nd at Hudson and 1st at Kenston. The athletic Lawrence was a DQ the last 2 seasons. He has a pin over Karlen in their dual match up. Lias is a 2x district qualifier (152 in 2010 and 135 in 2008). He will be a wrestler to watch here. Kuhn got out of this sectional 3rd last season, but the competition seems a little tougher this year. Karlen finished 2nd at Riverside. That did catch my attention. Conway took 5th at Oak Harbor.

    189
    1-Monroe (Crestwood) 2-Gray (Louisville) 3-Thomas (Marlington) 4-Flanagan (Canfield) 5-Brown (W Branch) 6-Thomas (Alliance)

Monroe battling a wrestler from Louisville! Sounds like last season. He beat the Leps Joe Henderson here but lost to him at Firestone and Columbus. regardless, he placed 8th at State and is the favorite this season. He has finished 1st at Aurora, 3rd at Hudson and 2nd at Kenston.Gray is a very gutsy wrestler and will challenge Monroe. While he has a few losses thus far, they are to very good wrestlers (twice to Wilson (Lake), Zody (Triway) in hard fought matches. He finished 6th at Hoover. Thomas may through a wrench in these predictions, as he has started the year of tough (not sure if a drop to 171 is in the cards). As a freshman last season he was a district alternate at 152. Flanagan was a DQ at this weight last season, while Thomas has a 6th place finish at Oak Harbor this year. I would not be surprised to see Whaley or Smith from Marlington come in and be # 1 at this weight.

    215
    1-Lowry (Crestwood) 2-James (W Branch) 3-Saunders (Alliance)

This weight is really up for grabs between these three. Lowery was a DQ last season and has decent results this season (1st-Aurora, 3rd Hudson and Kenston). James is a newcomer to the Warriors lineup, but has finishes of 2nd at Mt Vernon and 5th at Riverside. I may not be ranking Saunders high enough, just a gut feeling. He has a 2nd at Oak Harbor.

    285
    1-Higgins (Marlington 2- C Sharp (W Branch) 3-Watson (Alliance) 4-Goss (Crestwood) 5-Banks (Field) 6-Benson (Canfield)

Higgins is a clear favorite at this weight. What a dilemma W Branch has with two Sharps at 285. I know Logan placed higher than Conner at Riverside, bit that may have been due to bracketing (or maybe not). I will rank Conner. I know Higgins got a late start because of the Dukes football run. Sharp placed 5th at Riverside, Watson 4th at Oak Harbor. Goss was a District alternate at CVCA his freshman year. Banks was a sectional placer last season.

West Branch won both the Poland and Hubbard duels handedly.

I wrote them in my phone at the time but I cannot remember the individual matches. West Branch beats Poland 77-0. And West Branch beat hubbard 71-4.

Found this recount on OhioWrestlingSite's forum and it goes with what I remember of the WB-Hub match:
Graham pinned George, Hupp majored (and nearly tech) Chaney, but the match of the night was Lamancusa vs Nick Nadeja. Nadeja bumped up from 152. Nadeja was in on a deep shot and Lamancusa forced a scramble where he got a takedown. The next two periods both got ride-outs on top.
Cannot remember scores right now and I don't have the online Alliance Review subscription so I can't figure it out. Article is here if someone has an subscription to the paper and wants to inform us of the details: http://the-review.com/news/article/4953572

Chippewa has a link to their tournament. Hubbard will be here. http://www.chippewa-chipps.com Thanks bobofed

Looking forward to seeing some great wrestling. CVCA will be sending some of their varsity kids that have available points (I look for Powers to be here at 135, among others. Leonard Truck and Trailer (Salem) results should be on baumspage. Hopefully I can get the box scores for some of the duals from the papers. I have Salem/Girard and Marlington/Northwest now. I'll see what else is out there. I know W Branch beat Louisville bad (Louisville wins 103,119 and 215. Hopefully I get this box score. Lamancusa pins Poyser late in the third in what I hear was a great match.

    Good Luck to all wrestlers!!

Thank you very much!! Looks like some changes will be made this week. I will have these updated Monday or Tuesday.
  • I Wear Pants
If you're wondering how the score is 11 for Lsvl when they had a pin and two decisions it's because they had a team point taken away. I was at the match and wasn't paying attention so I missed them taking it away which led to me being confused as to the math.

Here are the updated Sectional rankings. There are some changes. Wrestlers are moving to their preferred weights and some results have come in that I didn't have before. I got the Jackson-Milton Tournament results about 11 last night, that's why this is late. The State rankings I will mention are Bucksman's latest D2 ranks (from 1/5). He does the most comprehensive in season rankings for the whole state. Thanks Josh.

    103
    1-Nemec (Crestwood) 2-Oliver (Louisville) 3-Anderson (W Branch) 4-Spencer (Canfield) 5-Prizant (Poland) 6-Lott (Field)

This is shaping up to be a very competitive weight. Nemec jumps up a spot to #1 here (14th statewide). He is having a great freshman year. He did hit a few bumps in the road last week, going 1-2 at the state duals (losing to state #4 Tutolo (Walsh) by fall and #15 Torti (Olentangy) 4-3 OT. Oliver moves to #2 in this ranking by virtue of his 8-4 win over Anderson in their dual. Prizant took 4th at Jackson-Milton. Nemec and Lott will get tested tonight against National Ranked #1 Tomasello (CVCA)

    112
1-Graham (W Branch) 2-Alger (Crestwood) 3-Gibson (SE) 4-George (Hubbard) 5-Kubitzka (Field) 6-Duran (Poland) also St John (Marlington) Frost (Canfield) Ford (Alliance)

Graham remains a strong #1 here (#5 statewide). Alger is solid #2. He lost by fall last week to Walsh's Stainbrook (#2 statewide), but had a 10-3 win over Gibson. George drops from 119 to enter the fray at this weight. Duran placed 1st at Jackson-Milton. The freshman Frost is now listed and is having a good season. I'm looking forward to how he does against Alger in their upcoming dual on the 20th. Kubitzka and Alger should meet up tonight.

    119

1-Romy (Louisville) 2-Schauffhauser (W Branch) 3-Walkerow (SE) 4-Weisent (Marlington) 5-Dunkin (Crestwood) 6-Jones (Alliance) also Shields (Poland) Briceland (Salem) Mayfield (Field)

The top 2 have flip flopped from last week. Romy won a close 7-5 decision over Schauffhauser. Walkerow beat Dunkin 14-6. I think the top 3 are ahead of the rest of the field. I haven't seen results from Weisent in a while and wonder if he is injured. Shields (dropping from 125) decisioned Briceland 11-4 on his way to a 3rd place finish at Jackson-Milton.

    125

    1-Kager (Crestwood) 2-Perry (Hubbard) 3-Shelton (W Branch) 4-O'Brien (Louisville) 5-Dunbar (Canfield)

Kager (state #13) went 2-1 at the Ohio Duals (his loss was at 130 to state #11 Cramer-Oak Harbor, 7-1). Perry took 3rd at Chippewa (and looked tough doing it). He is listed as a potential state qualifier by Bucksman. Shelton beat O'Brien 8-3 in their dual last week. I feel I may be overlooking Dunbar. Among his results is a 6-2 loss to McComas, Beaver Local's state #4 125. We will see! Kager should have a great match with Decatur (CVCA) tonight.

    130

    1-Reed (Canfield) 2- Estock (W Branch) 3-Oliver (Louisville) 4-Hillier/Campbell (Crestwood) 5-Pruitt (SE) 6-Swiggart (Field)

Reed (state #3) is the cream of the crop at this weight. I think Estock is getting overlooked in the statewide scene. He may open some eyes at the Dies this weekend. He pinned Oliver in their matchup last week. Hillier is a recent drop to this weight and is a tough wrestler.

    135

1-Benedict (Canfield) 2-Hupp (W Branch) 3-Fejedelem (Crestwood) 4-Chaney (Hubbard) 5-Sampson (SE) 6-Ladich (Field) also Hawkins (Alliance) Schaffer (Marlington) Lepar (Louisville)

Benedict is ranked #6th statewide and Hupp #15th. Fejedelem is not far behind (IMO). I'm interested in how he fares against CVCA's very tough Seth Powers tonight. Chaney finished 5th at Chippewa last week. Sampson has been out of SE's lineup lately.

    140
    1-Fox (Field) 2-Faulkner (W Branch) 3-Lodge (Salem) 4-Rapone (Canfield)

Not many changes here. Fox is ranked 6th statewide. Lodge enters this weight. He finished 2nd at Jackson-Milton.

    145

    1-Horovitz (Crestwood) 2-Bates (Marlington) 3-Pidgeon (W Branch) 4-Daprile (Canfield) 5-James (SE)

Horovitz (state #7 went 2-1 at the state duals (losing by fall to state #6-Novak (Walsh) and majored James 15-3 last week. Bates went 8-0 at the Dresden Tri-Valley duals (I have no individual results). He may be another wrestler being overlooked in the state scene.

    152
    1-Porter (Crestwood) 2-Poyser (Louisville) 3-Nadeja (Hubbard) 4-Seifke (Marlington) 5-Paynter (W Branch) 6- Eckhart (Field)

Every year it seems 152 and 160 at this sectional is filled with outstanding wrestlers. 2011 brings on the same. Porter was 3-0 at Graham last Sunday. Poyser jumped up to 160 to take on Lamancusa and wrestled very well. Nadeja is off everyones radar because of injuries last season and Seifke is a returning DQ. Paynter is having a great season also. The freshman Eckhart is a good wrestler, but not able to hang with the top 5.

    160

    1-Lamancusa (W Branch) 2-Matarrese (Crestwood) 3-McGinnis (Field) 4-Kaplan (Marlington) 5-Mirto (Canfield) 6-Monroe (Alliance) also DePasquale (Hubbard)

Lamancusa prevails in a close one with 152 Poyser. He is state #4 by Bucksman. Matarrese hasn't wrestled since Kenston (but will be back soon, I hear). State #6. McGinnis wrestled 152 tonight and gave Porter a great match (2-1). He will be #5 at 152 next week unless something changes (Dies, Top Gun results). Depasquale finished 6th at Chippewa.

    171

    1-Ryba (Crestwood) 2-Lawrence (Southeast) 3-Lias (Hubbard) 4-Kuhn (Marlington) 5-Karlen (W Branch) Conway (Alliance)

Ryba is ranked #5 statewide for a reason. Lias placed 5th at Chippewa (he may drop to 160). As with McGinnis at 152, I don't know if a weight drop is conducive to placing higher out of this Sectional.

    189

    1-Monroe (Crestwood) 2-Gray (Louisville) 3-Thomas (Marlington) 4-Flanagan (Canfield) 5-Brown (W Branch) 6-Thomas (Alliance)

Monroe is ranked 3rd in Ohio at 189 but had a glitch last weekend (losing to 171 #3 Cramer-Oak Harbor 11-7). He did beat Walsh's # 7 ranked Melchiorre 7-5. I think I have results that Thomas (Marlington) dropped to 171. He would be #4 if there (no results from Dresden). Gray did jump to 215 and pinned W Branch's James and is looking good so far.

    215

    1-Lowry (Crestwood) 2-Smith (Marlington) 3-James (W Branch) 4-Saunders (Alliance) 5-James (Salem)

This is a wide open weight both here and Firestone. James (Salem) placed 3rd/4th at Jackson-Milton (5 match limit prohibited a finals match).

    285

    1-Higgins (Marlington 2-Sharp (W Branch) 3-Watson (Alliance) 4-Goss (Crestwood) 5-Masters (Salem) 6-Banks (Field)

Higgins comes in ranked 7th statewide. No Problem there. I will not pick the Sharp wrestling for the Branch as they have been switching around, but I will say based on prior family performance, whomever it is will surprise someone at Firestone. Goss pinned Banks tonight.

Good Luck to all Wrestlers!! See you at Top Gun if you are there!

Thanks for the results!! Going through the weekend tournaments now and should be updated tonight.

    Cool.

Just for I Wear Pants I will do my rankings on this site 1st. I really appreciate the results I have been getting.

To start off I have to say this one of the most evenly matched sectionals I have done. You will see why when I start them. Also some of the best competition in NE Ohio is found at this sectional

    103

To start off I do these rankings to not only let everyone get a feel for who are the best wrestlers at each weight, but to give a little recognition to the ones that might not get out of this very tough sectional, but work very hard in practice every day to improve themselves as wrestlers and men!!

    1-Nemec (Crestwood) 2-Anderson (W Branch) 3-Lott (Field) 4-Oliver (Louisville) 5-Spencer (Canfield) 6-Prizant (Poland)

This is and will be be a very tough weigh from here on out. Nemec is #1 and this week beat Lott 7-1. While Anderson may have lost to Oliver last week, I have to think that is a freak result. Anderson beat Spencer 6-0 for 5th/6th at the Dies.. A concern to the local guys would be Anderson's bad 10-1 loss to Maple (Jefferson). I have faith in Mike Helm to right the ship! Lott lost the said match to Nemec, but won in a decision against Oliver at Top Gun. Maybe I should say your guess is as good as mine because that is what might be situation in 5 weeks. I have been noticing the improvements of all the Field wrestlers.

    112
1-Graham (W Branch) 2-Alger (Crestwood) 3-Gibson (SE) 4-George (Hubbard) 5-Kubitzka (Field) 6-Duran (Poland) also Frost (Canfield) St John (Marlington) Ford (Alliance)

At least I am not worried about #1 here! Graham triumphed over a tough field at the Dies majoring George 8-0 somewhere along the way. I might have to do some explaining about the 2nd guy though. Kubitzka beat Alger 8-1 this week and he did not win by fluke. I just feel Alger should remain at 2. I was at the match when Gibson beat Kubitzka. He will have to hope he improves his game if they meet again. Once again I may be overlooking someone and that may be Frost. I could see him top 4 here, but I could also see George, Gibson, Kubitskza..... get the point. Even after the upset this week I think Alger is a solid #2 and has an even chance of going to the show!!

    119
1-Romy (Louisville) 2-Schauffhauser (W Branch) 3-Jones (Alliance) 4-Weisent (Marlington) 5-Walkerow (SE) 6-Shields (Poland) also Mayfield (Field) Dunkin (Crestwood)
Kay (Canfield) Briceland (Salem) Halicki (Hubbard)

This weight is up for grabs IMO. Romy lost close to a tough Tucker from Canton S this week and has the 2 point win over Schauffhauser earlier this season. Schaufhauser beat Weisent 8-4 in their dual. I know I'm going to catch some slack from the Pirate faithful. Walkerow has potential to be #1 here. Mayfield Beat Dunkin 1-0 in their dual (only point on penalty) and Kay beat Halicki. Looks like a good weight to try and get to Firestone at (if you want to work hard). All the wrestlers listed can place at this sectional. Jones, in a losing effort, took the very tough Kostandaros (Walsh) to OT before losing to him by fall.

    125
    1- Reed (Canfield) 2- Kager (Crestwood) 3-Shelton (W Branch) 4-O'Brien (Louisville) 5-Bylene (Marlington)

Reed drops from 130 and is the top wrestler here. He pinned Shelton and took 2nd at the Dies last week, but lost to Twinsburg's Labry in the finals. Kager beat a tough Decatur from CVCA in a dual 6-1. Shelton did win 8-3 over Bylene in their matchup.

    130
    1-Estock (W Branch) 2-Perry (Hubbard) 3-Oliver (Louisville) 4-Rapone (Canfield) 5-Hillier Crestwood) 6- Pruitt (SE) also Swiggart (Field)

With Reed dropping to 125, this weight just changed drastically. While there will be changes in weight from here on, most will be for only a one reason (maybe 2). That is to reach the goal of getting out of the ridiculously tough Firestone District. The reason this has now come to be mentioned is Mitch Perry from Hubbard. He should be a DQ at 125-130 or 135. His teammate Chaney also will have to choose a weight before Sectionals. I have ranked Perry here because this is the weight he chose at Dies. Right now he would be #3 at 125.
On to what happened this week.! Estock beat Perry 7-5 at the Dies and placed 5th. Perry did win a close 3-0 match over the very tough NW wrestler, Blankenship (something to remember come Firestone time). Oliver, on the other hand, lost a couple matches to potential district foes this week. I will keep him at 3, but it is tenuous at best. Rapone comes down from from 140 and gets the 4 spot for now. Hillier pinned Swiggart in their dual.

    135
    1-Benedict (Canfield) 2-Hupp (W Branch) 3-Fejedelem (Crestwood) 4-Ladich (Field) 5-Sampson (SE) 6- Schafer (Marlington)

Benedict placed 2nd at the Dies losing to one of the states best, Mirman 9-5 in the finals. He is the best here. Hupp wrestled up at 140 in the dual vs Marlington and lost (surprising IMO) to Gonzalez 9-3. In a crazy tri Fejedelem beat CVCA's Powers 3-1 (Powers is a state placer and one of the best)) but lost to Ladich 11-9. The freshman from Field is starting to realize his potential. Shafer lost W Branch''s Faulkner 7-1

    140
    1-Fox (Field) 2-Faulkner (W Branch) 3-Lodge (Salem) 4-Chaney (Hubbard) 5-Daprile (Canfield) 6-Gonzalez (Marlington)
Fox had another productive week, jumping up to 145 and pinning Horovitz in their dual and then placing 4th at the Top Gun (losing twice to Perry's Z Dailey 1-0 and 3-0). Faulkner dropped to 135, winning 7-1 over Marlington's Shaffer. Lodge continued his successful season, taking 2nd at Howland. Chaney wrestled here at the Dies and I see he is listed at 140 for the Hephner. Daprile dropped from 145 and Gonzalez makes his debut this week with a win over Hupp (Branch's 135) 9-3.

    145
    1-Horovitz (Crestwood) 2-Bates (Marlington) 3-Pidgeon (W Branch) 4-James (SE) 5-Z Lias (Hubbard)
Horovitz went 1-1 last week, losing to Field's 140 Fox and pinning Macllellan (CVCA). Lots of close match ups with the rest of the wrestlers. Bates wins over Pidgeon 5-4. The latter had close wins over James (7-6) and Lias 3-1. Looking like this will be a hard fought weight come February.

    152
    1-Porter (Crestwood) 2-Poyser (Louisville) 3- McGinnis (Field 4- Nadeja (Hubbard) 5-Seifke (Marlington) 6-Paynter (W Branch)
This is going to be a very tough weight. Porter beat McGinnis (down from 160) 2-1 and beat CVCA Mike Meadows 6-2 in dual action.Poyser placed 6th at Top Gun. McGinnis defaulted out of the Top Gun. Nadeja was injured at the Dies (hopefully nothing serious) and didn't place.Seifke beat Paynter 9-4 in their dual. I have moved 3 thru 5 around and would be happy with any configuration. This will be a barn burner.

    160
    1-Lamancusa (W Branch) 2-Matarrese (Crestwood) 3-Kaplan (Marlington) 4-Mirto (Canfield) 5-Brokaw (SE) 6-DePasquale (Hubbard) also Monroe (Alliance)
Lamancusa took 2nd at the Dies Tournament (losing to Brecksville's Roddy in the finals) and beat Kaplan 5-0 in a dual match. Matarrese has been out since the Kenston Tournament, but should be back soon. Brokaw is now in the SE lineup.

    171
    1-Ryba (Crestwood) 2-Lawrence (Southeast) 3-Lias (Hubbard) 4-Thomas (Marlington) 5-Karlen (W Branch) 6-Smith (Canfield) also Conway (Alliance)
Ryba won by fall over Pete Meadows (CVCA). Lawrence had a good Dies Tornament (taking 4th).He beat returning State placer Kluk from Highland 7-1 along the way. Lias took 7th at the Dies, Thomas is just down from 189. He won by fall over Karlen last week. He may be under valued here. Karlen beat Smith 10-8 at the Dies.

    189
    1-Monroe (Crestwood) 2-Kuhn (Marlington) 3-Flanagan (Canfield) 4-Brown (W Branch) 5-Hettick (Field) 6-Thomas (Alliance)
Monroe was out with an injury last week. Kuhn is up from 171 and beat Brown by fall. Flanagan was injured at the Dies and did not place (losing to Brown by default). He did score a pin over the tough Haramis (Norton). Hettick won by fall over Thomas at the Top Gun.

    215
    1-Gray (Louisville) 2-Lowry (Crestwood) 3-James (W Branch) 4-Smith (Marlington) 5-Saunders (Alliance) 6-James (Salem)
Gray is just up from 189. This will be a highly contested weight with any of the top4 able to win on a hot weekend.Lowry lost by fall to Matt Meadows (CVCA). James (W Branch) beat Smith 3-2 in OT in their dual and placed 7th at the Dies.

    285
    1-Higgins (Marlington 2-Sharp (W Branch) 3-Goss (Crestwood) 4-Banks (Field) 5-Masters (Salem)
Higgins beat Conner Sharp 2-0 in their match. Logan Sharp took 7th at the Dies. Goss pinned Banks in their dual.

Firestonefan, will you be doing the other Sectionals for the NE Dist?
  • I Wear Pants
    Yay for priority access! :)

After this one tonight, I will have Walsh up by week end and start on Hoover. Lake Catholic has always been last ( maybe a few $$ would move them up lol). My rankings is a time consuming process to know who the best in the area are. I will for sure have a PTC preview also and a Firestone Prediction Contest!!
No bad digs to Bucksman and the other State Rankers, but I really have to look at local results and not just who finishes higher in the big tournaments. I spend a couple hours a day just getting those results. I do have a big jb starting next Saturday so if you don't see your sectional up by then I doubt if you will. Work does come 1st.

    Good luck to all wrestlers!!

You can PM with with questions, don't do it when I'm putting my rankings down. I do these individually and a lot of thought goes into them. Hell I change 4 or 5 times before I'm done.

    130

    Firestone Fan.....

How about a preview of Mogadore Field? They will be travelling to Gahanna for a 6-team round robin dual on Saturday. I know about Mr. Fox. Who else should I watch for?
  • firestonefan
If McGinnis is healthy at 152 watch for him. Look at the new rankings or the old ones. You can pretty much see what they have done all season.

I am an alumnus of Field and have to say they do have a young and upcoming program. Look out for the 285!! I have also moved Fields 103 112 and 135 up in the rankings. To watch them in action go to www.nwntv.com and see how they performed against Crestwood.

How is that Dad4Sports? A video preview.

Firestonefan , Glad to see you more on this Forum than that trashy "other" site! Thanks for the time you put in! The porno and trashy owner who encourages train wrecks and name calling at the other site has killed its self. People want to be able to talk wrestling with out the trash and personal attacks! Look forward to you posting more on here and other sites. Keep up the good work!
  • firestonefan
I am about done with the "other site"!! Check out my new picture. I will be bringing him over to wrestle with Doc!! Thanks for doing the interview Dean, nothing like two wrestling guys talking mat stuff! If they only know how much you and I put into the sport, we would not be getting so much crap. I will be around!

    Good Luck to all wrestlers!!

We forgive you this one time. But seriously you have nothing to apologize for. We all get a kick out of these rankings and you put a lot of time and thought into them. Occasionally you might have to eat or do something else.

Thinks could get interesting around 125-135 depending on who moves up or down.
