Respect him for doing it. He looks like his brain is about to explode on the sidelines sometimes.

Wow.

Why is this a wow?

I’m not surprised at all. It sucks. But it’s not a shock.

That sucks. Urban is the man, gonna miss him on the sidelines.

It is a shock when he explicitly came out 1-2 weeks ago and said he would be the coach next season.

Thank you, Coach Meyer, and best of luck moving forward... 82-9 in seven seasons at Ohio State, with a 7-0 record against Michigan, three Big Ten titles and a National Championship...'nuff said...GO BUCKS!!!

I thought he’d stay one more year, otherwise not a wow. I think it’s actually good timing to let a new coach start a new system with a new starting qb. Not sure why they didn’t interview anyone else though. Wonder How this will effect recruiting

Next season schedule is fairy soft, so not bad timing to throw a new HC into the mix:

No Power 5 opponents in the non-conference - all at home.  MSU/Wisky/PSU at home as well.

I'm sure this has all been addressed before this was announced--I mean, after all, this IS The Ohio State University. IMO, this is why Ryan Day was the interim coach and not Wilson or Schiano (thank God), and this is also why he accompanied Coach Meyer on his recent recruiting trips.

Ryan Day has a big time opportunity. He seems equal to the task.

Anyone surprised that Luke Fickell didn’t get the nod?

Not at all.

The fact that they didn’t even hire anyone else tells you how much they think of ryan day as a coach. And that should excite everyone.

Also, fuck espn. “Will he be remembered for his coaching success, or his scandal keeping a woman beater around too long?”

fuck off espn. Not even15 min after he retires and you’re already playing to the SJW crowd. That’s why that station sucks.

They're a fricking joke, along with Fox Sports--they lead in with "Urban Meyer, who was suspended three games to start the season..."--I mean, what the fuck!!! How about "Urban Meyer, three time B1G champion and 2014 NC winner..."...screw them all.

I knew it was coming. Thanks for the ride Urb.

Let's hope Day can keep the recruiting at the same level.

Sucks but man it seemed obvious. Seemed like 4 out of 5 times the camera scanned to Urban that he was hunched over helping manage his pain/discomfort.

We’re a pretty spoiled fan base. Hope Day tears it up.

Listening to cris Carter, sounds like he was told by everyone to quit a month ago. Urban wanted to finish the season so he wouldn’t quit on the players. Sounds like a lot of people thought he would die on the field if he kept going out there.

Hope he gets right and can live a happy life.

It was serious.  I wasn't suggesting that I thought he deserved it.  I think Ryan Day seems like a great choice and he's already in place.  I was just interested to see if anyone thought Fickell was even in the consideration set.  I know his one year at the help produced a mediocre record.  But I don't think that was a fair test.  All sorts of stuff was happening then that created a lot of chaos.  His time at Cincinnati shows that he obviously knows how to coach.

Again, I am not suggesting Fickell should have been the next coach.  I'm just looking for message board discussion.  Ryan Day is a great choice as far as I'm concerned.

Although it is kind of surprising that Zach Smith didn't get a closer look. ;-)

None of which is a surprise to me. He constantly looked to be in discomfort and in that one game, he even briefly collapsed. The way something looks isn't necessarily the way it is, but if you just go from the eye test watching games, hell, I might not have thought he'd die out there, but I could definitely imagine him getting carted off the field during a game.

He and his accomplishments will be missed. One fuck of a lot of winning during his tenure and you knew coming into every season (with the exception of the first, where they were ineligible for the postseason) they'd be a contender for a title. It's easy to get spoiled with that sort of success and be pissed because they didn't make the final four one year or lost in the playoffs another, but when you can say the team is a perennial contender, that's all you can realistically ask for. He had a great run; now it's time to rest up and get back to a position where it consistently looks like he's actually enjoying being alive.

While I don't think Fickell should be hired, I think he gets somewhat of a raw deal from fans. Yes, the team he coached for that year had talent, and no, that team wasn't going to win under those circumstances with just about any coach. He took one for the team, and should receive credit for doing so IMO. All that said, Day is the right choice.

As a fan...I appreciate the hell out of that. He’s a good dude...hell Stephen A just spoke good words of him and how he and Sagan just above everyone else for a long time and his career 90% winning and 3 championships
