Figured I'd start a new season thread with the opener just a few days away and I'll leave this little nugget right here...

On Wednesdays, local Cleveland sports talk (92.3) has a segment called "Around the AFC North" where they speak to beat writers from Baltimore, Cincy & Pittsburgh. It's pretty obvious these beat writers have no respect for the Brown roster as all three picked them dead last in the division. If this happens, even with the Watson fiasco, I could see old Jimmy cleaning house AGAIN.

If the Browns finish last they should clean house

It will be interesting.

People seem to think while Brissett's in that all they have to do is line up and run the ball down other teams throats. Doesn't work that way.

Brissett has been known to be risk averse which is good in limiting turnovers but also tips your hand that you're not going to try to take the top off a defense. Funny part is that he has the arm to do it.

Teams are going to bank on this and try to shut down that run. Stefanski is a semi genius (book smart) but I'm not sure he can scheme them up to overcome this. He did it when he was a rookie (COVID year) but teams are on to his coaching style.

If the defense doesn't play lockdown, they're in trouble because, like your Steelers, I don't see the Browns scoring a lot until Watson returns. In fact, I made a prediction that the rookie kicker (York) will account for about 60% of their points until Watson gets back.

They are going to have to win REAL ugly.

Even when Watson gets back.... he'll be gone from football for going on 2 years... how effective can we expect him to be?

Yeah, he was pretty rusty/nervous in that preseason game. Seems like a lot of people just assume they will go 5-1 or 4-2 upon his return. I've pretty much chalked this up to a lost year/season. If they make the playoffs it will be a shocking surprise.

Yeah this season is pretty much toast. I'm just glad he gets to play the end of it to get back in sync.

Right. The word I heard was that it should have been a full season but the owners pushed for less than a season to screw the Browns after the contract they gave him. Owners supposedly wanted this to count as the full year of his first contract year.

Thats what Watson wanted. So he loses $1M for this season contract.

Have no faith in Brissett.

Going with the Panthers to keep the Browns opener loss streak intact, 16-13, in a slopfest.

I hope Myles breaks Baker, but I expect pain.

Brissett missed 3 wide open receivers so far. Defense looks good. Punter is good. Make our drafted kicker take a kick. Not a great start. Oh, and don’t let Felton catch another punt.

Chung looking good. Panthers score after a missed coverage, but defense still looking good.

Defense looking great and Brissett doing a passable job.  Baker looking very flustered as well.  Crowd seems about 50/50 Browns which is nice.

Have a few different buddies there. Saw pictures pregame of 2 different giant Browns tailgates. I wanted to go but the 8 hour round trip was not worth it.

Wow, what an unncessarily dramatic game, but awesome to see the rookie kicker put to test immediately.

Thoughts after the game were that this defense looks like it could be lights out by the time they get to the Chargers game. They have 3 more games, against some mediocre offenses, to build their confidence. Couple of boneheaded gaffes allowed this to be MUCH closer than it should be.

With upcoming games, it's feasible that Garrett could be at 9-10 sacks by the Chargers game and it's not looking like he's going to have competition from TJ Watt this year (tough break).

Brissett is still "meh." DPJ stepped up a bit and Schwartz shockingly caught a ball thrown to him. Would've liked to have seen more Bryant/Njoku (TE's) get involved.

Chubb is still a beast. Hunt compliments him well and FINALLY Stefanski did what I've been wanting for two years, both of them in the backfield at the same time. I'm not sure they are going to be able to do this to every team (rush for 200+ yards) but it would be nice.

Tip of the cap to James Hudson & Ethan Pocic who did admirably on the O-Line.

Today was a snapshot of why they moved on from Mayfield. Outside of two long plays he was horrible. Still poor footwork, getting passes down and wild high with his passes.

Nothing more needs to be said about Cade York. #stud

Bonus ad: Jim Donovan's the effin' man. If you haven't heard his call on York's game winner, it's Tom Hamilton-esque.

Good to FINALLY be 1-0 going into the home opener with the Joe Flacco-led Jets.

Browns rookie kicker taking the Bengals rookie kicker’s stuff from last year? Browns steal the Bengals’ karma as well?

Good win

It's funny you mention this, York was actually higher rated than McPherson when they were in college.

I may take a TON of heat from the Bengals fans but I thought they were more lucky than good last year. Tannehill shits his pants in the playoffs and the Chiefs decide to quit at halftime 2x's in the same season against them. McPherson was their savior.

They are a very good team but my prediction before the season that their O-Line "fix" was more like plugging the dike with your pinky because those interior guys they picked up are average.

I’ll paste the call here. Defense was good minus complete meltdowns which should be better. Brisset missed a ton of guys, good news is receivers were getting open. Wouldn’t have been so close with a real qb. On to the Jets.
